I propose that all households with children under age 18 must have all guns locked in a safe or rendered useless with trigger locks when all adults are away.

Too many kids shoot each other by accident or on person, with guns that parents leave around unsecured.

If a child kills himself or others with a gun that parents left unsecured while they are away, parents should face a penalty.

    what say you?

Sorry that is a well meaning idea but in large areas of the nation where there is a strong hunting culture under 18 years old will have access to firearms as a matter of course.

My father was not big into hunting but still we have a number of deer hunting rifles around the home and I knew where they was store and if for some reason I had wish to had taken one or more I could had done so.

As my family was not big into gun culture it never enter my mind to do so however and the only deadly weapon I was into was a bow powerful enough to killed a deer or a man at roughly double the range of a handgun.

I do remember thinking that I would must prefer to be hit by a handgun bullet then an arrow with razor sharp hunting tip design to bleed out any large animal within minutes.

sorry but I think requiring parents lock up their guns when they are not around, is reasonable.

but of course the NRA will oppose this as "tyranny"

    That is your fantasy.

You seem to enjoy making up fake stuff to blame on N.R.A.

nothing you suggest for gun owners is remotely "reasonable" because you are on record supporting nonsense like magazine limits and other unconstitutional restrictions.

rendering guns inoperable when parents are away is reasonable

too many kids kill themselves or others with guns when unsupervised

Funny, I didn’t die or shoot any one and as I was raised in a house where any gun could be loaded. The same with my girls, both raised around guns, both trained, and both given access. Now in their 20’s both are crack shots, and more likely to terminate a rapist than an unwanted pregnancy; they weren’t raised to piss themselves as a means of defense.

2,000 dead children a year from accidental shootings, is enough to require trigger locks or safes.

I don't think you can legislate responsible parenting but the IRS could give tax credits to parents who buy gun safes & the well funded Soros & Bloomberg Gun Ban groups could give away trigger locks "...for the children".

At any rate, how would you enforce this mandate, random home inspections by the ATF?

And, how will that be enforced? The same way we keep prescription meds and poisonous chems from kids?

It’s in part of a product of people letting the government set dictates for raising their children. Yep that’s the ticket, have children and abdicate responsibility to the state... a good liberal strategy.

no its not because you cannot prove that those were legal gun owners who would follow the additional laws you want.
you spend lots of time wanting to impose more laws on gun owners-you don't spend much time demanding real criminals be punished.

this new law would affect criminal gun owners and legal gun owners.

gun in home? childen in home? use safe or trigger locks
