Should Tulsi Gabbard and Andrew Yang begin a whole new party?

Discussion in 'Elections & Campaigns' started by DennisTate, Oct 20, 2020.

?

You have three weeks to decide who to vote for?

  1. Every moment I can spare will go into getting Biden - Harris elected.

    2 vote(s)
    13.3%
  2. Every moment I can spare will go into getting President Trump and V. P. Pence re-elected.

    6 vote(s)
    40.0%
  3. I have to admit that promoting Gabbard - Yang is an interesting option indeed!

    7 vote(s)
    46.7%
  4. I am working for another team for President and V.P. both for 2020.

    0 vote(s)
    0.0%

There is evidence that the DNC may have destroyed themselves............ a lot can happen in USA politics in three weeks but it seems to me that Democratic Party supporters should at least consider their options.

One obvious option is to decide your actual vote at the last possible moment and invest part of your time and effort into setting up a whole new political party with Tulsi Gabbard for President and Andrew Yang for V. P.

You know what you will feel like if you work like a trooper for the next three weeks in support of Biden - Harris but....... if you became a major leader in a movement to catapult Gabbard and Yang into the office of President and V. P. for 2024........ then you would become something of a big fish in a relatively small pond.

    ANDREW YANG FOR PRESIDENT 2020

This could all lead to a massive movement of independent voters over the next three weeks.

I did like both of them. I'd support them in the future.

So do I... and I'm Canadian. Most of my time will go into promoting President Trump over the next three weeks but I will be putting this option out there for many reasons.

Here is a discussion that could potentially attract quite a few less than thrilled Democrats.

A challenge for Mr. Joe Biden from an aspiring Canadian politician....

If you are at all curious why a Canadian should be so concerned about the USA election you might find this kind of interesting.....

I am thinking of beginning a Facebook group and page dedicated to this idea
and I like the concept of linking all of this with a plan for greatly reduced hostilities between
    Palestinians and Israelis.

Sounds very similar to Bret Weinsteins #Unity2020 plan, the "Articles of Unity". He's been working on it for the last few months. His idea though was to pick a sensible moderate Republican and a sensible moderate Democrat for President and VP. After one term the VP would run for President and the President would run for VP. They would make all agreements a team effort and any "ties" would be decided by the person in the President's seat. He did want Andrew Yang as the Democrat, but couldn't get Yang's buy-in. It's too late to get on ballots, even as write-ins anyway.

Good idea though. I'm a 3rd party voter. The system is against outsiders messing with the establish though, which is why Trump is so hated. He's not in the club and the citizens weren't supposed to make the actual choice.

Twitter banned Weinstein's Articles of Unity account a few weeks ago without explanation. Getting too much popular attention I suspect.

But go for it! I expect we may have some new choices in 2024, but mostly driven on social media if anyone but the "approved establishment" overlords from the DNC/GOP oligarchs' club are allowed to speak freely four years from now. We may all be censored by then.

If I didn't think that your reply was exceptionally insightful I would not have quoted you in full over here:

I am thinking that by setting up a Facebook page and group perhaps tomorrow I can begin a Movement that could well take one to five percent of voters away from the Biden - Harris team over the coming three weeks.....
(God willing)... thus ensuring another four years of........ President Trump and V. P. Pence!

I definitely have to read up on... Bret Weinsteins Unity 2020 Movement.

Can you tell me of any group on the ballot that Gabbard and Yang might perhaps fit with?

and you are also quoted here.....

Well, you are too late for 2020. In most states, write-in votes get tossed in the trash unless the write-in candidate has filed to be an "official" write-in. In other words, there is usually a short list of "qualified" write-in names and you have missed the deadlines.

Secondly, Gabbard and Yang (or anyone else) would have to accept the nomination to be part of your new party. I don't think Weinstein had luck getting any enthusiasm from Yang to join the Articles of Unity Party this year. It's really too late.

If you want to put in a protest vote, pick a 3rd party off your state's ballot and check to see who may be qualified write in candidates as well. I am voting Trump this year (he is a protest vote against the establishment), but I've voted 3rd party the three previous elections and that was twice with eligible write-in candidates. I don't see the point in getting people to write-in Tulsi or Yang for President right now, since those votes will go directly in the garbage bin.

Here is Bret Weinstein talking mostly about Twitter censorship of his 3rd party idea, but he also outlines the Articles of Unity idea. I'll be watching the next couple of years to see if he follows through on it. I think it's a great idea.

Gabbard maybe could start a neophyte party but Andrew "If You Like Your Foreskin You Can Keep Your Foreskin" Yang doesn't add any mass to the effort.

That is an idea that has huge potential....... but I am partly going by a prediction by the gifted Kim Clement who seemed to predict that Trump would be President back around 2007.... I am not sure if this is where he spoke about a THIRD PARTY rising up... but it could be....

Was Kim Clement a genuine Christian Psychic?

Perhaps not Yang himself but his idea of a Basic Minimum Income... .combined with a reformation of USA Federal Reserve policy......... can lead to the paying off of the USA national debt.

I'm a hundred percent behind the idea of the third party but I'm about 2% behind the idea of spending every moment I can spare.

I'd donate $50 towards efforts to form an official independent 3rd party, but somebody else would have to do the work. I assume it would take Bezos type money to get the ball rolling down hill along with a spearhead candidate. I would like a 3rd party for house and senate races as well, but this would be a massive undertaking with even more massive downward pressure from the two parties and the media.

    Yes to this.

However I did my 3rd party vote in 16 and decided I'd not repeat that this time even knowing that my reasons are just as strong to do so.

You might want also to look at the competition of 3rd Parties already existing in the U.S.

Most people have heard of the Libertarian Party and the Green Party, because they do tend to get on state ballots, but that does not mean the starting a new party from scratch is a novel idea. There are literally dozens of registered 3rd parties in America today. Getting 2-3% of the popular vote, much less an actual movement of a plurality of people is an uphill battle.

I think that Sanders and Trump figured it out, as well as both Ron and Rand Paul, figured it out. It's easier to run as a Democrat or Republican, but both parties will actively try to squash any political ideas which do not "conform" to the platforms of the two major corporations we call "parties". Both Tulsi and Yang found that out this year, however they did get more national name recognition by running under the "Big Blue" umbrella.

3rd Parties may have more success going forward with technological advances and the rising popularity of podcasting. More people are not forming opinions from mainstream corporate news. Unfortunately, the social media (like Twitter) and video platforms (like YouTube) are also starting to de-platform political ideas which do not cohere to "The Agenda".

I like Gabbard and Yang, and I think America does too. If Gabbard would lighten up a bit on gun control, I'd love to vote for her in 2024.

This is the most ridiculous political suggestion I've ever heard. Where to start? First of all, those two ARE NOT ON ANY OF THE STATE BALLOTS. Maybe you are unfamiliar w/ how we do it in the States, but there's not one national ballot-- there are 50 state ballots (+ DC ). And there are requirements, & time limits to get on those ballots. It is too late now, to get on any of them. So what you are suggesting is a WRITE-IN CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT. As someone who has voted 3rd party for that post numerous times, with Ross Perot & then in Ralph Nader's multiple attempts, always arguing that the true waste of a vote is one cast for someone who doesn't truly represent you, instead of for the candidate you actually prefer, in this instance I'd call your suggestion an unequivocal case of vote-wasting.

Even after getting on all 50 state ballots, having the backing of established 3rd parties like the Libertarian & Green, or even, in Perot's case, making it onto the national debate stage w/ the major party candidates, & after, in all cases, an extended period of campaigning to both make one's ideas well-understood & to be vetted by the American people, Independent candidates have faced a steep climb & have usually not fared well. To do this at the last minute, w/ no preparation, & while not even having one's names appearing on any ballot, is as futile a, "campaign," as imaginable.

And this would be true even if Gabbard/Yang were running as a ticket, WHICH THEY'RE NOT! I could add my doubts about the concept that these 2 candidates share any significant similarities to warrant thinking they should be grouped together, or would even want to be running mates. But there is no point in having a serious, logical discussion w/ someone who lacks a credible sense of reality, so I will postpone that argument until you have withdrawn your support for the utterly absurd notion of attempting to ELECT, in the midst of the Presidential election which is currently already taking place, your proposed candidates, of this spur of the moment, newly-"created," third-party.

    @DennisTate

    The Greatest State of California,with
Winner Take All primaries & presidential votes to the Electoral College
    is bound to go Biden.

I did a Write in, "Tulsi Gabbard".

If there was a snow ball's chance in H*ll of a Trump
victory in California or proportional representation,
I would have voted Trump / Pence.

Gabbard, the only active military & deployed candidate
    was the only Peace Candidate!

I'll be a lot more open minded to policy change if they'd quit trying to take away my ability to shoot my way out of any holes that we vote ourselves too deep into. You folks want global technocratic authoritarian collectivism? I don't think its gonna work, but I'm game to try so long as we keep the reset switch known as the Second Amendment.

    Correct!

And as the sheer brilliance of what President Trump and millions of American voters just pulled off she will see that that is her obvious best option.

I am curious to see a credible estimate of the percentage of Republicans who voted, this election, for Biden. There does appear, however, to be much more philosophical diversity among Democrats than among Republicans. And the trough between Right wing and Moderate Republicans seems far narrower than that between what might be termed the focal crests of the Moderate & Left-wing Democrats. In truth, a far more representationally-accurate party configuration would be created if the smaller group of centrist Republicans peeled off to join the bulk of centrist Dems, and the leftist Democrats emigrated to their own, ideological homeland (which would then attract others, farther on the left, whose perspectives have kept them out of the mainstream Democratic Party; the Right-wing Republicans, since they already DOMINATE that Party, are less-likely to pick up significant numbers of voters of other, "far Right," political persuasions).

The dynamics working against this is are, for left-wing Democrats, their preference to try & sway the broader Democratic Party, from within, rather than hand all the reins of power over to Republicans, while relegating themselves to long-term minority-party status, in a three-party system. As for centrist Republicans, besides seeming less discontent in their circumstances, would be the liklihood that, on the whole, in a big-tent Democratic Party (barring the prior Exodus of the left-wing Dems), this would all but ensure their own personal defeats.

So, while frustrations on the left will feel palpable, until politicians on that cusp feel that their views have won favor with a large enough portion of the population, it seems this marriage will persist. Ironically, should the Left-wing find their ideas gaining that widespread appeal, they would, potentially, have become the majority part of the Democratic Party. That's the only way that I see a possibility of moderates from both parties coming together to form a Centrist Party.
