What existed before these mechanisms were in place? You are basically making an assumption that government cannot make a mistake. The Department of Education is irreplacable because otherwise, why did they create it? The Federal Reserve is integral to the capitalist system because we've put up with it, etc.

What if we made a mistake, or special interests got us into situations or legislation that harmed capitalism, freedom, education, etc? Tell me, how is your version of Capitalism doing these days? How is the American education system stacking up? Maybe the engine is broken. Maybe this new crap we've been stuck with is a cheap corporate version of what used to work perfectly well.

The Dept. of Education has only existed since 1980.

Last year it costs about $71 billion dollars - btw.

Americans lived for generations without a Dept. of Education...and still lead the world.

Americans are not going to stop learning if the Dept. of Education did not exist.

And for certain they would have more money in their pockets.

Voting is for suckers who think they are going to actually accomplish anything.

I have more important things to do with my time.

I'll explain it this way.Obama and Pelosi Demanded we Overhaul
the Healthcare system. When it didn't need an overhaul.Healthcare
was fine except it was too expensive and medicare was in trouble.
Mitch McConnell tried to debate the merits of fixing medicare and
providing an alternative approach to Health Insurance.By allowing
portabillity { allowing purchase of health insurance out of state where
prices are competitive }.The Dems would not even hear of it.
McConnell also wanted to consider TORT reform which dramatically
raised the fees of Doctors who had to provide for themself increasing
frivilous lawsuit insurance.Dems would not hear of it.
The dems who had both houses of Congress and the Executive
would not even consider compromising with the Republicans when it came
to the Stimulus bill and Cap & Trade. Then when the tea party came into fruition, the Dems felt they would end up making fools of themselves so
the Democrats called for Town Halls. But those Town halls proved to
be the undoing of the Democrats. That idea just kept getting worse and
worse for the Dems.Mostly seniors showed up at their Congress persons
Town Hall and asked question in a direct and no holds barred fashion.
The Dems were pegged. Not many democrats showed their faces at town halls.
It was Conservatives and Moderates who quickly became known as the
Tea Party.BTW ... Nancy Pelosi did not hold one Town Hall.

I would like nothing more than the fraudulent Dept. of Education to
get closed down. But I wanna know what would be used in it's place.
We already have PTA's and school boards.Don't forget Michael Moore
cut his political teeth as the youngest member of a school board in
    Michigan.

My mistake - I thought you liked the D. of E..

    What to replace it with?

Leave it up to the states...let them decide how they want their education system to function.

However, I do think you need a VERY small Dept. of Education (with a staff of a few dozen AT MOST and VERY minimal funding) to act as watchdogs to make sure the states are adhering to basic reading/writing/arithmetic standards.
And to report those findings to Congress and the public on a regular basis - sort of like giving the state's regualr report cards on their education systems.
But do NOT - I repeat do NOT - give them any power.

They are simply watchdogs with no bite.

Unlike Ron Paul - I do not think doing completely away with most departments is a good idea.
I just think they are WAY, WAY too big and have WAY, WAY too much power.
They should mostly act as watchdogs to let the people know what is going on so they can make their own decisions.

Sort of a federal Consumers Reports.

Ever four years people take time off their jobs, go to a polling place, pull of lever and hope whoever they vote for is going to make a change for the better. Ron Paul couldn't even get smaller government under his President Ronald Reagan. That's why he left his party. What makes anyone think we are going to get it with Ron Paul.

Sure Ron Paul is consistent but so was Barack Obama and he barely reversed anything Bush did. At least that's what he campaigned on. At best if we do get Ron Paul or someone else in we will reverse things that Obama did, but anything which reduces the size of Government I won't be holding my breath on.

    I don't trust ANY politician...including Ron Paul.

But the guy has been harping on about the same thing for decades.

And most of the time - without much public support.

Most politicians would not dare do that.

Clearly, the guy has strong beliefs.

So, though I cannot be sure, I do believe that he would do a higher percentage of what he promises then any other candidate that I am aware of.

And he is also one of the few hard core Austrian Schoolers running right now. And again, he has been preaching it for decades.

However, as I posted above, I do not believe he will win.

Since it doesn't take an hour to vote, it's pretty clear I wasn't speaking of your busy schedule.

I see now you did mean it
Between the earlier post and last paragraph, I think I'll be quiet.

It doesn't take an hour to vote if you living in a small district with about 1,000 residents. People who live in cities or towns with a lot more will disagree with you.

    Okay...

Lucky you. My state doesn't even have 1.7 million people living in it.

Is it fair to assume Ron Paul is just a 3rd place kinda guy.
Runs Third if there's only 2 in the race.
Runs third when he jogs by himself.
Some guys are like that. There Mr.Third in a vacant room.
Even when they go doo-doo their Poop finishes before they do.
No biggie.I mean, now if Ron Paul kept his potty training toilet from
when he was a tot, that'd be something worth adding to his resume.
    Resumish ?

At least Ron Paul is consistent in his poll placement. If he isn't in 3rd place he's in 4th place.

So far the #1 & #2 offer nothing in difference compared to the Bush-Obama era in correcting the problems. There seems to be no reason to support them in my opinion but, I suppose the majority of people just like to see themselves "winning" by voting a certain way when in reality it's not a Sport. If only people took their Country and Politics above Fantasy Sports games and reality shows...

You will lose unless either Chris Christie or Cain runs.

As long as it's a person with a C in front of their name.

He's fat, hates unions, stands up to bullies and doesn't read from a teleprompter.

What else is there to know?

    I'm not. They disgust me.

However being Fat is very anti media and is seen as very un-presidential and I likes that. I likes that a lot.
