While Fox seems to be the leading distributor of false information, other cable news networks are not far behind. It is not surprising, then, that people continue to believe the falsehood that Planned Parenthood chops up little babies and sells the parts for profit. Over all three networks, Media Matters identified 796 statements over the studied 14-month period containing misinformation and 288 statements containing accurate statements about the same topics. People who identified as anti-choice or who mostly or consistently cited anti-choice statements were responsible for 61 percent of inaccurate statements about one of the four types of misinformation as compared to 3 percent from those who identified as pro-choice or who mostly or consistently cited pro-choice statements.....
Most of the "pro-life" movement is based on dishonesty, Grannie. They know that if they state their goal of a total ban on abortion, even for the life of the woman, they lose politically. They know they can't say HOW they'd enforce such a ban....because it would make them look like the Taliban...and again, they'd lose politically. They try to convince people that "most abortions" are late-term abortions (6th, 7th, 8th month)......which is a flat-out LIE. They try to convince people they do NOT want to ban contraception as well....but then they oppose any attempt to expand contraception coverage or reduce costs or increase access. And on a basic level, they LIE when they say they "do not want to control women"....since that is the essential part of banning or restricting abortion.
I don't know, Grannie. The only thing I can think of is to encourage a lot more women to "come out of the closet" and talk frankly about their abortions and why they had them. Given that a large percentage of women will terminate a pregnancy in their lives (in Britain it's 1 in 3), then it's obviously something that is importantto most people. If we ourselves haven't had an abortion, then it's likely our sisters, Mothers, Aunts, friends and so on have had one. Speak up and shout the anti-choice brigade down.
I don't know...we're dealing with people who don't know the difference between born and unborn, people who think abortion is murder unless it was due to rape and then it's magically not murder...and people who don't know words like consent and choice.......education has definitely failed some...
