    They do.
Just ask farmers and loggers how automation and machinery has helped reduce the number needed to do those jobs.
And yet, we still have jobs available all across the country today.

    ...
Private payrolls increased by 192,000 in April, more than expected for resilient labor market

Private employers added 192,000 workers in April, better than the Dow Jones consensus outlook for 183,000 though a slight step down from the upwardly revised 208,000 in March, ADP reported.

Here is something I found out:
The minimum wage law that took effect in April, guarantees at least $20-per-hour for workers at fast food restaurant chains with at least 60 locations nationwide. That doesn't include school food service workers, historically some of the lowest-paid workers in public education.

Min wage laws and increases in wage have been around since the 1930s.
And America and the world's economies still thrive.

Well I hope they can raise the minimum wage to $100.00 and hour and make the food free.

I doubt that will happen anytime soon or at least probably not in our lifetime.

Those who advocate increasing the minimum wage IMO clearly do not understand economics. If the price of labor goes up fewer people are employed.

There is no reading between the lines. That was the initial intent - to give an excuse not to hire skilled blacks moving north from the south.

That's the beauty of supply and demand. The game will never stop, just change. The more money the top has, the more they will invest in new things that will drive new demand and then new supply. If you think that they rich keep their money under their matress and not working, then I don't know what to tell you.

More Bad News for California Residents Amid New Minimum Wage Hike (msn.com)
The goal of California's audacious decision to raise the minimum wage for fast-food employees to $20 hourly was to close the disparity in salaries. Regrettably, it's also leading to major hikes and job losses, negatively affecting many Californians' lives.

This could be the sign of the times for the State of California. What else is there?

1938: After a legislative struggle, Congress passes the Fair Labor Standards Act, which establishes a federal minimum wage of 25 cents per hour, and the bill is signed into law by President Roosevelt. Originally, the legislation had called for a 40-cent-per-hour wage, but it was scaled back to win the support of members of Congress from southern states.

    ...
2009: Thanks to legislation passed two years earlier, the federal minimum wage rises to $7.25.

There were about 55M workers in 1938, the year min wage laws were enacted.
In 2023 with fed min wage now at $7.25 and dozens of increases since 1938, there about 167M workers in 2023.

    Nearly triples in size.
I don't see how min wages hurt workers overall. And reduce the workforce size.

    History shows something completely different.

There is one state where someone works at McDonald's, worked there 5 years and works at $17.50 an hour.

Which shows that increasing wages does not hurt workers.

If such a statement were true, there'd never been a middle class that unions fought for and achieved.
More wages created a middle class.
Ford raised his workers wages so they could afford the product they made.

It seems rather silly for those claiming a rise in wages means less workers. That's never held true over the long haul. Maybe for some and the job loss is most always temporary.

A raise in pay benefits the workers.
