I myself prefer Captain Kirk and crew to TNG crew. I felt they had alot more chemistry and made a far better crew. And of course to me where more entertaining. THough I did like Star Trek" First Contact with the borg, a very good action/sci-fi movie. Generations was an abomination the way it ended (I won't say for those who have not seen it) Insurrection was crap and nemesis was crap until the end. What are your favorite movies and which crew do you like more?

I just couldn't get into DS9. Enterprise was ok I guess, but to me the orginal is always the best.

TOS is the original and the template for all of the other shows, and it still (mostly) seems to handle the test of time.

I liked TNG, particularly the last couple of seasons, beginning with the introduction of the Borg.

DS9 I liked as well (although not quite as much as TNG) although the last few seasons were fairly high quality and had some good story arcs, and the show probably had some of the best individual episodes.

Voyager: It was ho hum. Not bad; the Berman formula was in full swing, but nothing spectacular.

Enterprise: Pretty mediocre until the last season, which was great, but by then it was too late to save the show.

I never liked the original whenever I would see it. I was born in 82 so I wasn't even alive when it was on. I clearly remember liking TNG, and I'm certain part of that stemmed from Levar Burton doing Reading Rainbow, which I was watching by 4 or 5.

    Patrick Stewart is the man.

    Had to be said.

The writing for DS9 was first-rate. They really got into character development.

The acting was superb. Never was there a better sci-fi venue for character actors. J.G. Hertzler is a genius. It must kind of suck to be Armin Shimmerman, though. He looked sexier as a deliberately grotesque space alien than he does in real life.

The original has better storylines , DS9 is generally better than TNG because it has a very short arc

    Soon as we do?

Wayne LaPierre will say we have a "Constitutional right" to have them for home defense.

Certainly a phaser would be allowed under the Constitution. Including the more powerful phaser rifle.

The original series broke alot of new ground. TNG did it's best to follow in those footsteps, IMO. Never really was a fan of the any of the other spinoffs. What made both the original and TNG so unique was that they took the social issues of their eras and addressed them in a sci-fi backdrop. But my vote goes to the original simply because of the sheer innovation of what they pulled off given the limited resources they had available.

Well, they were products of different times.. I love both series. I like the old movies, particularly 2, 4 and 6. I agree that the Next Generation films were (*)(*)(*)(*)e.

Awesome. Let's let everyone have a weapon that completely disintegrates the victim, making murder virtually unsolvable.

    Freedom. Yeah!

Watched TNG first. Sorta hard to overcome that nostalgia.

Plus the issues are so delightfully ethical and are explored in a decent way.

I am sure that the hundreds of thousands o f young white boys getting a woody looking at Lt Uhura in her short skirt had some impact on both aesthetics and attitudes toward Jim Crow laws.

The first inter-racial kiss on TV was between Capt. Kirk and Lt. Uhuru.

TNG for me. I liked DS9 and the original series. Never really got into Voyager. That being said I like the movies with the original series characters a little more then the ones with TNG characters.

IMO the actors in the original Star Trek just way overacted... but with that said, it was a style that was in vogue back in the 60's. I connected to TNG much more, the acting style of the 80's was more natural but still had a dramatic flare.

I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that radio drama still influenced TV drama in the 60s.
