Of course I would not respect them. The democrats have been pandering to the minority populations for years, more welfare, more hand-outs. In the long haul, do you think that it is helping anything? It is just making them more dependent and more likely to vote [D] in the next election. It has been going on here in NYC for way to long. Until this cycle ends, nothing is going to change.

I will never agree with this. EVER. My grandfather had to flee Ireland because of the English and the atrocities they have committed there, should I hate Brits today because of that? No. We need to focus on moving forward and changing things for the better.

Well then I guess it's up to people like you and I change the deck. I am ready to do that, are you?

I’m 50 years old … and I couldn’t tell you what Unemployment or Welfare Check looks like. But unlike most people who aren’t Black, I’ve had to here reference to this for most of my natural born life. So you’ll have to excuse me and other African Americans if they are getting a little tired if the BS surrounding this, and especially from our paid politicians who actually know the truth about the real numbers.

I already do my part every single day, by proving the experts wrong.

Racism is prejudice or discrimination based on race. Anyone who has ever looked at a few people at a bar and made a decision to approach one for a conversation or drink has both prejudged that person and discriminated between them and the other folks on the bar. Quite often, race is one of the criteria.

Racism is not inherently a bad thing and as long as humans have multiple races we're likely to make choices based on those races.

The two problems we most often have with racism aren't really with racism. One problem is when folks harm each other and use race as a means of justifying that action. Lynching someone is not a bad thing simply because the person getting lynched is black. If you lynch that person for being a Jew or gay or none of the above... it's still a bad thing. The lynching is the problem. It's harming others that's the problem.

The second problem often associated with racism is when public policy limits, divides, or penalizes folks based on their race. And yes, actions in the private sector with sufficient impact can be de facto public policy. The problem here isn't racism, it's that this nation belongs to all of us and any unnecessary wall that limits, divides, or penalizes people diminishes us as a nation. People are free to make choices based on race, but the law belongs to all of us and applies to all of us. It has to apply to us as a single people or it doesn't serve us as a single people.

So no, racism is not and probably never will be a thing of the past. And no, you don't have to teach your children to not notice if someone is black or Mormon or gay, or be blind to whether they're female or Hispanic or tall. Just teach them they don't have a right to harm each other and teach them that the laws of this land must serve all of us equally.

I've never endorsed Newt Gingrich. 400 years?

I think most African Americans believe in a concept called White Privilege under which it is presumed that all whites have benefited from the institutions which have oppressed African Americans. This is the source of African American grievances and demand for reparations as well as racial preferences. This requires the redistribution of assets from Whites and Asians to African Americans. In my home state of California it also requires that African Americans receive academic preferences at the expense of Asian Americans.

This attitude in the African American underclass has created a pathology which fosters dependence and grievance. I think African Americans should receive reparations in the form of their own country where they would be in charge of everything. But I suspect that African Americans are afraid of being on their own. They shouldn't be fearful. They should accept the opportunity to fulfill their destiny.

Divide the country up, and let every group go its own way. What could be more fair than that?

I've been tooting that horn from day one here. Peaceful Segregation is the key, and its our only hope for salvation of an America that is headed toward a real civil war if we don't. Half of America is drinking from the government teat, and that number keeps growing exponentially because of liberal/socialist policies. Add to that number the overwhelming problems created by an entitlement seeking group of black people and we're headed toward a European type of society that's currently on its last legs. The rich, Conservative minded responsible working class can't keep footing the bill via wealth redistribution to these leeches of society without there being a dire consequence.

Sorry, Cigar, but his post was for more to the point than was your post.

What is BS about it? What are the "real numbers?"

I am glad you have never seen the likes of a welfare or unemployment check, neither have I, even when I had only a few dollars to my name [too much pride I guess]. This does not negate the fact that it is a serious problem with minorities.

We likely have a problem with people seeking entitlements that we as a country cannot afford. You may be able to argue that this problem exists to a greater extent among some minority groups of citizens, however I disagree with the assertion that this is a problem with minorities. That leap in logic is unfair and inaccurate but on topic. It turns out to be a pretty good illustration of the threads original assertion.

The B.S. is assuming the problem of people seeking "more welfare, more hand-outs" than we can afford is a "problem with minorities."

The numbers speak for themselves. They are not the easiest to find, especially anything "official" because we can't actually admit this is a problem, you know, it's not "PC."

    Here are the numbers that come up in searches more recently;

Traits of families on AFDC (1)

    Race
    --------------
    White 38.8%
    Black 37.2
    Hispanic 17.8
    Asian 2.8

    Other 3.4

Minorities make up almost 60% of all people receiving some form of welfare. The reason for that is a discussion for another thread. I will stick to my original assertion that it is a big problem with minorities.

Great post. And I think you just coined an important new term here as well. "Race industry." That's exactly what it is; an industry. Racial victimhood is big business.

So the largest racial group are the non-Asians? By your logic, it seems we should blame them more than the non-whites...

Seriously, I don't care if it's PC or not. You're missing the point. Even if most of the people taking welfare were Jewish or Hispanic it wouldn't mean we have a problem with Hispanics or Jews. We don't have a problem with minorities. We have a problem with free-loaders. Many of whom happen to also be minorities and many of whom also happen to be non-minorities.

Deal with the group that has the problem: the free loaders. Don't distract from the problem by asking people to focus on some other group, many of whom have nothing to do with the problem. Like minorities, non-Asians, or Jews.
