Why? People have speculated for two decades that Charles would refuse the throne. I just lol’d.

I think you have not grasped what the UK monarchy is for.
When elected politicians go places and smile and wave, they represent the portion of their country that elected them. When the monarchy goes out, it is the SAME PERSON every time who represents the WHOLE COUNTRY including its divisions. And the monarchy represents not just the past and présent, but a sense of the permanence and continuity of àn IDEA of a nation.
And this Queen one was one of the best representatives of what the UK used to hold as its identity...dignity, tolérance, honesty, générosité and public service.
Unfortunately whether that is still true is up for judgement. The world has become far more corrupt, more facile, more selfish and narcissistic in the last 75 years. And that is regrettable.

She repealed Theresa May's stupid fracking and oil drilling ban so that was a good start. Now, if she triggers article 16 to get the EU out of Northern Ireland than that would be another good thing. You are just mad because Liz Truss supports Ukraine against the barbaric Russian invaders.

The lifting of the fracking ban is contingent on the agreement of the landowner and community.
    Dont hold your breath.

Wonder what her actual cause of death was. Something I read earlier this year made me think that she possibly had cancer.

Anyway, guess we will find out eventually. I am not thrilled with her three successors I could all see coronations for in my lifetime, but it it is what it is. I wouldn't be surprised if the monarchy gets abolished while William is on the throne. Rumor is he has a hard time keeping his little willie at home and in check.

    You have the wrong Royal.
There is no such rumour about William.
Especially with à wife like Kate.

Perhaps you should google "Rose Hanbury" when you have the time.

The monarchy is a backstop to governance. The US has its “separation of powers” but in many ways that is built into the British monarchy. But most importantly it allows for the “pomp and ceremony” of government to be split off from the job of governing itself. This unloads that ceremonial and public role off of the prime minister so less reverence is placed into that position.

Australia suspended parliament at the news - flags will be flying half mast as we all grieve for the loss of not just a great lady and a life well lived but our head of state

Ppl don't go to London to see the queen. Tourism would still happen without those freeloaders. It's a disgrace, they serve zero purpose for the working class and the working class are the real heartbeat.

Besides, who in their right mind would visit London on holiday, it's a concrete jungle, horrible place. Tourism? Smh. London deserves no tourism.

Hopefully now, reparations will be paid to the Caribbean islands for the slavery that the royal family endorsed. For the last 50 years the notion of reparations was rejected and shunned by the royal family, the selfishness and prideful nature could not bring itself to atone for the horrors they inflicted on the ppl of the Caribbean islands.

yeah.. then millions of white kids can get their lunch money back.. wouldn't that be fair? And it wasn't all that long ago, so the actual perpetrators could pay up.

There doesn't seem to be a mention of this. Seems like a current event to me; the British Monarch for almost all of my life is dead and not Prince Charles is ... King Charles.

Well, we can rule out Covid as she beat Covid but that probably won't stop the coroner paid for by drug companies to say Covid killed the queen.

In the age of democracies, Queen Elizabeth managed to demonstrate the requirements of self-discipline and most of all duty in showing how good a good monarch could be. She was a good queen, but sadly for the monarchy, not a great mother. She will be the high point of the British monarchy of the 21st Century, and her children and grandchildren are very much lessor beings who demonstrate little of the sense of self sacrifice and duty required for such a role and will be lessor rulers, at least until the monarchy is dismissed.

It’s all on line over here! Yes, we have brick and mortar banks, but loans are done on line.

I felt that way, but listening to today's news that included some of his past causes and what he's said, I'm not sure I feel that way anymore. He's always been an apparent "milk-toast" but, what I hear was a good harted man that I now think will be a good Monarch; which, to an American, is a repugnant concept. But, if you gotta have one I think Britain could do worse.

    Better them than U.S.
