If anyone is so foolish to believe that the Syrian people do not back their government, this letter should set them straight.

We, the Patriarchs: John X, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, Ignatius Aphrem II, Syrian Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, and Joseph Absi, Melkite-Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch, Alexandria, and Jerusalem, condemn and denounce the brutal aggression that took place this morning against our precious country Syria by the USA, France and the UK, under the allegations that the Syrian government has used chemical weapons. We raise our voices to affirm the following:

This brutal aggression is a clear violation of the international laws and the UN Charter, because it is an unjustified assault on a sovereign country, member of the UN.

It causes us great pain that this assault comes from powerful countries to which Syria did not cause any harm in any way.

The allegations of the USA and other countries that the Syrian army is using chemical weapons and that Syria is a country that owns and uses this kind of weapon, is a claim that is unjustified and unsupported by sufficient and clear evidence.

The timing of this unjustified aggression against Syria, when the independent International Commission for Inquiry was about to start its work in Syria, undermines of the work of this commission.

This brutal aggression destroys the chances for a peaceful political solution and leads to escalation and more complications.

This unjust aggression encourages the terrorist organizations and gives them momentum to continue in their terrorism.

We call upon the Security Council of the United Nations to play its natural role in bringing peace rather than contribute to escalation of wars.

We call upon all churches in the countries that participated in the aggression, to fulfill their Christian duties, according to the teachings of the Gospel, and condemn this aggression and to call their governments to commit to the protection of international peace.

We salute the courage, heroism and sacrifices of the Syrian Arab Army which courageously protects Syria and provide security for its people. We pray for the souls of the martyrs and the recovery of the wounded. We are confident that the army will not bow before the external or internal terrorist aggressions; they will continue to fight courageously against terrorism until every inch of the Syrian land is cleansed from terrorism. We, likewise, commend the brave stand of countries which are friendly to the Syria and its people.

We offer our prayers for the safety, victory, and deliverance of Syria from all kinds of wars and terrorism. We also pray for peace in Syria and throughout the world, and call for strengthening the efforts of the national reconciliation for the sake of protecting the country and preserving the dignity of all Syrians.

Yea, let's listen to a propaganda piece from "The Hill" instead of actual Christians living in Syria.

The first city the terrorists took over when the war started, was Homs, and the first thing they did was tell the 60,000 Christians to leave or be killed. Something that was never mentioned in the MSM.

Here's a bit from CBN that's a lot different from our main stream narratives:

"They came here to convert the Christians to Islam and they wanted to destroy Maaloula because it is Christian," resident Maryam El Zakhm recalled. "They shouted 'Allahu akbar!' They were from Chechneya, Egypt, Libya, from everywhere – Tunis, Algeria – they came with long hair, long beards and scary faces."

Maryam was at home when the terrorists, armed with automatic weapons and grenades, approached her doorstep.

"They attacked my house and started screaming, 'Come out you Christian pigs!' I knew they planned to take our daughters, rape and kill them. So, I thought of killing my daughters and then myself before they could get to us. I then prayed to God instead and asked him to give us a chance to leave the house," she explained.

Maryam and her family escaped out a back door just moments before the jihadists stormed their home.

"We had a lot of fear in fact at that time and people began to leave Maaloula; in fact six men were kidnapped. We still do not know their fate," said Father Toufic Eid, parish priest of St. George's Greek Melkite Catholic Church.

They also kidnapped 15 nuns, who spent three months in captivity before they were freed in a prisoner exchange. Other Christians, however, were not so fortunate.
Maryam's nephew, Sarkis, and two other men hidden in the cellar of a house. The terrorists called out to them, pledging they would not be harmed if they surrendered. "When they refused to convert to Islam, they were killed – three of them," Maryam said.

In a show of support for the Christians of Maaloula, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad toured the town in April 2014. He walked through the rubble of damaged homes, monasteries and church buildings and pledged to help restore Maaloula to its ancient beauty.

So the government felt it was important to care for the Christians and show they are caring for the Christians?" CBN News asked Father Toufic.

"Of course, of course not only because they are Christians but because Maaloula became in the past a symbol – a symbol of the Christianity itself and a symbol of living together between Christians and Muslims. That's why Maaloula was important and that's why it was attacked," Toufic explained.

Restoration efforts continue at Saint Sarkis Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in all of Christendom.
It was heavily damaged by the terrorists, but today it is mostly restored. Predating the Council of Nicea in 325 AD, the monastery chapel was built in the 4th century on the ruins of a pagan temple that remains intact. Missing today are 16th and 18th century icons that once adorned the chapel walls. Some believe the jihadists may have either sold or destroyed them.

Maryam says the terrorists could have easily massacred the city's Christians, but God intervened.
"I believe prayer had an effect. By your prayers, we were protected," she said.

While many buildings have been restored, it will take longer for the people to rebuild their lives.
"My daughter has nightmares and screams in the middle of the night, 'They're coming to kill us!" Maryam said.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    And here's a bit from 21stcenturywire.com

MAALOULA, SYRIA – From the September 2013 to April 2014, the residents of this historic Christian village of Maaloula in Syria were fighting for their very existence, as terrorists forces led by the Free Syrian Army (FSA) terrorized, kidnapped, and murdered locals, targeting Christians and historic holy sites, including a local convent, which included the kidnapping of nuns there.

The FSA terrorists (supported by the US, Turkey, Jordan and others) were later joined by a nefarious conclave of ‘rebels’ led by terrorists Jabhat al Islamia, Jabat al Nusra, Ahrar al Sham, Al Farouk Brigades, the Turkistani Tahreer Army, Jaish al Islam (Zahran Allouch, Jabhat Tahreer al Qalamoun [Hamas], Alwiyat Ahfad al Rasoul (al Qaeda in Idlib), Syrian Martyrs’ Brigade and ISIS.

After months of fighting and heavy losses sustained by the Syrian government and brave local defense forces in Maaloula, the village was finally liberated from terrorist occupation

So you defend the Syrian Christians by not listening to the Syrian Christians.
    Is this a bad joke?

The refusal of the UN to condemn the countries that committed this military aggression under fraud shows how useless the UN has become. Utterly compromised, and useless. Over many years.

I'm certainly not listening to a few Christians threatened and coached by the Assad regime into crafting a fable for public consumption!

Oh get off it. What do you think it's going to get you supporting the terrorists at the expense of the lives of Christians and others in Syria? Do you think that they won't attack Israel afterwards? Guess again?

You're right! It's the stupidity of certain Evangelicals, not all though. They believe that Christianity suddenly popped up with the printing press, and for the past thousand plus years, they were hiding in basements singing Western hymns.

They're not just a few random Christians.

This is quite big and it certainly should be to you since you seem to care so much about the Christians in Syria.
If your concerns are genuine that is.

    That won't be necessary:

"The Gatestone Institute (formerly Stonegate Institute and Hudson New York) is a right-wing think tank that publishes articles, particularly pertaining to Islam and the Middle East. The organization has attracted attention for publishing false articles and being a source of viral falsehoods. Gatestone was founded in 2012 by Nina Rosenwald, who serves as its president. Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John R. Bolton is its chairman."

It is one's duty to doubt the information he is subjected to.

I am far less of a propaganda fodder than some people.

The least Christian Christians are the Palestinian Christians I guess.
    Nobody ever mentions Palestinian Christians.

But the Syrian Christians my God they need to be rescued, they're oppressed by the Muslims.

They're the leaders of the Christian branch in Syria. I don't know much about how Christianity is structured in Syria, but a spiritual leader usually represent a big part of that religious branch.
So the answer how many exactly? A lot? All of them? Minus some skeptics?

Well isn't that just convenient....a handful of church officials mysteriously and unexpectedly rush to the defense of Bashar al-Assad and his murdering regime. We can only wonder what kind of horrible pressures these men must have been under to voice such condemnations of the international forces that are attempting to save them from the evils that they are subjected to daily!

I don't chose a news source depending on its left/right bias. If it has such a visible flaw as having an announced bias (such a stupid US trend), I will try to avoid it. I say "try" because their pollution is perverting.

In fact I don't "chose" a news source, period - I have no news source preference, apart for Wikipedia, which is more of an encyclopedia than a news source. I usually start on wikipedia then follow the sources given at the end of the page, weighting their credibility with some more research.

Stop the spin. Your hatred towards Christians is obvious. The Christians were given permission by the Patriarchs to join Assads army 4 years ago to protect their country and their families from the terrorists you support.

Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, - 1,800,000 members
Syrian Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and all the East - 500,000
Melkite-Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch, Alexandria, and Jerusalem, - 1,500,000

Great reference there, a bunch of Gatestone neo cons, and one Christian who sold his soul for the almighty dollar. In the meantime no mention of the bishops who were kidnapped 5 years ago, and the thousands who were beheaded by your 'lovely' Al Nusra/Al Queda.

No mention either of McCain embracing the terrorists after they slaughtered a Christian town near Lebanon.

Take care my son, no Christian hearts, unless they are well cooked.
