Should executive privilege apply to Trump's tax returns?

The salient point is it doesn't.

I understand you have gulped down all the excuses and talking points. No need to repeat them.

What hidden fact are those that you think will be discovered that IRS hasn't? You have to admit, the whole thing seems a bit odd!

Not. True! His tax returns will show where his money went, including important leads to any possible money laundering. It can reveal pay-offs. It can reveal whether Russia compromised him and has him over a barrel.

His strenuous efforts to stop his tax returns from being examined very strongly suggests that he knows they contain some devastating information, and the question is why you and the rest of his defenders don't want to know whether he is a criminal needing to be thrown out of office two years ago or not. You are all trying to protect him and anything he may be guilty of.

Every Democratic President since Carter has freely released their tax returns. So have all GOP Presidents. Trump is evidently concealing this info because he thinks it will make him look bad. He has repeatedly said he would release this info since he started running for President in 2015. I guess his pattern of lying and obfuscating doesn’t bother you because he happens to be a Republican at this time. If he ran and won as a Democrat you and your buddies would be screaming bloody murder.

Expected is not required. Words matter.

It is not a matter of 'hiding' anything.... and carrying over from a previous thread, no 'you' will not see the returns unless Trump gives express permission in writing that they can be publicly released, regardless of which taxing authority turns them over to a review. Small legal technicality.

You may believe whatever you like, but the truth of the matter is, for all his arrogance, Trump is not stupid.

You haven't answered the biggest question yet either! What do the leftist think they will accomplish with Trumps returns that the IRS didn't?

Democrats do not even try to hide the reason for the requests. Sheer hate of Trump and they are willing to terminate rights guaranteed by the constitution.

What is funny or ridiculous is that if the present president had been Hillary, they would scream like banshees that others submitting a IRS form to the scrutiny of the entire public by others does not mean the citizens rights can be ignored.

Say you tell your family how you were charged for rape and found not guilty. That does not end your right of privacy. It is not a blanket permit to disclose private issues with others.

First, you naively assume the tax returns are accurate. Second, you assume the IRS goes through them with the kind of forensic examination the experts Congress hires will. So no, it isn't odd.

And, just as importantly, this is about not allowing a prez to deny the execution of a right Congress possesses by law.

If nothing else it would expose how rich people are able to avoid paying taxes while the middle class keep getting screwed.

What they cant get thru to their brain is the IRS and Trumps returns are not going to accomplish anything legally.. I'm perplexed as to what they honestly think is hidden in returns that have been scrutinized by a team of IRS specialist that LIVE to take down guys like Trump!

I don't assume anything I simply go from history and the actions that the IRS has levied against Trump over the last 20 years of audits. The leftist on the other hand think they have better scrutinizers sitting in the houses like Hank Johnson and Pudloadcy..

I guess you think you scored a point or something. I don't give a rat's butt if the public sees the returns. In all likelihood they won't. But Congress will if a court order is complied with.

    And BTW,

N.Y. state Senate passes bill allowing Congress to get Trump tax returns

Clearly we have posters who have filed their own income tax returns but never tried to get others tax returns. The IRS has express forms to sign that allow said returns to be sent to one party only. If you agree with me to have your IRS forms sent to me, it does not give me a right to disclose your returns to others.

Also there is a myth that criminal elements are on tax returns. What happens is that if you admit to the IRS you committed a crime, they have the duty to assess you unpaid but due taxes.

I know of a case where a man embezzled from a company and decided to pay taxes on the embezzled money. The IRS accepted the tax payments yet had no power to inform other government agents.

A good move by citizens is to take at their local community the tax course taught at college. You might be surprised what you will learn.

In my official capacity, at times I have obtained tax returns but only when the clients signs a IRS form that lets IRS disclose to me. It is standard in mortgage practice for borrowers to give express permission for such documents. But if the client says no, one may not obtain the returns.

Even so, how often does the higher courts reverse such laws?

If you have a problem with the Tax Code, take it up with the IRS.

Do you take advantage of every possible legal deduction to reduce your tax liability? Why should it be any different for someone else? You do, of course, understand that dollar for dollar, most wealthy people pay more in various income type taxes in year, then most people pay during half their working lifetime....

And "HOW MUCH" that's important to you personally? People like Trump took advantage of laws that were passed by Dem and Repibs it's just that simple! If your really that interested in those loopholes find a good broker and tax firm. Other than that all you have is voting out those rich folks in Washington that like to see themselves and us keep more of our money then males it in to the hands of nonproductive people that don't contribute..

You are the one who thinks there is something to be gained, while speaking incorrectly. 'Congress' will not see them, a Committee will.

You've posted that link before, for the little it is worth. Don't stroke out over it.

My own son sold his home for close to one million dollars but come tax time and he also had to roll in his high income and paid heavy taxes on both due to the sale of the home. He is now retired but he got jacked up something awful as a normal run of the mill taxpayer. By high income, I do not mean millions, but in the range of 90 k to 100 k.

Hmmmm. I would have to look on the nuances of that, before agreeing. I was thinking more along the lines of coercion.

Not even a witch hunt, it's like looking in a EMPTY box that's been searched 20 times by a firm that specializes in box searches and then expecting to find something they didn't :)

    Hilarious
