Yes, but IMHO that's only if the U.S. Constitution says that only Christians can hold such positions.
All religions should be barred. atheists only, should hold government offices/. You are elected to serve the people, not your favorite sky daddy.
Tough, Ms. Atheist, religionists rule, atheists drool. Funs aside, the Constitution prevents what you want, yasureoktoo.
No. I'm fine with the current wording, within the 1st Amendment, which allows Muslims to hold elective governmental offices.
Forum Democrats always say that this is a predominately right to far right sight, filled with racists, homophobics, and Islamaphobics. At this point, the poll has it 79% yea and 21% nay for Muslims in government. And on the Jussie Smollett (black homosexual leftist) thread, the majority favored a light to medium sentence for his list of anti right wing crimes. So anyway, I guess this all sort of proves us not the monsters we are accused of being. And that these casual polls might be a salve, to break the fever of fear stoked by the media and foreign actors, who'd love nothing more than the disintegration of American society into massive conflict and easy pickings for the leisure pleasure of power hungry opportunists.
I believe that most conservatives are hard working decent people. I do not think that most conservatives think most liberals are good hard working people however. But sadly, its the voices on the far extreme right who have control of the conservative movement now. No longer can the GOP be considered the party of fiscal responsibility. So, without that message, what do they have left? Mostly social justice causes mostly IMO. Which is where they get demonized the most.
Someday; not in the near future; there will be no motivation from fear, pain, and death... only inspiration from love, compassion and understanding. To which will this question from the OP drive? We can only hold ideals until we are dust, it is the generations that carry our experiences... and we have done very poorly so far in broadening our horizons. We remain in cliches, boxes, borders, and in denial, that everything we think we should hold so dear now will always change in the future... ...what future will we leave behind? One of motivation, or one of inspiration?
So what should happen to an American citizen who converts to Islam then? Should he immediately loose some of his rights?
Based on what? Do you wish to remove Freedom of Religion in America? Also, to note. I dont think you actually believe that, and are just a troll.
So you dont believein freedom of religion, and would want that struck down. That is the only logical viewpoint one can derive from your statement.
I think we should revisit exactly what makes a religion. Theoretically anyone who feels they have been called on by God, can start a religion. However if my new religion is based on killing you and your family, I don't think that should be allowed. But hey, you might.
Well said! Not to stray from topic, but likewise for the over zealous in every sect. Our inalienable rights as equals in liberty, and as further elaborated in the Constitution are imo a miracle of self governance and civility.
All the major religions have violence and mass killings in their history. There is always someone who interprets the "will of god" to be a license to kill the non-believer.
The only ones I can think of is Judism and Islam. And the Jews have long ago dismissed their stories of 3000 years ago. Islam has orders for today and tomorrow.
Then you've forgotten about 2,000 years of war in Europe. Protestants vs. Catholics. The Papal Wars. Napoleon was crowned Holy Emperor by the Church before he went to war. Christians vs. Baptists. Christian vs. Mormons. Catholic vs. Calvinists. Catholics vs Lutherans. Lots of blood-shed.
1st Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof
