Syria Destroys Some Chemical Weapons Under Supervision

Syria started destroying chemical weapons today, about a week after the United Nations Security Council approved an agreement to eliminate the country’s non-conventional arms after an August attack.

Inspectors from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons verified that the Syrian government destroyed missile warheads and production equipment, an official from the joint OPCW-UN mission said on condition of anonymity. He didn’t provide further details.

The Security Council approved an agreement on Sept. 27 to eliminate all of Syria’s chemical weapons after an Aug. 21 poison gas attack near Damascus that the U.S. said killed more than 1,400 people. The resolution lacked immediate consequences if Syrian President Bashar al-Assad failed to comply and it didn’t assign blame for the attack, which U.S., U.K. and French officials attribute to Assad’s regime.

Syria’s civil war has claimed the lives of more than 115,000 people, according to the opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a U.K.-based monitoring group. The fighting pits the mainly Muslim Sunni opposition against the backers of Assad, whose Alawite faith is an offshoot of Shiite Islam.

“The fact that just three weeks ago the Syrian regime did not even acknowledge it had chemical weapons, and now inspectors are not only on the ground but they are reportedly overseeing the initial stages of destruction is a positive step,” U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in an e-mailed statement. “There is more work to be done and the world will be watching.”

Dear Representative {name}:


Thank you for your letter, co-signed with 89 other Congress
people, calling on George Bush to answer questions about the
secret U.S.-UK agreement to attack Iraq.

By way of background, we are a group of ex-military officials,
scientists, lawyers, historians, publishers, and researchers.
We are not wild-eyed conspiracy theorists, but sober, level-headed analysts.

Many of us knew BEFORE the Iraq invasion commenced that the
Administration's claims concerning weapons of mass destruction
were false, and were merely being made in order to justify a pre-
planned military campaign.

As Air Force Lt. Colonel Karen Kwiatkowski, who worked in the
secretive office of Undersecretary for Policy Douglas Feith, pointed out:

"From May 2002 until February 2003, I observed firsthand the
formation of the Pentagon's Office of Special Plans and watched the
latter stages of the neoconservative capture of the policy-
intelligence nexus in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq."

This secretive Office of Special Plans is apparently also part
of an investigation by the FBI and has already led to at least one
arrest, of Larry Franklin, who worked under Feith.

Congress did not listen to us, and instead optimistically and
hopefully believed our Commander-in-Chief and his cabinet.

By 1998, the neocon think-tank Project for a New American
Century (PNAC), of which Feith was a member, laid the intellectual for the Iraq war,
and also a larger military adventure, in a
letter to former President Clinton:

"Only ground forces can remove Saddam and his regime from power
and open the way for a new post-Saddam Iraq .... "

"We urge you to turn your Administration's attention to
implementing a strategy for removing Saddam's regime from power."

Immediately after September 11th, PNAC wrote a letter to
President George W. Bush:

Saddam Hussein is one of the leading terrorists on the face of
the Earth ... any strategy...must include a determined effort to
remove Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq..."

The signatories to this letter included Feith supporters Bruce
P. Jackson, Charles Krauthammer, Richard Perle, Norman Podhoretz
and future 9/11 Commissioner John Lehman.

Which leads us to the September 11 tragedy.

As Professor Benjamin deMott pointed out last year in Harper's magazine, the so
called 9/11 Commission Report defrauds the nation and is
a "whitewash".


Careful and extensive analysis of this report suggests that the
official story of 9/11 is a bold lie and the real perpetrators
of 9/11 have yet to be publicly named. We do not make these
claims lightly.

If you are concerned about your nation, you should be finally
really concerned and create a committee to bring these findings and
other unanswered questions into mainstream.

We are writing to alert you to this even greater deception
which the Administration has carried out in order to justify a pre-
planned military agenda.

BACKGROUND

Last year's BBC documentary, "The Power of Nightmares: The
Rise of the Politics of Fear", systematically challenged the myth of
Al- Qaeda and many other accepted articles of faith in the so-
called War on Terror.

Neither the 9/11 Commission nor any court of law has been able
to directly take evidence from the key post-9/11 terror detainees
held by the United States. Everything we know comes from sides
that have a great stake in exaggerating the threat posed by Al
Qaeda.


In reality, PNAC members like former CIA director James Woolsey
are using this false agenda to pushing for "World War IV":

"This fourth world war, I think, will last considerably longer
than either World Wars I or II did for us..."As we move toward a new
Middle East ...over the years and, I think, over the decades to

Norman Podhoretz, another PNAC member points out:

"...Suppose that we hang in long enough to carry World War IV
to a comparably successful conclusion. What will victory mean this
time around?

Well, to us it will mean the elimination of another,
and in some respects greater, threat to our safety and security...."

The idea of "WW4" started with Eliot Cohen, called by one
observer "the most influential neocon in academe," a well-known
scholar of military affairs based at Johns Hopkins School of
Advanced International Studies (SAIS), which also served as a
base for a number of prominent neoconservatives, including former
Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz (now head of the World Bank)
and political scientist Francis Fukuyama.

Cohen has also been affiliated with a number of hawkish advocacy groups, including
the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq and PNAC and also serves
of the Defense Policy Board.

In 1996, Cohen, along Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, and David
Wurmser , co-authored a policy paper entitled "A Clean Break: A
New Strategy for Securing the Realm", which was presented to then-
Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu. The paper argued that
Israel had no choice but to preemptively attack Arab nations
including Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Iran. Iraq, the only
serious challenge to Israel, had to be destroyed first in order to
secure a stranglehold over Syria, which was depicted as the main danger
to the Jewish state.

The 9/11 attacks were war-gamed, and indeed PRACTICED, various
times before September 11, in a dozen terror drills and on the
horrible day itself in classified war games conducted by several
different U.S. defense agencies.

Since when does a human rights organization are here to argue for a military attack, which will kill the dozen innocent civilians? For Human Rights Watch, all part of the work program. By the regime of the United States favored by America's "human rights" organization that has the time vowed to continue the for torture operated by the CIA program of "extraordinary rendition" of its predecessor by the Obama administration, let hair down to Obama's allegations to support that the Syrian government responsible for the chemical weapons attack on 21 August Wear near Damascus.

When Obama was ready to give Syria a lesson by Tomahawk cruise missiles, Human Rights Watch world stood practically alone on the side of the President. The human rights group committed neither to helping the victims, nor for promoting international diplomatic efforts to end the crisis. Human Rights Watch even repeated the lie that the report of the UN inspectors on the 21 August "clearly refers to the responsibility of the Syrian government for the attack." He does not, and the UN had no mandate to determine also, the responsibility for the attack, in fact. But that was the line of the Administration of the United States of America and HRW was determined to stay with this - even if the rest of the world gasped in disbelief.

When the Russian effort to attack the United States of America against Syria - which undoubtedly would have killed many more people than loud statements on 21 Have been August killed by poison gas - avert, was finalized by a UN resolution that called for the destruction of chemical weapons and related equipment to the Syrian government, one would think that a human rights group would rejoice at that diplomacy has triumphed over war.

Not as Human Rights Watch. The representative of the organization at the UN Philippe Bolopion sharply criticized the agreement and noted that "it does not ensure that justice is done enough."

At this time, even President Obama was happy to have avoided a military conflict in Syria. Human Rights Watch does not.

The organization has certainly not abandoned. A recent report by Mother Agnes Mariam of the Cross and its Institute for Peace, Justice and Human Rights meticulously refuted many of the photographic evidence that has been presented about the attack. After living in the country, she has interviewed the dozen victims of the attacks of the insurgents. The report of their organization raises serious questions arise as to whether those presented by the Government of the United States of America as the main evidence of the guilt of the Syrian government attack on the YouTube videos are manipulated or even falsified in its entirety. Mother Agnes Mariam, described by the BBC as "Syria's detective nun," now finds her work in a recent BBC article attacked, and guess by whom? ... properly, Human Rights Watch!

Peter Bouckaert, "crisis manager" by Human Rights Watch, the non-resident in Syria, wipes Mother Agnes Mariam's work aside by stating succinctly that He continues "these allegations are unfounded.": "She is not a specialist for forensic video analysis. "She has of course never claimed. She just said that she has functioning eyes, which - among other differences - have noticed that some of the alleged victims of the attack in different places are seen to about the same time and that one need not be a "professional video analyst" to recognize that this is not possible.

Human Rights Watch is a registered NGO pro-regime of the United States of America. You want to be the only voice on human rights issues, and thanks to their favored position and the huge budget they have great weight in these things. How often they can probably advertise torture and war before people stop listening to their lies?

Last week, a liberal hosts first reaction to the death of the public option last week was "You were all expecting this, you all knew this was coming" (the death of health care reform). I was incensed at the veteran host and his hubris because he knew 10's of millions voted for this reason alone, they didn't know it was coming. But Obama hadn't started the death of America, Reagan did. It just took nearly 30 years to come full circle.

To assume righties can't handle the truth is wrong. Then why prop up the puppet Reagan? The ditttoheads have very limited power, the Fox News influence is very limited. Their main ratings demographic, 60% of which is aged 55 and over is not the most politically active. The spin-meisters on TV/Radio are trying to convince the American people that we cannot trust our own eyes and ears. They intentionally omit facts, spin you with opinion, or innuendo. The news is no longer the news, its spin. All dying Republics need their mythology.

Their hero - Ronald Reagan was inept, sleeping at meetings and screwing up speeches he needed the media to cover for him while America decayed. And so Reagan became a symbol of old decadence in Washington and dead ideas like a Soviet menace and the "evil empire" to fight against in endless war. Joblessness was huge, the economy decayed and few in government helped except to line the Pentagon war profiteers pockets with an arms race. More missles, more bombs.
