So a Treaty which would require no laws to be changed in the U.S, which is based of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and which is aimed to bring the world up to American standards was voted down by republicans?

Still pandering to tin foil hat **********s i see. i guess handing 2012 to Obama wasnt enough, they're going for 2016 it appears.

    From the link:

Among their fears about the disabilities convention were that it would codify standards enumerated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child — and therefore United Nations bureaucrats would be empowered to make decisions about the needs of disabled children — and that it could trump state laws concerning people with disabilities.

I think I found the problem...it is nothing more than another Leftninny attempt to subjegate the sovereignity of the United States to the UN.

Of course, you couldn't mention that, could you?

The Whole Truth is FORBIDDEN to Leftists, isn't it?

Actually it is people without disabilities who are denied rights that the disabled enjoy.

The disabled get more rights that everyone else does not have.

But if America already has the Americans with Disability Act why do we need a new foreign treaty to do the same thing?

This is actually a good thing. No state has a right to discriminate against disabled persons in cases other than those which present a real hazard to the public, like letting blind people drive.

I thought sovereign states had the right to decide their own laws?

    Horse hockey.

    Like what?

To bind the other parties to the same laws so that they cannot hire marginally disabled people and pay them less without bloody good reason.

We have a Federal Government for a reason. We dont need the UN or its treaty. If other countries want to follow our example that is great. They dont need the bloody UN to tell them what to do.

That may be what you want to believe.

But the public is not safer by allowing some citizens to enjoy special privileges.

Between the prospect of a world run by international Leftist loonies and bureaucrats on the one hand, and one run by Islamist loonies and theocrats on the other, I'm thankful that I probably won't be around in 50 years to enjoy their particular plans for forcing people to live according to their bullsh!t ideologies.

I can't believe ANYONE would actually say that. But maybe you're right. Lets take away the wheelchair ramps and accessible bathrooms, lets stop giving incentives to companies that hire them, and by all means lets put the 90 year old woman in a walker at the back of the parking lot to make her an easier target. Those sort of attitudes are exactly why your ilk took such a beating in the last election and will insure that you're not going to be a voice in politics for very much longer. When I hear things like this from the hard core christian right wingers I have to wonder WWJD?????

Your side is crying buckets of tears over how bad the disabled are being treated in America and I just pointed out that they are in fact being given special treatment instead.

And people often abuse that compassion.

For instance, how times have you seen a perfectly healthy person hop out of their car after parking in the handicapped parking space at the front of the store?

You want to help a few people but end up screwing many more than you help.

Trust me, the US does not want to get into any treatys with the UN for any reason or purpose. In fact I'm astounded we still support the UN which, in my view, is an enemy.

The next time I see a disabled veteran from a war that you supported use a handicap stall and the sidewalk ramps, I will let him know that he is getting unneeded extra privledges. No doubt you have been writing to your Congressman about that.
