Were you ever lucky, except the driving in it part. You love snow and TX, and you got both.

Hah, I lied. Ike was in 2008. See, all that TX longing got me all confused.

Yeah, I got the best of both worlds..lol. We went out to eat and it started snowing while we were in the restaurant. Snow falling at night is beautiful. The next day snow was everywhere and so pretty.

Just got back from a week of clearing brush and mowing around pecan trees in E. TX, and had a family dinner at one of my favorite BBQ places---"the Purple Pig" along TX155 between Tyler & Frankston---great baby-back pork rib dinner with Shiner beer!!

Personally I kinda cotton that type food stuff.I like good Bread/pastry foods.
That is my weakness as taught from my Hero { My Grandmother }.
Who got up early every day and went to work as Boss of her Trucking Company.
She also was a daily communicant { 7 am Morning mass } and twice
weekly trips to her favorite pastry shop { Hough Bakery in E.Cleveland }.
I'm really disappointed that those type professional bakery shops
are a lost art.Fading fast due to Obama's war on anything individual
    and small business.

Your grandma sounds like she knew her business and what was good. Those old timers pretty much always did.

A good bakery in this day and age is very hard to find. Growing up there were many excellent bakeries in this area. Now maybe one or two Italian bakeries and one American style bakery. One of the Italian bakeries actually gets product from a larger bakery and their products are not baked fresh and on the premises. To me, that is not a bakery. If you walk in a bakery and don't smell fresh bread or that old school vanilla smell, walk out.

I think part of what killed bakeries is grocery stores with poser bakeries. Premanufactured pasteries they heat and sell, was a catalyst for a lost art or pastery baking. Baking pastries, good bread or even pizza dough for that matter is an art. Once you have had pastery from an outstanding baker you can instantly tell the difference. You are also right. The economy is also not a solid platform to starting small business in many fields. People are so use to premanufactured crap they are hesitant to spend a little more for quality in this economy. Unless you had something so special and the cost was in line with crap pastries.

$40 for a 10" Italian rum cake. $12 for a crap cake from the grocery store. That pretty much sums it up.

Every melting pot city had ethnic neighborhoods chock-filled with little
corner bakery shops and Butcher shops.
What happened was simple. The Blacks from the inner city migrated into
those ethnic neighborhoods and robbed them blind.I saw it firsthand in
Cleveland.Little ethnic neighborhoods with white picket fenced little yards
were robbed almost on a daily basis. The Ethnic folk were forced to leave their
little shops and homes. Some managed to stick it out until the entire blocks
    were one color.BLACK.
This ISN'T racism on my part. This is fact.

I grew up city. What you are describing is not what I have lived. Each culture brings with it its own qualities. Its not about color. Its about the neighbors all melding to form a community. Ive learned many different things from my neighbors along the way. Italian, Jamaican, Guatemalan, Portuguese, Brazilian and so on.

Well enough of this anyway. Back to the bakery. Smartie always stressed no politics in the bar. A smart move on her part.

So how have you been, Foolie. Life treating you good?

What ever happened to that dog that lived next door to you? The one you were trying to help out a while ago?

I can't complain. But what I wrote is Exactly what happened in Cleveland.
I realize that is seldom talked about nowadays. But growing up that was
a very big part of the ethnic community. In point of fact it was THE only thing
    often on the minds of the Ethnics like the Bohemian { Germans,Czechs,Hungarians }
The Polish in Cleveland managed to settle down and groom a way of life that
encompassed a very big swath of Cleveland { The West side }.
That Polish community still exists today, from what my neighborhood buddy tells me.
ALL other ethnic community have vanished from the face of the earth in
Cleveland. That is why sometimes you'll hear from those like O'Reilly
or *Bernie McGuirk { New Yorkers } who still faithfully stand by their old
neighborhoods. Those men of my age knew their neighborhoods storied past and
have the mettle to make sure they don't faulter and all go tumbling down like
    some Humpty Dumpty.
Our country is about to All Fall Down. That is why it is manifest to keep our
melting pot city's real history in tact and not forget.
The 4th of July isn't about Fireworks or outdoor weenie roasts.
    It's about the Country's Independence.
Lest we forget the lest we'll be able to enjoy a slice of what once was.
I say, remember for Old times' sake. For the sake of what came before us.
Screw this move Forward. To Lean Forward.
BTW ... how does a Populace lean forward being placed atop a
    3 legged dunce stool.

    * Producer of Imus in the Morning and regular on - Hannity -.
Sean Hannity is another loyal New Yorker who tries his best to
    keep a Neighborhood mentality.

We mostly play music for the dancers that visit every Saturday. Swing,
waltzes, rumbas, west coast swing, country, polkas and just about
anything anyone wants to hear for the most part.

Ingrid's is all over YouTube but the band isn't.

I'm really a jazzer but right now jazz has been slow, about 1 a month,
    and a classical player.

Srsly, I think that feature is only available to donors. Not sure, but I seem to remember that's how it is. I never think to look at it.
