No, not at this point....If things look really bad, we can always leave. Look, our house is on a very big wide gradual hill. It's custom built very strong with 3/4" marine plywood. Not a speck of particle board anywhere.

It's built "Hatteras" style to withstand hurricanes. I'm not worried.

Now someone pass me some crepes and a mimosa...

Smartie, at noon today it is only 87!!! wow, what a change.
There's even some rain clouds in the area, 10% chance something might actually drop!
I believe the Lake Travis Rain Dancers must be turning the trick, by Jove!

LOL, them dang nekkid hippies must've been dancing around here too, I actually SAW RAIN about 10 this morning! Didn't last long, but it did cool things off for a bit! Only 92 out there now. With 80% humidity. ugh.

Glad you got some relief, Gypz -- hope it sticks around longer than ours did!

    Church Ladies With typewriters.

They're Back! Those wonderful Church Bulletins! Thank God for church ladies with typewriters. These sentences (with all the BLOOPERS) actually appeared in church bulletins or were announced in church services:

The Fasting & Prayer Conference includes meals.

    --------------------------
The sermon this morning: 'Jesus Walks on the Water.' The sermon tonight: 'Searching for Jesus.'

    --------------------------
Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husbands.

    --------------------------
Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community. Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say 'Hell' to someone who doesn't care much about you.

    --------------------------
Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help.

    --------------------------
Miss Charlene Mason sang 'I will not pass this way again,' giving obvious pleasure to the congregation.

    --------------------------
For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs.

    --------------------------
Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.

    --------------------------
Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married on October 24 in the church. So ends a friendship that began in their school days.

    --------------------------
A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow..

    --------------------------
At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be 'What Is Hell?' Come early and listen to our choir practice.

    --------------------------
Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.

    --------------------------
Scouts are saving aluminum cans, bottles and other items to be recycled. Proceeds will be used to cripple children.

    --------------------------
Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person you want remembered..

    --------------------------
The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment and gracious hostility.

    --------------------------
Potluck supper Sunday at 5:00 PM - prayer and medication to follow.

    --------------------------
The ladies of the Church have cast off clothing of every kind. They may be seen in the basement on Friday afternoon.

    --------------------------
This evening at 7 PM there will be a hymn singing in the park across from the Church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin.

    --------------------------
Ladies Bible Study will be held Thursday morning at 10 AM . All ladies are invited to lunch in the Fellowship Hall after the B. S. Is done.

    --------------------------
The pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the Congregation would lend him their electric girdles for the pancake breakfast next Sunday.

    --------------------------
Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 PM . Please use the back door.

    --------------------------
The eighth-graders will be presenting Shakespeare's Hamlet in the Church basement Friday at 7 PM . The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy.

    --------------------------
Weight Watchers will meet at 7 PM at the First Presbyterian Church. Please use large double door at the side entrance.

    --------------------------
The Associate Minister unveiled the church's new campaign slogan last Sunday: 'I Upped My Pledge - Up Yours.

My sister lived in Gastonia, NC during Hugo and my nephew at that time was just a lil' guy. They were without power for 4 days. My mom was freaking cause the phone service was down and she couldn't get a hold of her to see if they were OK. She lives in Lancaster, SC now and they got their "just in case cause you never know supplies ready" I also have good friends through her that are in NC and her inlaws that concider me an inlaw in SC. I'm concerned about them all. Hope it passes you by!

I havent heard that 500 Miles song in such a long time. That is a great song, Cen. Thanks for playing it!
I've keyed in on accents from when I was a little kid. I grew up in an area with a whole aray of different accents from in the region and people from different countries. Its amazing when you really listen. Like a southern accent in North Carolina is very different than a southern accent from Louisiana or a Vermont accent is very different than a Massivetwo(*)(*)(*)(*)s accent. (I detest the Patriots and they are from Massivetwo(*)(*)(*)(*)s and its football season. lol) J-e-t-s..JETS, JETS, JETS.

I guess there is commercial appeal for a NewYork accent but I would much rather hear a musician own accent. Though I am always amazed when they can switch accents so easily.

I was afraid Irene might become a problem. They were saying it would around the time of the quake, possibly before. I heard it might go cat. 4 anytime soon, but it hasn't and I hope it never does. The way it's going now, North Carolina is going to get socked, one way or another. The least that could happen is Irene never reaches Cat. 4 strength. Why does the first (major) hurricane thus far have to be one with it's sights on land? Honestly, I'm hoping it'll be another Earl and end up missing at the last moment.

Nice to see ya, Indy! Always count on you to show up when there's a weather event!

Yeah, I hope it weakens and/or moves away from land. Scary stuff. Trinnity is riding it out in NC. We're all keeping our fingers crossed for her! :omg:

Strange weather in Dallas today. Thunder & lightning early, no rain... rained about 10 am for 10 min and it cooled down to the 80's. By noon the heat index was 106. By 4 pm, the actual temp was 106.

Blazing hot day in Big D. Can't wait til fall.

    Youtube comment:

Did anyone notice that most of the 80's music were about "Love" whereas now all the songs are about "Sex".

It's kind of sad but people are loosing the touch of of love.
