    The queen, for decades, ruled over an oppressive colonial empire. Listening to the BBC's endless stream of platitudes makes me wonder if now is or is not the right time to discuss the true legacy of colonialism, never mind the rumours about her not allowing black ppl to work in the palace during almost her entire reign, only broken by Meghan markle and we can see how the family reacted to that, by shunning Harry.

    This Queen did not "rule over" a colonial empireshe was Queen when it was dismantled.

    Look. Please get your history right. You haven't posted one vérifiable objection to thr monarchy.. Not one.

    The system entails people who are born rich on tax payer dollars. Then, they are raised to act like they are above all others who have handlers (paid with tax dollars) for every single thing they do. They do get to go shake hands with foreign dignitaries and repeat what their political handlers tell them to say. Other than that, I don't see a single actual use for them. She seems like a nice lady if I met her, but she really had no use that any elected official could have done just as good or better.

    Well, be that as it may, it is for each person to decide whom he likes and whom should govern him, not that the queen ever obligated anyone to do anything.

    Those dumb workers, right?

    The Left has a confoundingly low opinion of working people. Two things I hear over and over from the Left:

    "The workers don't vote in accordance with their own best interests!"

    And

    "The workers are brainwashed!"

    Pretty insulting and disrespectful.

    I have never begrudged the £1.29 a year it costs me for my share of the cost of the Royal Family.
    Remarkable value for money considering what they do for me.
    Charles has been attending between five and six hundred royal engagements a year for at least the last 20 years.
    As a whole the Royal Family attend over 2,000 engagements a year.
    The Queen herself carried out over 21,000 in the course of her reign.
