Those shepards must have been pretty clever to compose a unified book over 1,500 years, by 40 authors. http://www.angelfire.com/sc3/myredeemer/Evidencep3.html

You are aware it wasn't just 'ignorant shepherds' (Let me guess, they're ignorant because they believe in God, right?), but kings, generals, doctors, and prime ministers who wrote the Bible, inspired by God, right?

Are you familiar with the "Left Behind" series?
    I just bet you are.
These fit in to some people's interpretation of Revelation. Does it make them true, or is it possible to write something with the express purpose of fitting in to something that was written in the past?

Uh...who wrote the Bible(s) you know?

"That summer, 318 bishops from across the empire were invited to the Turkish town of Nicea, where Constantine had a vacation house, in an attempt to find common ground on what historians now refer to as the Arian Controversy. It was the first ever worldwide gathering of the Church.

The Christianity we know today is a result of what those men agreed upon over that sticky month, including the timing of the religion's most important holiday, Easter, which celebrates Jesus rising from the dead."

Sorry, but this is simple history....and though you may not recognize it....fact!

Nonsense, http://www.gotquestions.org/Constantine-Bible.html Nicea, didn't invent anything, it codified what had long been believed in the face of heresies.

    Your own link says this:

"While the Council of Nicea had important consequences, its significance has been exaggerated into legend by a few conspiracy theorists, documentaries and books such as Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code," historians say.

Contrary to popular belief, the council had nothing to do with selecting which verses and gospels would be included in the Bible, nor whether Christianity agreed or disagreed with the concept of reincarnation. Bishops did not burn books they deemed heretical there either, historians say."

I've heard of that series, but wouldn't waste my time reading it as I don't believe in the Rapture. That idea didn't come about until the 1800s.

I know you love to pick at Obama.
His presidency was the result of a vote, which he won quite decisively.
Do you think the right decision was reached?

You just keep digging deeper. I never said that either. You asked me where Jesus supported anti-semitism, I provided you with a verse, and then you started accusing me of saying that criticism meant that people should be exterminated. It made no sense; it was and still is a random, out of left field assertion.

What did I need to be clearer about? It isnt my fault you get confused and irrational by reading my posts.

How was it a clarification? You accused me of saying something I didn't say based on your weird interpretation of what I did say. And I did have to go back that far since you stopped responding after I asked you to back up your assertion.

Just like he has stopped responding now, and stopped responding when we had a conversation about Nobel Laureates who were believers.
    He does this alot.

Since you made this up this falsehood about me equating these, and have thoroughly demonstrated you have no intention of ever taking responsibility for yourself, we will have to go with deliberate. You do this on purpose.

Worthy only of contempt and being ignored from here on,

OK then it is now your claim that the Bible was not inspired in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM by god. It was ACCORDING TO YOU the writings of people thousands of years ago with all the primitive superstition and ignorance that goes along with that. Fine then I will have to insist that you stop acting like it is anything more than that.

Personally I think you made the better choice between the two options because the alternative is that the god (who came up with all those rules about killing your own children if they don't behave and hating gays and all that) is a completely psychotic monster.

Well this is a big day for you then Paul7. You finally figured out that the Bible is ignorant. I've been trying to get that out of you for more than 700 posts now. But better late than never. You should do something really special for yourself to celebrate your new found awareness. Go and have a nice dinner with family and friends and celebrate. Then sit down alone for about a month and reconsider how this will change your life since you have finally accepted that there is NOTHING other than primitive superstition in that book you thought so highly of.''

There is something so familiar about your observations.

Its interesting to note that our xtians here cant find anything to criticize in atheists or science without making things up, and, that they can speak so falsely, so often, with no sign of conscience.

Because he Is blinded by his ardent evangelism, just like his adversary.
    Good for you, taikoo.
In spite of being philosophical allies, essentially, you can't give a pass to poor argumentation just because of that.

Why would Christians criticize atheists or science?

sheesh, I dont accept him as an ally. No more than a respectable xtian would
accept Dr Dino as an ally.

His complete misrepresentation, reversal really, of what P7 said
is just the kind of thing that I complained of P7 doing with my words.

You mean, surely, "Why do they?" (some of them, "they" does not mean "all")

    And surely you know.

Some do.. but I think most Christians have more sense than to play critical parent.

I hope you are right, but the stats in the USA suggest that most do think there was really a noahs ark and that science is wrong on that one.

Maybe, but a case for the opposite could be made very easily.
Fundamentalism in the Abrahamic faiths is on the rise globally.
In Texas textbooks are under attack. Overseas gays are under attack based on faith with legislation being brought to persecute them. This section of PF would close if believers and non-believers didn't constantly attack each other. Westboro is alive and well. Abortion doctors get murdered.
    And so on.
What you suggest describes an ideal, but I'm not sure it describes reality.

I haven't seen the stats... but I would suspect that the evangelicals and fundamentalist would have the loudest opinions. Look at the television preachers.. Just about all of them are under the influence of Dallas Theological Seminary or the Moody Bible Institute.

This is true, but the majority of Americans who claim to be Christian don't attend church or really engage in critical consideration of it and simply go with what they hear most often. That makes those loudly squeaking wheels more influential than the size of their congregations might indicate, and they are plenty large already.
