I can see where a liberal and conservative could not be together. it's more than politics which makes you one or the other. It's how you view your individual role in society. Are you responsible and culpable for your self? Do you accept the responsibility of helping your own family including extended family or is that the role of the govt?

Very true. It's like the union guy I mentioned earlier. He married a gal who's always been very conservative and for many years, they cancelled out each other's votes in presidential elections. That all changed after Obama bailed out GM and therefore saved their backyard pool and hubby's new vette... she did an about-face and now has her hand out just like a good lil Democrat.

I dunno really. Like I said we don't discuss it much. I am sure he has his own opinions but he prefers to keep them to himself and that's quite fine with me. I get all my political venting out here and when I chat with my dad. =P

 

Agreed if you believe in a level social playing field you will not be compatible with someone who has the luxury of taking big risks for profits.

People who are individually personally responsible, would not get along with someone who believes government is responsible for their family and lives.

In this society the ideal mate is conservative minded in my opinion, because government has not done enough to make a good case for the other side.

That puts people like me in a predicament, I have no examples to show for the success of my political beliefs so I must conceal them in order to have the ideal mate in the opposite sex. This society still rewards conservative minded people and mates with a good foundation in conservative Christian beliefs are more likely to be suitable for a healthy, productive, and prosperous relationship. It's just not found in American liberals, but certainly in European liberals where they live in the ideal of a socialist/communist utopia.

Now if I were living in Europe, I wouldn't have to hide my pro government beliefs and could settle for a liberal mate freely, and openly.

I would not care if the person had views well seeded in logical reasoning. Or at least, she thought them through enough to support her claims. It sounds like in your situation you found that this person had a hard line very different from yours. You know, it's probably no different than religion, it could introduce serious conflicts in your lives and you might as well find someone who more closely matches your ideals. You made the right, er left choice ... lol

When I was dating a couple of girls rubbed me the wrong way; pushed to say really awful things about the president unsolicited and it made me rank them much lower. Not because I'm a leftist but because they seemed angry, and charged up, I would prefer a more honest and realists type of person in my life.

 

Disagree. There are plenty of fish in the sea, don't need to spend your days rolling your eyes at canned Fox News responses (in his views)... When I as in Carins this year, everyone was talking about issues with me but it was a bit more diplomatic. Perhaps in Australia, people are more reserved with it, here in the US you could really see some quite polarized and biased people.

This is entirely absurd. I don't agree with all my girlfriends political opinions, but she is beautiful, funny, super smart, and I love being around her. I could care less what her political opinions are!!

PS. She isn't a Republican, but I wouldn't care if she were. If she decided to become a Republican tomorrow, I certainly wouldn't break up with her.
