That charge has been dropped. Until there's a new indictment, that charge will remain dropped.

An anonymous jury. What new innovations will "Our Democracy" borrow from totalitarian regimes I wonder?

In 2016, when Democrats were caught totally by surprise by the Trump win, they moved to the next step in the process which was the electoral college. There were all manner of opinion columns urging the electors to change their votes and many of them had death threats. I'm going off memory here, but one of the electors, in Texas I believe, turned out to be a Hillary ringer and voted for her in the electoral college. It turned out he had worked for a company owned by a Van Jones, a Democratic Strategist.

So... if in an election that Democrats thought they had no chance of losing they had one ringer, how many would they have if they thought the opposition could actually win. As we know, the GOP is too stupid to actually vet it's electors so they could easily be caught by surprise in December when the electoral college actually votes.

It's a tricky situation, weighing what is good for the integrity of the justice system against the politics of it.

My view is that the justice system should ignore the politics and treat everyone the same. History will look favorably on that stance, once it is understood, in hindsight.

Your 'wonder' is more like 'flounder'.

Because protecting jurors from unscrupulous criminal defendants would be in keeping with justice & fairness and protecting the citizenry and the integrity of the justice system, and thus, democracy.

They are arguments. If you disagree, state your counter argument, that's the whole point. DEBATE.

My gawd, it's not rocket science.

Nothing ever should be based on political considerations except for running a campaign for election to office. Politics is humanity at its worst. That Trump was indicted in the first place was also based on political considerations.

    Please substantiate your claim.

I say you are wrong, because:

    Garland is a centrist.

Garland has defended Trump twice in court.

Garland's DOJ have prosecuted a number of Democrats.

Garland continues to allow his boss's son to be investigated and indicted.

Now, what compelling evidence do you have which will counter the above?

Yes nothing says democracy like an anonymous jury system. Soon to be joined with anonymous prosecutors. I assume the actual laws will be anonymous next.

Is Trump intimidating anyone, or are you just blaming him for what other, unknown people are doing?

Too, late - DOJ is more political than judicial lately.

And make sure he is held to account for the ongoing legal issues.

Anyone that claims his legal issues are purely pollical...... or motivated that way are just using Trump's talking points. His verbal nastiness to the legal staff is uncouth, and has no place in a civilized society. He can't face his role as a defendant. A tole that he created all by himself. Wonder if he would let any Dem get away with his atrocious actions and verbosity. Of course not. He and his ilk are prepared to fabricate issues to demonize Biden. He talks are bringing back law and order. Why does he not demonstrate by example?? He is doing his best to fracture the legal system with his actions and vitriol. And all because he BELEIVES he is the exception to the rule / law. That is the mental state of delusions of grandiosity. . His rage is excessive , considering he denies guilt, and prefers the victim role. His supporters actively reinforce his delusions. One can only hope that the systems ( democratic and legal) can withstand this persons damage.
On top of al that he talks like an IDIOT., in simplistic slogans and phrases. The man has needed Psych help for a very long time. Because he is rich... he has been given the pass as being "acentric" and "unique" "different" ( and other euphemisms) in his ways.

Oh please, it's like, are you paying attention?

What, you think Merchan is making sh*t up?

    https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/29/politics/federal-judge-donald-trump-rebuke/index.html

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...nged-judges-trying-to-rein-him-in/ar-BB1kXF0q

“The average observer, must now, after hearing defendant’s recent attacks, draw the conclusion that if they become involved in these proceedings, even tangentially, they should worry not only for themselves, but for their loved ones as well,” Merchan wrote. “Such concerns will undoubtedly interfere with the fair administration of justice and constitutes a direct attack on the Rule of Law itself.”

“It is no longer just a mere possibility or a reasonable likelihood that there exists a threat to the integrity of the judicial proceedings. The threat is very real. Admonitions are not enough, nor is reliance on self-restraint,”

Defendant knows what he is doing, and everyone else does too. And we all know exactly what defendant intends because he has said for decades that it is part of his life philosophy to go after his perceived opponents ‘as viciously and as violently’ as he can,” prosecutors wrote.

And you don't know what Trump is doing? Amazing.

As long as the goal is not only keeping Trump out of the white house but getting rid of him, his family, and close associates and sup[porters entirely -- and it is, like any half-way decent purge -- and you have no inhibitions or limitations from the rule of law and the constitution, per-trial detention makes perfect sense.

I don't. But the United States is small bit by small bit becoming a little more Stalinist all the time.

I'm hopeful, but he will have a formidable task with all the barbarians at the gate.
