America, 50 sovereign states that gave up enumerated powers and nothing more to join a confederation of states.

Article 1, Section 10 of our federal Constitution precludes that form of States' Rights, without an amendment.

I consider myself a federalist and am in favor of the federal doctrine and States' Rights.

no it doesnt. it precludes exactly the enumerated things it precludes.

so what about the other state constitutions? you might have a case for the ones that say that.

I was relying on the anecdotal evidence of our Civil War; no single State was willing to leave the Union, without some sort of Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation with the other States that formed the Confederate States of America.

Why would any single State want a divorce from the Union? How would that public act improve the standard of living of the citizenry of that State, in its severalty?

Some States of the Union merely enumerate that form of true witness bearing to our federal Constitution; perhaps, due to some form of morals.

well once they've left the union the constitution no longer applies and they are free to do all of that.

    that's somewhat beside the point.

    hmm.

American Constitution, an outdated piece of paper with no validity in modern times, as is repeatedly evidenced by the actions taken by the state and federal govts.

What if the general government of the Union is prepared to exercise its sovereign authority over such matters?

    i second this motion;

our Founding Fathers may have invented object orientation for political purposes, before the Information Age defined the term.

i only agree to the point that moral values can be very subjective.

in my opinion, the general government of the Union should have been required to implement a form of eminent domain regarding that form of public policy decision; by simply being moral enough to bear true witness to our own supreme law of the land and federal Constitution.

we wasted a lot of time and energy by being immoral enough to bear false witness to our own supreme law of the land and federal Constitution; especially, Because it was Ordained and Established by our Founding Fathers.

Please provide any evidence that when compulsory government education was being pushed (to give you some dates, 1852 saw the first compulsory government education laws and the establishment of government run public schools in Massachusetts) that one of the main reasons given for it was that people were not taking responsibility for the education of their children and/or that many could not afford education for their children. You won't find any such evidence and the fact is that you are completely wrong about the reasons why we have government education or many government programs.

Your faith in government is as irrational and as fervent as the faith any evangelical has in the angry father figure in the sky.

It could coincide with something like what you mention: "well I guess that would be immoral, and you might get a big war out of it."

Some are, some are not. States rights is outdated, who can and who cannot vote is foolish, and stupid. Anything which needed an amendment to correct is outdated. Anything which the wording causes endless ranting and raving about what is constitutional and what is not, is outdated. In other words, about 90 percent of the Constitution can be tossed out. So basically we need to sit down and formulate a new Modern Constitution which takes the few remaining relevent things from the old and creates a bold new and improved guide for our American Government.

Moral values are always subjective--always, not "can be".

Sorry, but the constitution and the law of the land is so confusing that not even lawyers or professors who spend their entire lives studying it can reach a consensus as to its meaning. Time to toss it out and create a more modern and more understandable one.

Why would I care why a law was created? Education in modern society is NECESSARY, not just nice. It is dependent on the government to guarantee that its citizens can and do receive a decent education, not a religiously or fruitcake biased one. There fore it is NECESSARY to force the greedy and responsibility to step forward and do their duty to the nation. Freedom which the right wing of American politics rants about, is NOT FREE. Freedom comes with responsibilities to the Nation and to ALL of its citizens. If you do NOT step up to that responsibility then it is the job, nay the mandatory requirement of the Federal Government to force you to do your part, be it taxes, or the military draft, or anything else, deemed necessary for the continued existence of the AMERICAN SOCIETY.
By the way, my faith in the govt is nonexistent, but unlike you, I KNOW that government is a necessity. Ours is the best thing around, even with all its problems. (most of which are caused by our idiotic laws that allow idiots to vote)

I have faith that idiotic American Voters will elect idiots to office and the idiots in office will do mostly idiotic things, but, now and again, they get something right, or at least, they do something I approve of, no matter if it is right or wrong to you.
