    http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/i...a-tea-party-is-authoritarian-not-libertarian/

The New York Times just ran an oped by social scientists Robert Putnam and David Campbell, reporting on polling results about the Tea Party. This dovetails very closely with a discussion we’ve been having here, and provides additional evidence suggesting that this movement is not libertarian:
Libertarians, if they stand for anything, stand for less government interference in people’s lives–e.g., they are civil libertarians. So imposing religion on others is absolute anathema to them.

But authoritarians? Is that what they believe?

Again, let’s consult the expert, Robert Altemeyer. Here’s Altemeyer on authoritarianism and religion:

And here’s Altemeyer on how authoritarians view the out-group–other races, immigrants, etc. This quote is a little longer because it reports the results of a survey:

Why do we confuse libertarianism with authoritarianism so much, when they are so different?

That’s a whole ‘nother post, and it goes to the heart of our inability to understand our own politics.

    _____________________________

Is this a surprise to anyone else. Of course they are racist. Of course they want to institute a borderline theocracy in our country.

So, when the effort to label the Tea Partists racists and religious zealots in 2010 fails, they do study of what these people were like back in 2006 before the Tea Party was ever formed?

    I'm confused.

Read the article. They studied a group of people in 2006 and founded how they changed their views. Those who racist, christianist and authoritarian were more likely to be a member of the tea party.

And those who are racist, anti white anti capitalism and anti Christian are most likely to be liberals.

As a Ron Paul supporter I totally agree. Most of the Tea party and their supporters are definitely not Libertarians...

Post a story about how the Tea Party condones, supports or preaches violence and racism...then I will care. (Oh, but it has to be "current", not from 2006).

Wow, the New York Times. Really? Color me so surprised. Next week, "President Obama has never told a lie, according to the New York Times."

This is what happens when you start with a conclusion and build a "study" around it.

    Exactly.

They write the conclusion first and then do a study to fit.

The study followed 3000 Americans from 2006 to 2011. How much more do you want?

You do know that your "study" doesn't mention racist. You added that word yourself.
