You're using a very simple metric for success that looks at a very small time period in history. China's gross domestic product, as compared to the size of their population, is not very impressive from a per person standpoint. The Japanese have long been the exception that proves the rule. The subject here though is "white privilege" and you seem to be trying your best to make it about race; there's a difference.

White privilege could ask what white people in general have done right to get their "privilege" some 150 years after slavery ended. It doesn't do this, though. It's a game for the most entitled white people and an excuse used by non-white people who are probably doing almost everything wrong if they need to bring it up.

For example: what policies would you support to combat white privilege? A majority of the population is against affirmative action, including a majority of young people. American schools get nearly 3x as much money per student as the next closest competitor. Maybe you support slavery reparations, which have been brought up again recently, but what good would that do in the long run? You probably have no realistic policies in mind and that's because "white privilege" is not something that can be fought against, it is just a manifestation of jealousy against individuals and families who have lived their lives the right way.

Perhaps the world would have been more advanced now if the Muslims had conquered Europe. Spain was a jewel when they ruled, until the Western hordes came in and started killing Jews and Muslims left and right. Again.

Right. Because that's what Islam encourages is education.(sarcasm) Hell, half their population (women) they keep uneducated and illiterate, so they cut their base of academic contributors in half right there. Don't defend their wickedness.

Certianly. Educate yourself on all the achievements of the Islam world, achievements and inventions that the West benefited much from.

Where are the stats to back this crap up? In fact, there are more women in universities than men in the Middle East.

You should be worried about all those American girls that get pregnant in high school and can't continue their education.

    Um...so were you. So what?

You were attempting to claim race is the primary metric. I provided evidence showing it is clearly not.

So what? What does that have to do with anything? That sounds like an excuse.

The end result is that China is more powerful. And therefore more successful.

LOL...what does "white" mean in this context if not race?

European whites have nothing to do with slavery. Are you talking about American whites specifically? Because a lot of American whites immigrated here after slavery was already over, so they would have nothing to do with it either.

So maybe you just need to be more specific as to what it is you are referencing. Clearly white Americans do not represent all whites everywhere, and black Americans do not represent all blacks everywhere.

No, I clearly said from the get-go that it was complicated, not all white people are the same, etc. And what's with the blue text? Meh, I'm not going to continue this if you can't keep track of all the people you're arguing with. You cut up everything I wrote without responding to the part about policies at all but there is no point in politics without policy.

thats true and as I learned from another forum poster(I wish I could recall his/her name to credit them) many whites came to the americas as slaves...white people actually owned white people...

most definitely, similar skin colour does not mean we are culturally alike...I know n american blacks, Caribbean blacks and african blacks they are culturally very different....even african blacks have vastly different cultures

I agree. I wonder why Moi blows hot and cold about capitalism, international trade, and a stable recognized currency. In many other Forum posts he contemns these things in heated language. But here he's right.

none actually, some chicken bone remains in s america and sweet potato found in polynesia may look tantalizing like the result of contact there is no hard evidence for it, speculative but nothing concrete....other than ship building the polynesians had nothing technological to offer, s america technology was more advanced than polynesian...the polynesian technological knowledge in ship building was not evident anywhere in the americas...

I personally think the chicken bones are evidence but if the polynesians did make contact they left without a trace they were no match for local inhabitants...

Well if you've read the entire thread you'll have noticed actual facts are very much optional, he makes them up...

Looking at your link women may be in the lead in two thirds of the countries but most are small populations...just a guess on my part but it looks closer to a 50/50 split which is still good....either way you're still right....

Yes it is. The Chumash and Gabrielino native Americans used Polynesian the technology of sewn planks and the general design of Polynesian ships to build the only sea going vessels seen in Pre-Columbian America.

Or they intermingled as DNA from both South America and Polynesia shows.

similar design isnt evidence, pyramids have built all over globe but independently...same goes for ship building...

Recent Dna results confirm all native americans came from Beringia not the pacific, and they did so more than 15k before polynesians colonized the pacific....

As someone who studied arechology in uni with the intent to be an archeologist I want you to be right and prove me wrong but nothing you've shown me will pass as evidence of contact in the archeological world, its just speculation...

It is tantalizing. We know that the Polynesians had the technology to reach South America- and there are the tantalizing anomalies like the chickens and sweet potatoes.

My own guess is that Polynesians probably made contact at some point, probably did some trading, but since there was no unoccupied areas in South America to settle in, and Polynesians didn't have the technological advantages to colonize inhabited lands(note also Australia), they probably had a few contract that left no real lasting impression on either side.

And you aren't familiar with the European origin of Clovis artifacts?

And it's an entirely false point. Evolution is constant. Cultures are divergent, and subjective.

I am familiar with claims of a European origin of Clovis artifacts. Most anyone who has read anything about the issue of the settlement of the Americas is familiar with those claims.

    But they are claims.

there is no evidence clovis points came from europe, genetic evidence doesn't support a trans atlantic crossing...native dna all oringinates from Beringia....

separate cultures do develop similar technologies without contact, similar requirements result in similar solutions...

Western civilization is history IMO. Since the foundation of the UN, globalization is the dominate "super-culture". Yet even western civilization had many influences that did not come from Europe. Cyrus the Great is considered the father of human rights by many. The originator of natural rights and very infuential in many western countries including the founding of the US. So it was always a combined human "super-culture" IMO. Cultural Imperalism works both ways we expand "our culture" and absorb some from others.

Everyone in this thread is using different ideas of what is a "culture". Then how to judge them. I tend to look at culture on a localized level with expanding it to even the entire US difficult at best. You expanded it further to included basically the culture of humanity.

I use anthropology and philosophy while you appear to be using morals, and technology.

It is easier for me to critizes the global culture, the US, local, and my own micro culture. Than a culture I am not a part of and do not completely understand. I know my many "cultures" have many faults so I must excuse others having faults as well.

If our current "super culture" continues to advance, and solves those problems then history will show it superior. If not and we destroy ourselves then tribal cultures that existed for a extremly long time were superior. If they laid the building blocks and we tear down the building that is obvious IMO. While western
civilization has contributed a great deal to our global society. It learned from many others societies to become what it was.

Well they link to no actual study so I am a little concerned about these numbers as well. Unfortunately there are some Aboriginal groups who politicize the issue, and bend some of the answers to suit their agenda :( I am extremely comfortable with 40,000. 60,000 seems very possible. Beyond that need to be very careful.

There was a major mega fauna die off about 46,000 years ago. If human patterns repeat we can see that as a real solid starting point for human occupation

Yah know - I have to say. I always laugh when I see the Outback Steak House commercials on TV and wonder about Americans. Then smile to myself remembering back home eating at the Texas Steak House chain and now wondering what Texans would think of such a place lol

LOL, I actually like the Outback steakhouse good prime-rib. Another favorite steakhouse is called Texas Roadhouse. Texans are pretty high on ourselves so I am sure most of us would have to check it out. When they ask how you like it cooked you gotta answer with a Texas draw " just knock the horns off and wipe it's ass".

While most Texans are actually not that way anymore some sterotypes can be funny. People like the exotic and have a sometime skewed look at how things really are. I remember when Paul Hogan came out with the Dundee movies when I was young I thought Aussie's were the coolest ever. Then Steve Irwin added a different but still cool version IMO. I always thought I would fit in but realize now most like not. I would love to see the wilds of oz however, the snakes that kill you in a few minutes and the crocs kind of worry me .
