This is racism at its worst. Can you imagine what the media would say if a white Republican put up an ad that said that the white people need to vote for the white candidate? Watch: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdjoHA5ocwU"]President Obama Announces the 2012 Launch of African Americans for Obama - YouTube[/ame] WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IN THE MEDIA IF ROMNEY RELEASED A VIDEO ANNOUNCING A WHITE AMERICANS FOR ROMNEY CAMPAIGN???
I'm pretty sure "racism at it's worst" was buying a black person and then killing him later on because you bought a better one, but hey - what the (*)(*)(*)(*) do I know, right? As I think about it, I see a difference between Obama making an appeal to African Americans and Romney making an appeal to White Americans. I see a difference in tone and theme between the two. I don't much care for either message, but I think I would find more offense in the Romney message.
Ironic that you make that reference, because the Democratic party was the party of slavery. Abraham Lincoln, who abolished slavery among other great feats as a president, was a Republican.
Lincoln was also very Left for the mainstream politics of the day - in some ways he was a proto-socialist. If you really want to claim a nasty Leftie as an icon of the Republican Party of today go ahead, As proof, a few Lincoln quotes: "Allow the president to invade a neighboring nation, whenever he shall deem it necessary to repel an invasion, and you allow him to do so whenever he may choose to say he deems it necessary for such a purpose - and you allow him to make war at pleasure." "I have always found that mercy bears richer fruits than strict justice." "Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration." "The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew."
There is a cultural difference between blacks and whites. If you've been a victim of government sponsored discrimination for decades and were enslaved for 200 years than by all means go ahead and put up your white ads. Until then you have to understand that there is a difference.
Not exactly racism at its worst. (Talk about hyperbole... Jeesh!) However, IMO, this is a foolish pitch which may very well come back to haunt Obama in November. Although he and his staff may have had good reason to suspect that African Americans were dissatisfied with his administration's performance in terms of what they did for Black people specifically during his first term, and thus believed they needed to make some sort of appeal to Black solidarity in order to invigorate and galvanize the Black vote, this ad could ultimately lose him more non-African American votes than gain him African American votes, should it be tactfully exploited by Romney supporters.
It is no different than the Republican candidates playing to the religious right by stating how religious (righteous) they are. It is called pandering. The problem with Obama is that instead of providing leadership he has continually taken sides.
How many blacks alive today were victims of decades of "government sponsored" discrimination and enslaved for 200 years? Which party sponsored such and which opposed it?
And that's the problem. You've been trained to see these two things differently when they are, in fact, the same thing. Your logical mind recognizes this as unequal, but your conditioned emotions make you rationalize it as okay. We cannot live in a post-racial society when we keep operating on double standards.
Try again, not a "lefty." Pretending the parties resembled today's Democrat and Republican party ethos' again? Too funny. Not really. I'm pretty sure it's the white Americans who bought blacks, brought them over, beat the (*)(*)(*)(*) out of them, then begrudgingly let them go free only a little while ago. That's a better way of putting what I meant. Thank you sir!
It's a compensation thing. Personally, I think it should be socially acceptable to have white groups just like we have black groups, but apparently, people still associate that with racism. Maybe in another few decades, things will be more evenhanded. Who knows? We might even evolve past the need to have race-specific groups. That would allow us to actually view each other simply as individuals.
Considering that separate but equal, and pre voting rights act were in place through the mid 1960s... 100s of thousands if not millions of blacks are alive today that experienced "government sponsored" discrimination.
My comments were in the context of America. This book is about the European slave trade in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Terrible double standard. Could a white person support a white only group of any kind? Nope. That makes him racist. Obama is pandering to a black only group. THAT'S racist. You can't justify it. You can't make excuses for it. It's flat out racist and its terrible that it's still allowed in today's day and age. No white hisotory month. No white only Scholarships. Is so hypocritical liberals can sit back and allow it.
Unspoken, I am sure the KKK supported and will support the "white" candidate in this presidential election as well as last presidential election at a near 100% clip.
