I lived there in my college days.....never a very good place....much worse now. Why would anyone stay there? Well, it is easy for some to get trapped. I got out in 1970...I did have some good times there though....back in the day. Favorite memories: Kirkwood, imo's pizza, Lin Manor dr.., a nice lady who lived there, Gas Light Square, Shaws Garden, a little hill overlooking I-40 and watson rd. Ah! Nostalgia ...worked at GMPD on Lindberg whilst attending Washington University.
I live in Kirkwood. Wash U is an outstanding university, I attended Parks College in Cahokia, Illinois which is now affiliated with St. Louis University. Why do I live here? Well, it's not so bad. The cost of living is reasonable; I just paid $1.95 a gallon for gas, home ownership is within reason. You just have to know what areas to avoid. I'm from Elmhurst, a suburb of Chicago, and I would never consider going back to those Winters again. If I move again it will be South.
Well,Moving on is probably a wrong expression for a few days trip. BTW, Here are my questions: Do Banks there accept Iranian Rials? And what's the exchange rate you perceive per each Iranian Rial?
That is something that I am not certain of. I would run a search on the U.S. Federal Reserve and they should have a list of the various monetary exchanges that go on with all nations. AboveAlpha - - - Updated - - - Hotels can run anywhere from $75 to $250 a night on average for a good to excellent hotel. It all depends if you stay right in the city or not. AboveAlpha
Here is a link to a website that gives you real time rates of exchange. LINK....http://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=1&From=USD&To=IRR AboveAlpha
I ask since in Iran we have dual exchange rates and we buy one dollar from the market a bit more expensive. I owe someone money, since I translated his book into Farsi. So if he can exchange it there, it's better that I send directly in Iranian Rials.
$75 a night is fairly inexpensive for a room. There are places that you could get for less...perhaps $50 to $60....but they would not be all that nice. $75 a night will get you a very nice and clean room with good services and everyplace has a pool, Cable TV, On Demand, Internet and of course room service. A chess players doesn't need all that for a few day tournament. A place only needs to be clean and quiet. I don't want my family to go bankrupt! NOTE that we cannot take much money out of Iran with ourselves anyway.
I am a chess player myself. Just to let you know the amount of money we are discussing at least for the average American is a small sum. I personally walk around with at minimum $1000 to $2000 in my wallet at all times and have a number of credit cards with no limit. How much will they let you take out of Iran and maybe I can help you figure out how to save money? AboveAlpha
So do you have a FIDE or USCF rating? But we really don't need a very high-end room. in SowmeSara Silk cup 2015 my room was just a 3m by 1m room with a shared toiled which was washed with water every day, and I would eat my meals outside with other guests, some of whose room had more facilities and costed more, like GM Ghaemmaghami, GM Golizade & GM Mahjoob, and others who were given places in a hotel inside the city, rather that a recreation complex outside the city, like ours, the tournament venue. But the average Iranian urban family earns 600-something dollars per month. According to: I guess I can just have 5000 dollars+a bit of Iranian currency, plus 10000 for my parents.
Well $5000 should be more than enough for your trip as long as it is not longer than 2 weeks. I would get on Expedia.com as you can find what you are looking for. The site allows you to enter what you want to spend and what you desire for accommodations in whatever city on the planet and gives you many options. AboveAlpha - - - Updated - - - I have never been involved or rated by the FIDE or USCF. However I have not lost a chess game since I lost to my Dad back in 1981. AboveAlpha
Huh? Do you play in tournaments at all? The destination would be the California for 3-4 months probably, visiting St Louis for only a week.
3-4 months??? OK...listen....if you have never been to the U.S. you are going to have your eye's opened big time. There is simply so much to do and see that it can become quite overwhelming for some people especially from Iran. You need to pace yourself. The girls here alone will probably give you a coronary. I just have an extremely high analytic I.Q. and I am capable of way out of the box problem solving thus I am good at chess. AboveAlpha
Haha! The Americans did not treat me bad the last time I was there in 2013. then also we were there for about 2 months.
