President Trump Says A COVID-19 Vaccine Will Be Available In ‘Record’ Time

President Trump announced that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Fujifilm Holdings Corp. a $265 million contract to expand the country’s vaccine manufacturing capacity.

The president made the remarks Monday during a coronavirus briefing at Fujifilm’s Bioprocess Innovation Center in Morrisville, North Carolina. He had been touring the site with HHS Secretary Alex Azar. The duo believes securing more manufacturing capacity will help get a vaccine to Americans “without a day wasted.”

“Under Operation Warp Speed, we’ve shaved years off of the time it takes to develop a vaccine,” said President Trump. “We’ve done it while maintaining the FDA gold standard for safety.”

This is good news! The President is doing a great job in providing leadership regarding getting, masks, PPE’s, respirators, treatment drugs, and vaccine research. I hope we have a vaccine very soon.

 

It is absolutely good news that a vaccine seems like it will be available in record time. Honest question, though, what did Trump do that contributed to the vaccine? In other words, can someone draw a direct line from something he did (not just something he said at a press conference or rally) to a reduction in the time required for vaccine development and/or distribution?

 

Good news, but Trump has said a lot of crap that turned out to be overly optimistic or just plain lies so I’ll believe when I see it. And with how politic it’s become, if Democrats tell people to get the vaccine, Republicans will call it a plot and refuse to get it.

There's already a groundswell of conspiracy-minded folks who say they won't get the vaccine. Fauci and others have expressed concern over such, worrying that it could prevent the herd immunity that we need. Even a significant number of Trump supporters on this board have said they won't get it, for one reason or another. It's freaking bonkers.

 

Well, I probably won't get it myself until they test it on an unwilling human to see if it survives... I'm thinking Trump Junior...

One vaccine, Moderna, has already been tested on primates and was proven successful. large scale human trials are next. First human test subjects are already underway.

There are two in stage III trials and Trump is responsible for creating the warp speed program and using defense appropriation act to push the process faster.

 

Lets hope we have success and close another chapter in history.

Really? You don’t think that they set this up and created the framework for all this back in March and April when they were securing masks, PPE’s, ventilators, etc and doing the 15 and 30 days to slow the spread? The program was publicly announced two and a half months ago on May 15

 

Fingers crossed. The first SARS was almost 20 years ago, and they never came up with a vaccine in all that time. I remain hopeful that when there is a will, we will find a way.

I'm not going to be willing to be a test case, but I don't line up at midnight for the latest gadget, either.

IOW, I hope the shortcuts were more about red-tape, and not the necessary testing and trials, that normally take years. I don't care which animal the politician prays to, I don't trust any of them when they say, "trust me, I'm from the government and I'm here to help." That's the fastest way to know it will probably be bad for the people.
