Saudi and UAE leaders decline to speak to Biden but do field calls from Putin
The leaders of both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates declined overtures from the White House to set up a call with President Biden, according to reporting from the Wall Street Journal.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the U.A.E.’s Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan have declined to speak with Biden in recent weeks, a U.S. official told WSJ, but both leaders did field calls from Russian President Vladimir Putin last week.

“There was some expectation of a phone call, but it didn’t happen,“ said a U.S. official of the planned discussion between the Saudi Prince Mohammed and Mr. Biden. ”It was part of turning on the spigot [of Saudi oil].”

That’s a paste from the following live update link

    https://www.foxnews.com/live-news/russia-ukraine-war-3-8-2022

Apparently other world leaders are picking Putin over America under Biden’s leadership. I’m guessing news like this only tells me that oil is about to get real expensive. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the USD lose the petrodollar

If true, then good. We need a justification to do away with the military pact with the Saudis. If they don't keep their end of the deal, we won't have to do so either.

According to other sources that is really not the full story. Saudis are negotiating, but they want US to help them in Yemen.

Good huh? If oil is no longer traded in dollars, just look at your net worth and cut it in half. Not so good now, is it?

Here is the Wall Street journal article it’s referring to.

    https://www.wsj.com/amp/articles/sa...-with-biden-during-ukraine-crisis-11646779430

this is a big deal. They claim they’re not answering the phone because of the current U.S. policies in the gulf.

I’ve said that a Third World War would likely see iran attacking Saudi and apparently that’s part of their concern.

It says "Persian Gulf monarchies have signaled they won’t help ease surging oil prices unless Washington supports them in Yemen, elsewhere"

So, its like I said it was. They want US to help them kill Yemenis like Trump did.

Of course they try to get as much out of the situation as they can.

I say its good because maybe we can finally tell Saudis to go pound sand. We have a military deal with them which we do not need to honor if they dont keep their end of the deal.

LOL. Its about Yemen, not Iran, but the deal between US and Saudi Arabia is that US will help them if they are attacked, but its the Saudis who are doing away with the deal, not us. If they don't honor the deal, they can deal with Iran on their own. Screw them.

And all this oil crap could be avoided if we just learned the same lesson that hits every ****ing time we have a spike
in oil prices - it's past time to start replacing oil as the sole fuel of choice. Republicans have to start admitting
that oil can't continue to be our god.

    Well it's not good.

I wouldn't blow the revelation trumpets yet as, so far this just looks like leveraging, but esspecially without the Saudi's on side things become increasingly complicated.

Republicans are realists on the matter as opposed to democrat fairytales. Our electrical grid has zero capability of sustaining a high demand of electric cars. California has a small fraction of registered electric vehicles vs registered gasoline vehicles and they have times they’re told not to charge their cars. There definitely needs to be a transition but you can’t just make anti fossil fuel laws without upgrading our infrastructure first. Unless you want to allow commercial shipping to get nuclear powered machines electric will never keep up.

A quote from the Wall Street journals article

It’s in Yemen yes, but Iran definitely has a beef with Saudi.

You realize that Saudi was the key to securing the petrodollar right? They can also be the key in its demise. This would economically Devastate us. Our dollar would overnight almost become worthless. We no longer are backed by gold. If we lose the backing of oil what would back our currency? It would literally become wallpaper

The trouble is that this needs to be done well in advance of the spike.

Even Elon Musk seems to understand this. Time to go nuclear, and reluctantly you probably need to open up a few more oil fields. At least in the short to moderate term. While at the same time increasing renewables, of course.

The other alternative is to buy smaller cars. Something you should seriously consider.

This is true. Nuclear would be a great gain but the environmentalists that are the leading voice in a transition from fossil fuels would never allow it.

Of course they do. Iran supports one side of the Yemen war, and Saudis the other. Its been going on for years.

No it would not. That is not how 'petrodollar' works. It doesn't "back" dollar.

Not exactly the same but it’s dang close and was designed to counter the loss of the gold standard.

one thing I love to study is economics. I may not be an economist and I don’t hit all on par I do semi understand the petrodollar.

It was designed to keep the green back in demand.

The USD has established itself as the world reserve currency and since it has no serious competition, the disappearance of the petrodollar would not change it. Besides lot of the oil trade is already done in other currencies. I doubt Saudis want to take that path because they would be the biggest losers.

it only makes sense that the aggressors in yemen would side with the aggressor in ukraine.

i would really like for biden to withdraw military support from these hereditary bozos who can not seem to conquer the poorest country in their area despite help from us and israel.

we oppose nuclear reactors for obvious reasons of waste disposal and vulnerability to natural disaster, but consider that in ukraine the reactor was a target, and what could be a more natural target for terrorists?

The suggestion is there's going to be a shortfall before renewables takeoff. Since fossil fuels are being wound back, what's going to meet that shortfall?

I think those problems can all be addressed. France seems to be doing ok.

Get thee to the lab young energy soldier, and produce this fantasy fuel you speak of.

I know that isn't going to happen, but at some point, alternatives can't just be fantasies. They have to be available. How long do you suppose it will take to get the Nuclear power plants popping up now?

Officials told the outlet that U.S. relations with the two Gulf countries have been strained over the Biden administration's lack of support in the war in Yemen and the revived negotiations concerning the Iran nuclear deal.

Saudi Arabia has also been pushing for legal immunity in the U.S. for Crown Prince Mohammed, who is accused of killing a journalist in 2018.

    https://thehill.com/homenews/admini...clined-calls-with-biden-amid-ukraine-conflict

Repub attempts to disparage Biden are getting very strained, lack context, and routinely favor Putin. Who would have thunk it?

Vladimir Putin’s popularity is soaring among Republicans
