"Government by putsch." What is the government of Crimea now? If Russia invades Ukraine, what would you call a government imposed by an army? What about Russia's attempt to bankrupt Ukraine by raising the the price of their gas 20 times? Is this democracy in action, or am I "misinterpreting"?

I wouldn't expect anyone today to accept war and death and vast expense to honor a moral obligation. If North Korea invaded the South; if China invaded Japan; if Russia invaded Europe, I would be very surprised if the US or anyone else offered more than token support. Our allies sent small token forces to aid us in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the allies suffered casualties, but these were still no more than symbolic gestures. I don't expect anyone to come to the aid of Jews because there's nothing in it for them except moral distinction, but politics doesn't work that way.

Sending ammunition and supplies is a low-cost way to help, but casualties are hard to sell to the people at home. That's why Israel needs to be as strong as possible, because no one will help it any more than they'll help the Arabs.

The nationalists I know were doing some crazy things in Kiev. I did read that the Jews had formed a group for protection and they were being taught first aid, etc. I also read that the reason it was being kept hush, hush, and nothing was being said about it is that they were being trained by ex Israeli soldiers on how to get rid of Yanukovich and told the Jews not to worry and that the U.S. had them under control. Yeah right, the way the U.S. has the terrorists under control in Syria. It's probably true though about the Israeli soldiers, since some of the wounded are rushed off to hospitals in Israel.

The Jews though are not the only ones worried about the Nazis in Kiev, I know that in Crimea the Russians and even the Greeks wanted Russian passports for protection, and this is why Crimea declared its independence. This is also why there was a fight in the Ukrainian parliament...since they were blaming the nationalists and their language law for losing Crimea. It's also the reason they're having so many problems in the Russian speaking sections in the East and South.

 

Meanwhile the Russian seperatists in eastern Ukraine are acting like Nazis, clamping down on Freedom of Press, Freedom of Speech, and kidnapping elected mayors.

This is the future that Putin brings to Ukraine.

Regarding protection. Some of them protected themselves during serious unrest but the person interviewed said this was the norm now and they no longer felt the need to do it.

Again regarding this borg 'the jews' in Western Ukraine, as I understand there are different viewpoints which seems to be more based on age. The old ones are more scared and keeping themselves to themselves while the young ones are just getting on and have been while they have been involved in the protests and change of government just like other citizens and loving it from some accounts I have heard.
