You aren't the first to call faith science but it still avoids the question, "Why are you here?" After 31 thousand plus posts you must have some sort of clue. Your broken record fantasy comments about a commitment to science are so obviously silly I just don't see why you don't give us some clue why you hang around this board pretending you are something you are not. I post sometimes on the philosophy and religion forum - do you have any posts there? It would seem to be your natural venue.

Yet you cannot dispute anything I have posted other than implying I am an heretic to your true belief.

Suit yourself. Make it up. If you don't want to share the basis for your faith based beliefs that's fine. Just out of curiosity are you a fan of Rush Limbaugh or anyone similar? That might explain a lot.

It'll be fun dropping in from time to time watching you try and spin yourself into a scientist. Hey, it takes all kinds.

You obviously mistake alarmism and political consensus for science.

Hang on - did I not see on here multiple posts decrying scientific observations from bodies such as BOM, NOAA, NASA on the basis of "Wot sum bloke on da internetz sed"

Of course for you it is partisan and political. For us it is about the science.

Hoosier, do you agree with the State of Florida's Stalinist policy to make it illegal for state employees to say "global warming"?

    http://fcir.org/2015/03/08/in-florida-officials-ban-term-climate-change/

Do you agree with their eerily Soviet tactic of declaring those who dissent from TheParty's proclamations are mentally ill?

    http://www.saintpetersblog.com/archives/185247

Now, we already know you want climate scientists jailed for disagreeing with your political party. I was just curious if there was even a single Stalinist policy of any sort that you didn't endorse.

Sustainability: Higher Education’s New Fundamentalism shows that the sustainability movement distorts college curricula and cuts off free inquiry on important questions. The 260-page report also shows that, at a time when tuition and student debt are soaring, colleges are spending lavishly on sustainability programs.

The study shows how the sustainability movement has shut down reasoned debate on campuses by foreclosing open inquiry about climate change. (The report takes no position on global warming itself.) The report criticizes the 685 institutions that have signed the American College and University President’s Climate Commitment for demanding of students and faculty members “blind obedience” in the place of critical examination of the facts.

This reply does not address Mammoth's question - it is a deflection into a different topic

The climate religion is God’s gift. (God spoke to NOAA, right?)

Hail the Episcopal Bishop who “knows” which experts are right in this science debate. She hath declared that certified climate scientists paid by government grants speak the word of God. Other scientists (like 48% of Meteorologists, and two thirds of Geo’s and Engineers, plus practically everyone retired from NASA) are immoral, blind, threatening the poor, and wrong.

The Guardian: Climate denial is immoral, says head of US Episcopal church

It' is fascinating, the way the groupthink nature of the deniers drives them to such open immorality.

If I were talking to a denier one-on-one in private conversation, I have no doubts I could get them to admit that their side's Stalinist behavior there is bad.

However, they're in public now, in front of their fellow cultists. The peer pressure on them is immense. Their whole cult absolutely demands of every cultist that none of them should ever admit the cult is less than perfect in any way. If a cultist disobeys, they're cast out of the cult.

If they could resist such mental manipulation, they wouldn't be deniers. Hence, deniers always fold under the peer pressure and proudly go along with their cult's Stalinism. Deniers simply don't have the guts to disagree with their cult, no matter how badly their cult acts.

    Great OP!

I think this: "Science as an enterprise usually doesn’t need political enforcers. (For whatever reason, Aristotle left that part out in his foundational work a couple of millennia ago.) But proponents of a climate alarmism demanding immediate action to avert worldwide catastrophe won’t and can’t simply let the science speak for itself."

    Pretty much says it all.

excellent article on this over at Curry's site

    http://judithcurry.com/2015/03/26/christopher-essex-on-suppressing-scientific-inquiry/#more-18220

This entire assault could not be more anti-scientific. The protagonists are political interlopers in science who do not understand or respect the nature of scientific truths and how they are discovered, let alone how they are justified. One of the greatest lessons from the history of science is that humans don’t only get things wrong, but they stubbornly hang on to the stupidest of ideas to the bitter end. I do not absolve myself from this; it is my legacy as much as yours.

What the dogmatists understand well is eristic argument, after Eris the Greek goddess of discord and chaos. Eristic tactics come to us from the ancient Greek sophists. As the goddess’s qualities suggest, they are inherently divisive. The objective is victory, not truth. This is foreign to the training and personalities of most scientists. I, like other scientists, go into debates with a collegial attitude, tolerant of contrary thinking, no matter how wrong it may seem. Freely doubt the ideas; respect the people. When confronted with eristic tactics though, which are often absurd, aggressive, and deeply irrational, we are left gobsmacked. Like any other humans, scientists can speak the language of political nonsense, but they speak it badly. Their famous political naivety makes them easy prey for any political operative. And so we lose against eristic tactics, even when we know they are coming.

Yeah, I started reading that and then saw that the leftwing wacko was from California -- well naturally, eh? -- and then shrugged it off. Perhaps she intends to run for Nancy Pelosi's job once the Queen of Plastic Surgery finally retires. Get those insane leftwing rants in on the political ground floor to establish one's ideological street creds now and avoid the rush.

Still not a single denier who will denounce their cult's Stalinist tactics.

Instead, they evade, tapdance, duck, dodge, and weasel. Then they pile on the nutty conspiracy theories, most of which are deniers projecting their own deviant freedom-stomping lifestyle on to honest people.

At least deniers understand that they're acting shamefully, why they try so hard to deflect away from it. So maybe there's still hope for them. We just have to pry them away from the corrupting influence of their cult.

Remember deniers, people laughing at you does not make you a victim. People pointing our your corruption and dishonesty does not make you a victim. You can keep claiming otherwise, but that just confirms your immorality.

Then why has there been a 20 year history of attempts to discredit climate scientists, I think it is amazing how many of the most virulent and nasty character assassins are now claiming to be victims

Skepticism is not 'attempts to discredit'...it's SCIENCE.
