Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is the current host of "Celebrity Apprentice" is locked in a fierce battle with the former host of the show and current President of the United States Donald Trump.

During remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Trump had said that he wanted to "pray for Arnold" due to Schwarzenegger bringing in low ratings on "The Celebrity Apprentice."

In response, Schwarzenegger suggested in a short clip posted to social media that the two swap roles, CNN reports.

"Hey Donald, I have a great idea. Why don't we switch jobs?" Schwarzenegger said. "You take over TV because you're such an expert on ratings and I take over your job and then people can finally sleep comfortably again."

A spokesman for Schwarzenegger, Daniel Ketchell, spoke in detail on the former governor's remarks in a statement.

"Arnold is praying that President Trump can start improving his own approval ratings, which were the worst in history for an incoming President, by taking his job seriously and working inclusively," Ketchell told CNN.

Schwarzenegger was announced as Trump's replacement on the show in September 2015, after Trump decided to run for office.

Trump praised Schwarzenegger at the time, saying on Twitter, "Congrats to my friend @Schwarzenegger who is doing next season's Celebrity Apprentice. He'll be great & will raise lots of $ for charity."

However, Trump's tone did not match his earlier exuberance on Thursday.

"The ratings went right down the tubes," Trump said at the breakfast. "It has been a disaster."

Trump then said to the audience, "I want to just pray for Arnold ... for those ratings."

The President called out Schwarzenegger when the new host brought in smaller viewership for the premiere of the new season than Trump had in his final season as host.

"Wow, the ratings are in and Arnold Schwarzenegger got "swamped" (or destroyed) by comparison to the ratings machine, DJT," Trump had tweeted last month.

He is sooooooo lowrent and insecure.

I slept more comfortably with Nixon, Reagan and both the bushes. I would have slept more comfortably with any of the republican vice presidents or republican nominees for President. I would even have slept better with Sarah Palin in that office. I sleep better when someone works hard to understand the nature of the problem and his options to solve it. Trump really does not care enough to even to bother to study and learn. there is no hope for this country beyond an unbelievable string of pure dumb luck.

I really do wish very very hard that he dies soon so that Pence can take over and Pence is only marginally safer in that job. there is no hope at all for this counrty

I don't know much about it.. I think its tradition that the President holds a prayer breakfast.. Its an annual event since JFK.. or maybe earlier. Its called the National Prayer Breakfast.

Trump used it as a platform to insult Schwartzenegger and claim he had better ratings on the Apprentice.

    Trump is senile.

Thanks Republicans, this is what happens when you limp along forever championing a bankrupt ideology and then fate hands you a fantastic stroke of luck, which is an utter disaster for us all.

I'd vote for Arnie. At least he has a brain capable of focusing on something other than himself and his ridiculous orange ego.

Goes back to Eisenhower and people wondered why even he did it. It's part of the President showing how religious he is. He's supposed to say something solemn but hopeful about one or the other downtrodden group we should all pray for, it's not a ****** Roast.

Also, he used Hell in a profane way in front of a room of preachers, Class.. class all the way.

Jesus Christ on a walker, Mr Screw the Pooch Supreme the Doughwad in Chief, this jerk could (*)(*)(*)(*) up an Irish wake

That's when I really said -- but we had tremendous success on The Apprentice. And when I ran for president, I had to leave the show. That's when I knew for sure that I was doing it. And they hired a big, big movie star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to take my place. And we know how that turned out.

The ratings went down the tubes. It's been a total disaster and Mark will never, ever bet against Trump again. And I want to just pray for Arnold if we can, for those ratings, OK?

I have never wished for anyone to die. That comment as alarming.

I also sleep very well. :)

    Mr. Trump is the president.
He showed the nation during the campaign, numerous reasons why he should not be president.
    But, here we are. :)

Things will either get better, or they will not.
You or I have no control over such matters, other than how we treat people on a day to day basis.

LOL, I saw both ends of this yesterday as well; the great "bloviator" with the road kill on his head rambling on about a nonsensical TV show - at a national prayer breakfast for heaven's sake. I did think the Terminator's comeback was hilarious. It's a shame we have to witness this kind of thing from a president......

"The Sperminator" Schwarzenegger started this all in personal attacks against Trump. He's just ticked off he couldn't run for president back then. If he could have, he probably would have won - back then anyway.

I find it amusing how many people are outraged that Trump does not agree to silently be people's punching bag.

These "OMG! Did you hear what Trump said? Now he's really, really crossed the line!" is hysterical.

The demand is that the president be a plastic actor playing the role correctly as if it is a role in a Hollywood movie - and the directors tell him what to say, how to say it and how to look. HOW dare he make personal comments or have personal opinions! Most of all, he has a presidential duty to let anyone take potshots at him for which he must not respond. Rather, he should "rise above it all" and be a facade on a hill that looks correct.

    :roflol:

Those were criticisms of Abraham Lincoln too. Looked scruffy. The media blasted his Gettysburg address for deviating from expectations by being so short as grossly improper behavior. Too controversial. Didn't give in with endless compromises to get along with everyone.

I don't think many Democrats have figured out 1.) Trump really enjoys this and 2.) his speaking his mind, even if less than correctly, is exactly why blue collar formerly Democrat voters in the Rust Belt voted for him. Even CNN when it interviewed blue collar union workers? They all said they previously voted Democrat, but saw Hilary as a person who would say careful selected words to say anything to get a vote, while Trump talking off the cuff, even if in bad taste, caused them to believe at least he's real.

Simply, they don't care about all this OMG! demands of correctness. In fact, the crude sides of it made him more human and more believable. It may be crude, bad taste, trivial and insulting, but at least he speaks his mind.

What does this mean? This non-stop ranting about Trump's personal comments is EXACTLY what caused him to carry the decisive rust belt states. Blue collar workers tend to say what they think too without worry of whether it is means the endless perpetually changing PC and social behavior rules of etiquette. They don't let other people tell them what they may and may not say too.

I only want him to die for the good of the country. Pence would be a better commander in chief and national security President even if he might be worse domestically. Pence is capable of listening to reason, and that is a nice attribute when three five star generals and your secretary of defense is telling you that your impulse to bomb North Korea into the stone age over some personal insults exchanged might not work out or when your CIA director and National Security Chairman beg you not to 'tweet' national security secrets or send them via email to your BFF Vladamir.
