I came across an interview with Hersh that I found really interesting and wanted to share.
For those who don't know him Seymour Myron "Sy" Hersh is an American investigative journalist and political writer, he first gained recognition in 1969 for exposing the My Lai Massacre and its cover-up during the Vietnam War, for which he received the 1970 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting. In 2004, he notably reported on the US military's mistreatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib prison. He has also won two National Magazine Awards and five George Polk Awards. In 2004, he received the George Orwell Award.

So I had to go see Sonny Mehta [at Knopf], who paid me a lot of money for that Cheney book....and I was told within two months not to put anything in the computer by somebody who was still inside working for Cheney. And I said, “Oh, god.” I said, “Don’t worry about it. I’m not going to connect it to the internet.” He says, “You’re not listening to me.” I said, “No. ****ing. Kidding.” The guy said I couldn’t protect him.
    ...
Even though he’s not in office, Dick Cheney remains a threat to your sources?
    Yeah. Directly.

There’s [an Agency] guy; I was screaming at him once about ****ing up the FBI after 9/11. And he said to me, “Sy, you don’t get it. The FBI catches bank robbers and we rob banks.” I thought to myself, ****! That’s just exactly right. They’re criminals, what the CIA does. It’s all criminal activity.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
In the book I’m writing, I can segue into this stuff; I’m writing a lot about what was going on in the FBI. There was a lot going on that was counter-Trump, I will tell you that. I’m telling you, it’s the missed story of all time.

It enforces my vision that all state info agencies are criminal secret societies. My opinions were also shaped by knowing a spy IRL, I can post additional details if someone is curious. I also got an offer, digged into, got shocked and refused.

Instead of whining about their hidden criminality and power, do you think it is possible to 'regulate' or prosecute agencies like MOSSAD, CIA, KGB?

If you could regulate them they wouldn't be effective.

The people they battle aren't regulated.

If you want them to be successful then let them do their job and prosecute them when things get so out of control its obvious.
