finished the addition/ remodel a back in November, replaced every fixture, door window Refinished everything except the tile in th e LR and kitchen. replaced all the kitchen cabinets and added a huge granite counter top. BUT wifey wasn't finished, add deck out side the formerly spooky room (had added a sliding glass door were a window used to be, poured more driveway, built decks front and back on our B&B rental,

Now we are laying tile on the front and back porch of the house, AND we will be replacing and adding walls and retaining walls. I told Wifey we needed to spend all our savings while it was still worth something... she obeyed.

Just got round to watching this. It bought a tear to my eye and I'm not even American.
I used to be proud to be British, we had such a good name around the world for playing fair and standing up for justice. We've lost it all at the moment. Money is our new god and helping others is measured in political value rather than doing right.

Hope we get it back some day.

Wow, so much construction going on. The two best things about construction is starting and finishing. Nothing like standing back and looking at a finished project.

My dog is like the weatherman, he knows when bad weather is on the way. I asked my husband to check the weather and sure enough bad weather is in the future today. The dog is amazing.

Has anyone started their spring gardens? We had trouble last year finding some seeds, hope this year won't be a repeat of seeds being not available.

Has anyone seen Collateral Damage lately? I hope everything is ok with her. Not just her but all of the people that posted on this thread seem to absent. Where did everyone go?

Does seem pretty vacant in here lately. Partly my fault isn’t it. LOL

Haven’t started any garden but my wife’s thinking about it. Pretty early here yet.

Except for almost having one of my places burned up in a prairie fire the other day can’t complain. :)

Heading into the “busy” seasons. Getting a few calves.

I pop in to see your paintings. They are very good.

Oh my goodness, You read about these fires but you don't imagine the real folks on the receiving end. Did you lose anything (apart from sleep)
Massive fire driven by high winds and unusually dry weather according to Aol.
    Is that effecting your crops/grassland?

    Thanks, re my paintings.

Sorry to hear that 557, we could use a good fire, but there is not much to burn.
we used to have interest around Hereford..
Dawn to be specific, but that been years past now.

You couldn't start a grass fire around here without petrol.
We've had three times the average rainfall for February. The farm is a quagmire.
Paul hasn't started a tractor in over a month.

Fortunately the fire was stopped a few miles from my place. It was nearing sundown and the wind went down. Prior to that the fire was moving at 40 mph so if the wind hadn’t gone down when it did it probably would have reached us.

My wife evacuated animals with the help of neighbors while I started the center pivot irrigation system on the upwind side of that property and came back to our home place to get the disk. The neighbor’s crop field that was also on the upwind side of our place was disked last fall so that would have helped.

Between the running pivot and the neighboring field being disked we had a good chance of saving that house and the animals anyway, but didn’t want to take a chance. A lot of draft horses etc. on that place.

Our pastures up there would have burned but nothing you can really do about that and there are no cows on them now anyway.

We actually have good soil moisture levels here. Had a good bit of moisture last fall as well as over the winter and spring. It’s just the still dormant dry grass that is the problem. And the wind. Nebraska is almost always windy. The old timers came up with the adage “Kansas sucks and Wyoming blows” to describe the phenomenon. :)

Wow that was close. How on earth you move all your animals out the way of a fire storm like that I do not know. Have you had this before? is it a regular thing?
As Monte says England is under water at the moment especially the fens where I live. The big land pumps can't keep up with the rain. Farmers are worried it wont dry up in time for planting. Mostly spuds and wheat. but many other veg as well.
In 2022 we had this, tons of winter rain followed by almost non all summer very poor crop yields.

    @Montegriffo,

Three times average is a lot I’m guessing. Isn’t February a wet month anyway?
