That's terrible! Im glad you're getting better but that sounds horrible. Listen to those doctors and rest. Back problems are nothing to fool around with.

We were getting concerned because we havent heard from you. Thanks for stopping in and Otimer..take it easy for God sakes!

We just walked out of the Automobile Bldg and my g/f said, "Look Big Tex is on fire!" There was a small flame coming out around his collar. We stood right there and watched him burn to the ground. Most surreal thing I've ever witnessed. People were just standing around stunned... everybody had their cameras out and weren't even talking! By the time the fire truck got there, nothing left but his frame and arms. They blocked off that part of the fairgrounds and we had to walk all the way around the Cotton Bowl to get a corny dog! Brought in a crane, and by the time we left, there was nothing left but a concrete square where he's stood for 60 yrs!

Too sad. Whatta way to start your day at the fair!!

I know. It's symbols like Big Tex that are being openly attacked.
I hope it was some malfunction not any concerted plot to bring down a
    symbol for texans.
Does anyone have any idea what started the fire.

Ill be honest. One of the first things I thought was man the kids there must have been freaked out bad. Then I thought of you being there and a corndog. You are Texas and for you to be there must have been hard to see. Course I had to ask Kimi if it was appropriate to tease about it. lol Just sayin to keep it real. I wont tease. I know the statue had meaning.
Sorry it burned and so sorry you had to be there to see it. But think about it like this. Seein as how you are Texas and all it was fitting you were there and when he is redone and unveiled you need to be there too.

    How was the corn dog?

    Bein' a respectful Yankee chick.

I've had to make light of it myself... prob to keep from crying!! I jokingly asked if anybody had heard when the memorial service would be held... and sure 'nuff... people are putting flowers and candles where he stood for 60 yrs.

    ~sniffle~

We've been assured Big Tex will be back bigger and better next year.

WAHHHHHHH, I don't wanna new Big Tex I want the old one back!!!!

(Foolie, they think it was an electrical short. They had been having issues with the 1952-type technology that made his lower jaw open and close. One newscaster said, "Well, he was 60.. that's what happens when we get old. We burst into flames!)

It was awful, CC! But it happened so fast, he didn't have time to suffer much. I'll be burning a candle for him tonight. :(

Good morning guys. Good wishes for a nice weekend.

I'm sorry to read of the unfortunate incident with Big Tex. I'm confident a grand replacement will once again grace the fairground, to welcome visitors.

Thankfully, no one was injured (or worse) by it falling to the ground or whatever. :floating:

Sorry Smartie, but so happy that you are okay. ~ *hug*

Hmmm...Does this sound a little suspicious to anyone else?

Sit down and put a floodlight in your face for a minute. I have a couple of questions.

Whats the ingredients to prepare a corn dog?
Were you in Texas, at a concession stand, cooking anything, on the 19th of October?

    hahahaa, you goofus!

    Also...

    LOL@"big assed trouble"

When I first read that, I thought 'what the hell?' ~ I had not see or heard of the fire. And first thought was, that's it! I'm taking my pretty ass over Falena's house and straighten this out right now! :giggle:

Unfortunate to have lost a Texas icon I suppose, but I'm relieved it didn't fall and hurt anyone.

    Ahahahahaha!
You just had to know it was coming.
I mean Big Tex bursts into flames and YOU were nowhere to be seen. All that and the fact where theres smoke you're probably around cooking.

Glad that OT is alive and well. We missed you OT, and hope you will be ready for a couple of feet of the white stuff soon. If not.....

train 'em while they are young.

    Snow on Christmas will do.

Soooooooooo, anyone reckon if they had snow in Texas than smokey's damage would have been to a minimum? Hey, what can I say. Gotta spin this while it lasts.

    Mornin all.

Why would you bother training dogs to do that - leave the snow where it is, and train 'em to do this:

Well, that implies that OT must train his wife to mush...and get to work on time.
