Not as a 'business' as such, but she does sell things to friends and family (and their contacts). The trouble is that something of that quality takes alot of time, and that would have to be properly reflected in the cost if it were a business - people can find much cheaper ones that she'd be able to produce (often part machined - much quicker and easier to produce, and much cheaper, but much lower quality in terms of 'craftsmanship'). Like many things which are specialist 'craftsman' and/or 'artist' produced, there just isn't much market for it, or money to be made out of it, unfortunately - people are so tied up with looking at 'materials' costs of things that they won't take sufficient account of time to be willing to pay what such things are actually 'worth', and it's not worth producing and selling them if the time doing it isn't going to be paid for.

Seems like something that'd be great to sell on the internet. There are a lot of people who value craftsmanship over price. But you're right... ya can't put a price on the love & time an artist puts into their work.

It's just that I'm so sick of seeing things MADE IN CHINA, I'd be willing to pay premium price for something that wasn't mass produced!!

No more 'special departments' thanky. I'd just settle for being able to buy an American flag that isn't MADE IN CHINA.

Morning y'all...the only thing I can make worth giving away or selling are my soaps, and they're a lot easier to make than woodworking art. My hat's off to all of you who are so talented.

Smartie, you outdid yourself on the breakfast! LOL

    Mornin.

Them's some beautiful carvings Cenydd. Your girl is very talented. I admire people who create such works of art, and came across some wonderful pieces here, here, and various other places, but had never seen spoons like these.

The last time I priced cinnamon oil I put it back on the shelf...it is a bit pricey. Remember when things use to be inexpensive...ya'll do remember those days don't you? Course we aren't in a recession...silly me. When you luck up on a remembered price from the good ol days, you smile till you look at the weight contents. sigh..

The main thing to consider is the art in the piece. She could put a price on a piece and stick to her price. Someone, somewhere will pay the price and be happy with the price and the artwork. Her pieces are unique and one of a kind.

Hiya, Kimi! Glad you appreciate the effort I went thru for breakfast... I'm quite the lil cook! :-D

How's things in the beautiful Ozarks this morning? Got rain... or snow?

It's been raining for 2 days here... nice soaking rains. Cold today (40's) but up to 65 tomorrow... then plunging temps again.

Geesh, wish it'd make up it's mind!

It's supposed to start raining mid-day today and the temps are about normal right now...40's and 50's. We haven't had any snow to speak of this year, which is fine by me, really. Unless it closes the university for a few days, then it's okay...

She does have things I guess some might consider 'bad points', too! She doesn't do 'girly' or 'fashion' at all, owns no make-up, dresses, skirts, or shoes that aren't trainers (and she's only got 2 pairs of them - a new pair and an old pair!). She isn't exactly a 'social' animal either - she don't do 'people' at all! She's happiest either at home carving, reading a book or watching a film (horror, sci-fi, that kind of thing), or out in a quiet pub with as few people as possible in it (and is a fellow real ale drinker - in pints, of course!), or at a heavy metal gig or festival. Perfectly suited to me, obviously (we're best friends as well as being 'together', if you see what I mean), but I'm sure not some people's idea of how a 'proper girl' should be (she doesn't tend to get on very well with 'proper girls' either - she has no interest in, or patience for, the gossipy stuff and talking 'girly things')!

We've been together 6 years, and have a house, 2 dogs, a rat and a snake together - she's not going anywhere, and neither am I! Well, apart from the pub for a pint or 3 later maybe, to sample whatever guest ale(s) they have in (it was 'Wandering Beacons' from the Brecon brewery on Sunday, but might well have changed now), but that'll be both of us together as usual!

I bought a new Hamilton Beach hand-held blender at Walmart last week. It was made in China and distributed from HB's distribution center in Canada.

Guess we should be happy Walmart got a little piece of the pie.
