True. In a twist of ironic fate, it seems Mexico is now trying to figure out how to keep folks from the US out... But securing the boarders doesn't just mean from Mexico.

 

Securing the boarder isn't mutually exclusive of US vs Non US citizens, and never has been. That doesn't mean that democrats aren't still pissed that travel is being restricted and all those potential new cases aren't getting to come in.

 

Believe me, it's not just the Democrats who are pissed - millions of Republican business owners and people employed in
travel related industries are going to take a huge financial hit from this.

And here's the problem - one day you have Trump calling it all a hoax, and a few days later he's shutting down travel. Confusion at the top leads to anger and confusion all down the line.

 

Folks, as you say, will take a financial hit. Perhaps, but the alternative and it's impact far outweigh any, I repeat... ANY of the short term pain shutting down international travel from the effected areas is going to have. And just be at least a little honest, and fair here.

 

Being honest means taking a critical look at a President who was so worried about the optics of COVID 19 that he would call
it a hoax and contradict his own CDC and then have to go into panic mode when he discovers his down-play of the virus had
hurt his chances of re-election. Americans aren't stupid. They can see that in Trump's mind this is a political crisis - not a medical one. Trump didn't even take his own possible exposure seriously until it became a political issue.

 

You are probably aware- but just FYI, the Chinese government has a national virus bio-research lab on the outskirts of Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus. Many say this is a biological weapons lab.
The chances of an employee getting unknowingly exposed and going home with the bug seem to be extremely likely given the proximity, and the very first suspect. If you were a vegas odds-maker you would be banking on it as the odds-on source. Of course China denies it, but it's kind of like blaming your sudden radiation sickness on a passing meteor rather than the nuke plant you live next to.

 

False. Firstly, every country in Europe has the right to decide this for itself, there's no superordinate agency that could tell individual countries what to do. Secondly, Austria, Germany, Switzerland (Austrian Air, Lufthansa, Swiss Air) closed their air routes on 3 Feb., Air France and British Airways also closed their routes quickly. The flights into European countries were flights to get Europeans out of the affected areas and people who landed at European airports where then sent into quarantine.

 

Unless every European country stops travel from China, what the others do is meaningless because travel within Europe is relatively unrestricted.
