Someone just recommended a movie called Air, about Nike and Michael Jordan. I haven't seen it yet and am a little dubious, because it stars the obnoxious and untalented Ben Affleck. But I do like Matt Damon.

I used to wonder how these shoe companies could afford to offer so many pro athletes these mega shoe deals, but young males (maybe females, too?) collect shoes like some people collect jewelry or purses. Or coins and stamps, in my day (1000 years ago).

I once had a client living at home with his mom, and I went to his small house to see him. He must have had at least 100 pairs of sneakers in his size, most of them still in the box. They were neatly arrayed in his closet and all along the floor of the hallway. His mother kept them washed.

Was this kid typical? There must be lots of kids and 20 somethings like him buying every new shoe Nike comes out with for Nike to justify all the deals. And of course I see stories about gangs stealing other people's shoes after beating them up.
