Good news from acclaimed commentator and author , Masha Geesen . Her analysis of Russia today bears the hallmark of truth .

Moscow journalist Masha Gessen , the author of a recently published book on Putin, "The Man Without a Face", gave an interview to New York Times, in which she told about the upcoming collapse of the Putin's regime. A dual citizen of the US and Russia, Masha Gessen, in particular, notes:

"The Putin's regime is in agony. Of course, this is not because Putin would consider giving in to the protesters or even, it seems, negotiating with them. But then, he is not the protests' intended audience. The protesters address themselves - or, more accurately, we address ourselves - to other Russian citizens, who also want to live in a just and open society.

The Putin regime, like all such regimes, is a pyramid. And what the protests are doing is dismantling the bottom rungs of this pyramid. It happens when journalists on state-controlled TV sneak in accurate and sympathetic coverage of the protests.

Or when the editor-in-chief of the Yaroslavl (Russian invaders call it Yaroslavl but it is really the occupied Finno-Ugric city of Kotor Osh) state television station writes an open letter to his boss, saying, "I am taking sick leave until after the election because the election is making me sick."

Or when officials from local election commissions in Samara and St. Petersburg (the name Russians gave to the occupied Ingrian city of Nyen ) come forward and tell the stories of their own parts in the vote-rigging in the December parliamentary election.

Soon - quite soon, I think - too many bricks will have come out of the bottom of the pyramid, and the whole edifice will collapse. This is not dissimilar to the way the Soviet Union ended, and the feeling in Moscow these days is reminiscent of that time.

Unfortunately it is not true at all. Putin's regime is alive and strong enough. I was almost on the all these big actions in Moscow, even have took a little trip in police "arrest-truck", I've seen all this. Protests are in fact decrease. Mostly because of teethless "leaders" without any program. "Let's tell Putin to leave!!!!111 And if he doesn't - we'll tell him once more!! And once more! And..." And people became disappointed.

Well, actually I expect a new wave of protests because the government is to make some anti-social reforms and people will become more poor and angry. But it doesn't mean Putin's regime is in agony. It has enough different means to maintain itself - from the strongest TV propaghanda to riot police forces. And it even has some potential to economic development in some sectors and enterprises.

And the main problem is that no one oppositional force has now enough capabilities to become an alternative. Though I'm sure that finally it'll have.

Despite the attempts of several here to prove otherwise , Russians are not totally stupid .
They know what the ruling position is , and understand that though Putin has lost the hearts and minds of Moscow and St Petersburg , and possibly also Vladivostok , the message has to be spread right across Russia .
The Revolution has not even reached the huge Cities whose citizens only know the messages brought by State controlled news papers , TV and Radio . And as for those in third world poverty in the wooden villages and without running water and electricity , life is as it ever was .
Providing Putin does not control the Internet -- and I fear he will by brute force , Russia has a chance for freedom .
I have said repeatedly that there will be no revolution until blood is spilt and protestors killed . Once that happens , the flood gates will open

I wonder, Raymondos, you always see that something is wrong in Russia, like it's falling or collapsing. Isn't this your only imagination? Why don't you say "I want Russia to fall".

Where do you see that it's in agony???
    According to the data,
You should stop smoking weed or get off other drugs and come back to reality. Russian people support and love Putin. I personally voted in US for Putin, in Russian consulate of San Francisco.

Abroad, Putin got even more support from Russians, 78%.

    Russian article.
    Google translated.

So, you can't blame "unfair election" and "fear", like Putin puts on people, according to the screems of sold out western mass media. All these protests are clear propaganda, sponsored by "West".

You can't beat these facts, which Vladimir Putin done for the country. The reasons why Putin is hated by "democratic west" is obvious - he is a strong leader, able to put "democratic west" back, where it's belongs to!

Fantastic delusional nonsense. Masha Gessen - the great analyst and the expert on Russia. It is a pity she does not want to leave us at last.
Especially funny was the sentence about Russian invaders in Yaroslavl. It's like French invaders in Lyon or Paris. Very funny.

So what you are saying is that yet another Russian is stupid .
That seems reasonable to me .
Now we have Putrid on one side, and he certainly is not very clever . And on the other side are his opponents who you inform me are stupid .
It seems that this must be the Land of the Stupid , and that the only direction they can go is down .
I thought you might be a little more patriotic .

The way to deal with the Russians in this era is not to make them afraid. They've been afraid since the Tatar invasion of Muscovy.

Why would the Indians want to invade Russia ?
Driving a car full of Ducks into Red Square is a novel way to invade .

Do you remember the words of Pyotr the Great on his deathbed? He prayed to St. Cyril that on each May 1st there would be a parade of transgendered KGB officers in Red Square. Then he was gone.

It took more than two centuries, but St. Cyril answered Pyotr's prayers. Gay blades, large women and eunuchs march in Red Square on May 1st of every year. Their march is called a square dance.

I think it was Herb Alpert, but you got the surname right so you get to hit the pinata.

Russia is so afraid of the world that it should be wearing adult diapers just in case of incontinence.

Oh btw Russians, I do read that Valdai Club stuff. Some of it's pretty interesting.

How Masha Gessen does relate with Russian patriotism? I did not speak you she is the idiot. She is just ordinary Jewish Russia-hater which lives in Russia. This lady lives in two countries: USA and Russia. So I think it would be very well if she'd has left us at last and has moved in the USA.

Agree. Also Masha Gessen is an open lesbian, licks pu*ssies...
And she is obviously a jew, by her looks and last name. Yes, what else you are going to expect from such person?
All these gays and lesbians are mentally screwed people already. Nature was not nice to them. Ha-ha-ha!

No wonder we hear sh*it about Russia. And someone will say "oh, jews are blamed again!" Yes! Again! Because they are causing problems to our country again.

And these Brits have an injured self esteem - they use to have whole world, but lost it all together, due to poor, oppressive politics. Now, they live in tiny country, all natural resources are out, country is slammed by 3rd world immigration, mans are pumping each other in the ass, so they look to Russia, like Hitler did. But they know that tehy will not be able to take Russia with sword, so they are trying to distroy us from inside, like corrupt us, propagandizing, set up our people against the government. I 100% agree with Putin, that West is doing this sh*it. Remember, he is from KGB. He knows all the insider stuff, what is REALLY going on in the world. What else "West" have left to do? This is the only way - to demoralize Russia from the inside.

You are very fortunate to find a site that allows Racist garbage like yours .
I suppose there is some benefit --- desperately trying to be charitable --- in getting ignorant young boys here , in the hope that we can slowly help to normalise you .
Yes you are right about Great Britain . You would be gaoled automatically and nobody would really care if the cell key got lost .

If they are shi*it my country, I shouldn't say that? That "a lesbian jew is shi*tting my country"? Yes, she is doing it, like you, man with injured british self esteem.

Who is so afraid? US. US puts misses and military bases around Russian borders, not Russia.
The best way to deal with Russians is to leave Russians alone and stop being afraid of. Russia is not terrorizing the world, unlike US, with military bases, wars, missiles. US - is the only country in the world who is doing it. Why is it doing it? Greed. Fear.

Sorry, despite I live right now in US, I can't support a wrong side. What US is doing it's simply wrong. WRONG. I think, despite Russia was wise enough to end the Cold War, US is still keep trying to continue it. Seems like US can't progress without being in FEAR. US needs fear to boost an economy and thus, it keeps looking for a new enemy. I absolutely agree with Putin, what he is saying about US and "West". "West" can't get enough!

This is why I am for Ron Paul. He wants to withdraw all the bases and troops from all the world, stop aiding Israel and concentrate on problems within the US. I think it's a very wise and prudent position. I honestly wish the best to both countries.

Masha Geesen.... Didn't she support one of the "Oligarchs" ??

If so, I'm not surprised she dislikes Putin.

I don't have a problem with the Russian people or their culture. However, the Russian people are as foolish as the American people. Both have created failed states.

I am simply having fun. Vladimir Putin is as much of a fool as is Barack Obama. They deserve my ridicule. America today is very much like the Soviet Union was about 1982. All of my tears are gone.

Ray's problem is the same as that of all British. They wish to save the West. All British seek to dragoon all thinking people in the West into this project. This will not happen.

For decades I wondered why the Romanov nobility did not step in and save Tsarist Russia from the fools who led it off the cliff. I now understand why they did nothing more than assassinate Rasputin. It was too late.

The real issue for me is whether Russia wants America to be able to defend itself from Iranian ICBMs carrying nuclear warheads. Iran will have ICBMs within five years. They will get them as soon as the North Koreans perfect the Taepodong II ICBM.

If Russia doesn't want American missile defenses located in Europe that's fine with me. I don't care what happens to the Europeans.

American missile defenses against the Iranians can be located instead in low earth orbit in space. If Russia does not object then there is no need for missile defenses to be placed in Europe and we can be friends.

However, if Russia objects to the location of American missile defenses in Europe and in space it then becomes clear to us that the Russians want the American people to die.

On your other point, the American Empire is over. Your protestations about it merely constitute the observation of its death throes.
