Congrats, you are 'hopelessly' a TEXAN!! [IMG]

Even your 'red' responses validate your Redneckness....you are hereby awarded the "Yee-Haw" Award, and can officially use phrases like: 'fixin to,' and 'might could be'...

Muleshoe is just a small farm town..I picked up a 45K-lb load of bulk-bagged soy beans there when truck driving out of Phx...was very forgettable!

Did you ever make it to Green Valley Raceway near Ft. Worth. When I was in HS, after the scheduled drag racing was over, the avg Joe could pay $5 and run his personal 'hunk of junk' against some one of the same class---was usually a Ford vs. a Chevy. No $, just grudge matches....

Been gone from there (except for occasional visits with family who still live there) for many years and have lost much of my accent. The last 3 yrs I lived there it was in W. Tex (Seminole), and I've got video tape of myself and my 2 kids (around 8 & 10 yo at the time), and you wouldnt believe the accents we had---my kids (now grown and have lived in CO & AZ since) laugh it up when I play it.

Funny thing is, that when I occasionally drove truck back to TX after being away for many years, just stopping and talking with the fast food/convenience store folks, brought it 'rat back!'

You remembered the 'excited radio commercial'--must have heard it a 1000 times.

Heard of Yellow Belly, but never there---do you remember Dallas International Speedway near Lewisville that went defunct--been there!

That's so true. I notice that about myself, and I still have my accent. But, it gets a lot more drawl to it after I've been home for a couple of days.

After driving the lower 48 states and parts of Canada, TX still has the friendliest ppl.....their slow accent shows their closeness to rural upbringing and that they take time when communicating with other folks, esp strangers....[IMG]

My favorite is when the family goes to Vegas and we're all sitting around the same blackjack table. The dealer will invariably ask, "What part of Texas are you folks from?"

People here are definitely friendly... especially outside the big city. However, I was driving home from work the other day and when I turned into my neighborhood, passed an elderly man driving a pickup truck and he waved. Luv it. ;)

I absolutely agree with. I always know I'm near home when people start getting friendlier....that, and the West Texas "howdy" wave from the other cars you meet on the highway.

Yeah, the big cities (Dallas, Houston, and Ft. Worth becoming more so) are probably 50% out-of-staters---remembered when I lived there, there were many "I HEART NY" bumper stickers on the road. And following that group of stickers came the retaliatory bumper stickers of "Love NY? Take I35 North."

Here is an early territorial map of Texas that I razz my native CO born S-I-L with...keep telling him that 'one of these days' Texas is going to reclaim its 'orig boundaries'...CO is just part of the TX 'panhandle'..[IMG]

That's cool. I've got a map of Texas from the 1800's, can't remember the exact year. It needs to be framed, and I have yet to do that. It's cool to look at and find the names of towns.

I remember after leaving TX for CO in 1986 (30% unemployment in the W. TX oil patch), there was a large migration of ppl to the state of CO. This prompted locals to start displaying bumper stickers that looked like CO lic. plates saying "NATIVE"..

following those came "BY CHOICE" etc., even "BORN AGAIN".....finally got to blows with some liKe "WHO CARES" followed by "I CARE"......[IMG]

On a trip to Oregon once, I saw bumper stickers that said, "Enjoy our beautiful state! Then go home."

LOL, no sense beating around the bush!

Too long for a bumper sticker, how about: "Leave wallet. Bye"
