While I agree with most of what you said, I must respectfully dissagree with the last part. Whenever I read any kind of statement like that, I am reminded of the life story and quote from a wise man, Martin Niemöller.

I agree, in the idea that it is not the job of the US to intervene in such incidents. However, often times you have cases where the US is part of a UN or other multi-national force that does end up getting involved (Somalia, former Yugoslavia, Kuwait). Then other times, should we sit back and do nothing when the UN makes the choice to not get involved (Darfur)?

I would still mostly agree with you, only in that the US (nor any other country) should decide to take such actions on it's own. I used to be a large believer in the UN, and that really is the body that should be getting involved. But over the last few decades we have repeatedly seen them not get involved (other then sending a letter of protest, which to these types of nations is as usefull as sending them more toilet paper).

For example, I have seen the recent actions in Mali, and it is reminding me a lot of Afghanistan 20 years ago. Especially the purposefull destruction of UNESCO Heritage Sites. Simply be destroying such sites, it shows that the enemy gathering there has absolutely no respect for the UN, and will not care anything for what they say short of being removed.
