...and that puts a rest to that." Exact quote, Bill Hemmer about an hour ago. Yep, if a DEMOCRAT born in the US of a US mother wants to run for 'president, he's not eligible. A REPUBLICAN who is NOT born in the US but has a US mother, A-OKAY!! I just want to be sure I understand the 'rules'. Cruz is the FIRST in. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was the first out.

Sen. Ted Cruz announces presidential bid, vows to 'stand for liberty'
    Published March 23, 2015FoxNews.com

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, ticking off a litany of President Obama policies he opposes, promised Monday to return to a government by Constitution and "stand for liberty" as he officially announced his 2016 presidential bid.

Cruz made the announcement during a speech at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. He earlier declared his candidacy via a Twitter post early Monday, becoming the first major candidate to officially declare....
n recent weeks, Cruz has faced questions over his own citizenship. Two former Justice Department lawyers said last week there is no doubt the Canadian-born senator is eligible to run for the White House.

"There is no question that Senator Cruz has been a citizen from birth and is thus a 'natural born Citizen' within the meaning of the Constitution," Neal Katyal, acting solicitor general in the Obama administration, and Paul Clemente, solicitor general in the President George W. Bush administration, wrote in a joint article.

I would think that a Senator with only two years experience - no experience operating a large business or governing a state ... and a lawyer to
boot - would turn off those Republicans who felt Obama had too little experience to be President.

    No?

Smartest man in government, believes in liberty and freedom, wants to get rid of Obamacare, supports our allies instead of our enemies like Obama....I like this guy.

Apparently, that 'thin resume', ONLY MATTERS if the candidate is a Democrat (or make that a black Democrat--I'm not sure which is more abhorrent to the Right). No?

There's a difference between thin and non existant. You can tell Cruz has done more just by the fact liberals already hate him. No one even knew who Obama was 2 years into his senate gig.

Could he govern if most of his Republican Congressional people dislike him and the remaining Democrats abhor him? Hard enough to get things passed through Congress if the opposition hates you, but if a large section of your own party hates you ... well, it would be like Obama-time on steroids.

The EXACT QUOTE from FOX News.

"Cruz was born in Calgary to an American mother which makes him an American citizen. So that puts a rest to that."

Well you gotta give 'em credit for having balls for their UNMITIGATED HYPOCRISY!!

I always love when a candidate spouts these remarks, then they add all the "caveats" to liberty that they see fit. Cruz is going to be destroyed the minute the War on drugs, SSM, and abortion are mentioned by him.

As much as I like Cruz, I have to agree with your statement. Cruz has taken positions on tough issues and the liberal press will crucify him for it.

A leader needs to build coalitions to lead. You don't do that by backstabbing your own party.

HE'S AN EGOTIST ON STEROIDS. Read about his days at Princeton. Yeah, I'm guessing his classmates, of EITHER PARTY, thought he was prick! I'll ask the obvious, how do you get 2 sides of ANY group that must work together to get anything done if are described by others this way?? (Frankly, I'd be reaaaal worried about this guy even getting along with REPS)...

His classmates at Princeton remember him, according to a 2013 profile, the way many see him today: smart, confident, firm on conservative principles and polarizing.

After Princeton, he went on to study at Harvard Law; his classmates from that time also remember him as a smart but divisive guy with a hard edge.

I thought Carson had already announced.

In any case, I hope those two are the first ones out of the running. The Republicans need to come back to moderatism.

And more 'recollections'. This from a classmate WHO DIDN'T REMEMBER him (but whose wife did--vividly) and his researching Ted from other Princeton alum after Ted made the national 'stage'....

...But the weird thing was I didn't remember him. And the context here is that I have a really good memory. If we meet after twenty years, I'm far more likely to remember you than vice versa and I'll probably remember little details about you too. I don't forget a lot of stuff, especially people. But I didn't remember the name or the guy I was seeing on TV.

As it turned out, though, almost everyone I knew well in college remembered him really well. Vividly. And I knew a number of his friends. But for whatever reason I just didn't remember him. When I saw college pictures of him, I thought okay, yeah, I remember that guy but sort of in the way where you're not 100% sure you're not manufacturing the recollection.

I was curious. Was this just my wife who tends to be a get-along and go-along kind of person? So I started getting in touch with a lot of old friends and asking whether they remembered Ted. It was an experience really unlike I've ever had. Everybody I talked to - men and women, cool kids and nerds, conservative and liberal - started the conversation pretty much the same.

"Ted? Oh yeah, immense a*#hole." Sometimes "total raging a#%hole." Sometimes other variations on the theme. But you get the idea. Very common reaction.

But that wasn't all. Before retelling this or that anecdote, there was one other thing that everybody said, "A really, really smart dude."

Among other things, it was a mystery to me how and why this guy had made such a strong impression on so many people but I'd just missed or forgotten him. Here's a story about Ted's college years from last month in the DailyBeast. I remember the name and face of every other student mentioned. But not Ted. Maybe that's because I spent a lot of my sophomore year in kind of a fog. But it didn't stop me from getting to know lots of other people who arrived that year - like my future wife, for instance.

Here's the gist from that DB story ...

In addition to Mazin and Leitch, several fellow classmates who asked that their names not be used described the young Cruz with words like "abrasive," "intense," "strident," "crank," and "arrogant." Four independently offered the word "creepy," with some pointing to Cruz's habit of donning a paisley bathrobe and walking to the opposite end of their dorm's hallway where the female students lived.

    Anecdotal info from someone...nice.

Any other "hit" pieces you've managed to scrounge up from obscure places?

All anecdotal evidence against obama is now valid.

If he gets the nod, he'll get destroyed in the primaries. The GOP need a quality candidate.

No actually, you have EXACTLY the wrong take on this. CRUZ has done NOTHING! Except read Green Eggs and Ham in a Senate stunt that cost
taxpayers over a million $ and for which HE didn't even comprehend the very parable he was reading. That is NOT doing your homework.

Also a massive social conservative whose idea of small government is one just small enough to fit into every bedroom in America.

The people of TX love him, nobody in Illinois even knew that they had a Senator named Obama.

The fact that the drive by media with their rabid, lunatic fringe base of progressive's hate Cruz means that he's at the very least, a good man who loves the U.S.A. and fiscally responsible.

It was highly fiscally irresponsible to oppose raising the debt ceiling.
