Should a woman who gets an abortion be eligible for the draft?

With all this modern talk about gender equality and possibly making women eligible to have to go to war, just like men, maybe we should consider this proposal as a sort of middle ground compromise.

Conservatives tend to believe women should not go to war. Progressives say they want to create absolute gender equality. Well, okay, what better way to send progressive women off to war while allowing conservative women to stay at home and do their pro-life gestational duties?

Conservatives tend to be reluctant about the idea of sending women off to war, since it could be dangerous for them. But, for women who've committed abortion, sounds like this could be just punishment.

If pro-choice women do not want to save the life growing inside of them, perhaps they can save lives in other ways.

the problem right now is so many men are not healthy enough to be drafted even if needed

No-one 'signs' up for the draft. That's a contradiction in terms.

 

You post is based on a logical fallacy i.e. that the only legitimate way anyone can act to 'save lives' is to volunteer for (presumably) front line duty in the armed forces. In reality countless men and women do this every day as part of their carers or indirectly as a result of those careers.

In your own country, every single day EMS workers (both male and female) do their utmost to save lives. As do Police Officers, Doctors and Nurses. There are thousands, if not millions of scientists, engineers and other specialists working as I write on projects that will 'save lives'. I could go on, but whats the point?

The point was, if females are going to made eligible for the draft, we could start with this group.
Rather than being an idea in favor of instituting a female draft, it was more of an idea for compromise and cutting back, if females were ever to be made eligible, and there was a big push towards that direction.

Besides, these days it's becoming much more common for fathers to take care of children instead of the mother.

Presumably women who've gotten abortions will statistically be likelier to have fewer children than those who haven't.

Oh, also one more little plus: if the woman gets raped on the battlefield getting an abortion won't be that big of a deal for her.

 

If we sent all the women who've gotten abortions off to Afghanistan, imagine how much of an improvement that could create for women's rights over there. It could benefit millions of women.

Well, why can't we have a compromise? Somewhere in between how things are now and how they "should be".

We don't have to only support proposals that we entirely agree with 100%.
We can also support proposals that, although we may not agree with them entirely, will get us closer towards where we want to go.

For those who believe "women should be eligible just like men", this proposal elaborated in this thread would probably be palatable to many conservatives and have an easier and more realistic chance of getting passed.

It's also fair, in a way. Women would be able to pick and choose which duties they wanted to fulfill.
We keep hearing from the pro-choice side "Men will never know what it's like to be a woman; this is a woman's issue". Well okay then, how about give these women a choice whether they want to be treated like a woman or treated like a man.

You're not able to see how, in the unfortunate event of something like a pregnancy resulting from sexual assault after being captured, that would be so much worse for them?
