A person shouldn't be afraid to criticize another solely because of racial sensitivity either....
yet it appears to be open season on white christian males however....if we're going to have honest discussions on the value of NFL players....and discuss over-hyped, over-rated players....some seem to be given a free pass solely on the basis of race...for fear criticism may reflect some sort of built-in bias.

I don't think Tebow is anywhere near elite status...and he struggles at times reading defenses...however so does Michael Vick, and neither is Michael Vick anywhere near elite status....yet if I started a thread...

Vick staying in Philadelphia....you get maybe 2 or 3 replies....not like this inundation of hate directed at Tebow...and not just this forum...on discussions boards across the internet as a whole.

Tebow has to make the Patriots team, and he'll probably sit on the bench alot and learn the system...life goes on..why the need to bash him? He's a decent guy off the field...he doesn't ask for the hype directed towards him, it just seems to follow him around. A criminal is a criminal..why make excuses for someone because of racial sensitivity? and the NFL is full of convicted felons...who off the field ...aren't such great people or great role models...why give them a free pass? no pun intended.

It's pathological, the dislike towards Tim Tebow.

i don't think it has anything to do with his race and he made his religion an issue when he would put Biblical references in his eyeblack so spare me the righteousness it is silly. Tebow was a great college quarterback who couldn't make it as a quarterback in the NFL and people were saying that before he got drafted. His quarterback skills are nominal and his winning in Denver was a sign that he may have a spark but I don't think that is a done deal as when I have watched him and most of the NFL scouts they come to the same conclusion. He can't do it.

Name these guys? These over-the-hill talentless players who bring nothing to the team except being black. Not only is that a racist statement it is insane.

There are tons of outspoken Christians in the NFL, heck one blamed God for dropping a touchdown pass. (Talk about external locus of control). Your statements are false and ridiculous.

On forums like this, you know why he is bashed.
Tons of fair to middl'in white QBs have won and won alot. Joe Theismann comes to mind. Trent Dilfer is another. Both took teams to Super Bowls and won.
Joe Flacco was univerally thought to suck his first few years. Now look at him.
San Diego couldnt wait to get rid of Brees, bad on them.

He was not the first player to put bible verses on his eyeblack or wrist bands or shoes or socks.
As far as talentless black players who are still playing? Well Mike Vick has been brought up a number of times here.
Randy Moss, over the hill and a thug that beat a kid unconsious in highschool for no reason.
LaGarette Blount, thug that sucker punched a helmetless player.
Pac Man Jones, what more needs to be said. He is heading to court over ANOTHER fight this week.
Ray Caruth, thug that killed his baby momma. In jail.
Ray Lewis, wouldnt snitch on his homie that killed a man. Brought back after jail with open arms and allowed to retire a beloved member of the Ravens.
I could go on, but if I have to. You dont follow football at all.

Virtually every qb in the league is white so I don't see the racial criticism of Tebow's public disrespect by the league. He is a Christian, however, and
very public about it and that alone has made him the object of many people's hate (the same people that would jump in to defend him to the death, by the way, if he were a devout Muslim and under attack for that).
    I find that very distressing.

Angry White guys do Tebow a disservice by fixating on his race and religiosity.

He's a talented athlete and, wherever he plays, he'll be beloved if he wins

What are you talking about? Who is afraid?

And Vick is criticized for his lack of talent in areas.
    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...w-where-he-stands-in-quarterback-competition/

Right now Philadelphia doesn't know who is starting next year. But here is the thing. Numbers matter.

Let's look at Tebow in the Denver year...considered his best and brightest time in the NFL so far

Passing percentage: 46.5% Yards passing per game: 123.5 12 Touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Rushing: 122 times for 660 yds. About 47.1 per game for 5.4 yards per carry with 6 TDs and 6 lost fumbles in 14 games

    Michael Vick last year

Passing percentage: 58.1% Yards passing per game: 236 18 Touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Rushing: 62 times for 332 yds. About 33.2 per game for 5.4 yards per carry with 1 TDs and 5 lost fumbles in 10 games

Taking the totality you see that they are about even. Though you are more likely to get a quarterback kind of play from Vick. He also played parts of his games injured.
Both are getting a chance. But my guess is Vick is done at the middle of this season unless he returns to his glory days of 2006 or 2010.

I don't think anyone is giving the criminal element in the NFL a free pass. There are still protests when Vick plays for example. But to say Tebow didn't call this scrutiny upon himself is stupid. He did a freaking Superbowl commercial to support his views.

    Why? Because you like him?

There is not a coach in the league that would take Tebow over Vick. There is a huge difference between Tebows 46% completion percentage and Vicks 58%.

I wish Tebow well, but I'm guessing it will be another year or two in New England sitting the bench before he retires. I doubt he's better than Mallett passing so more than likely he won't see any playing time.

Go ahead and put some money down on the Eagles...just making the playoffs...if you feel so confident.

I'm not comparing Vick and Tebow...however for $10 million per year..and a starter...Vick is not worth the investment...I seriously doubt Tebow will be making 1/4th of what Vick makes to fumble and throw interceptions culminating in an 8-8 record. guess what Tebow's record was as a regular season starter... 8 - 8.

Go ahead...make a bet on the Eagles just making the playoffs.

meanwhile if Tebow makes the Patriots...and I can guarantee you'll see the Patriots in the playoffs...and sure Tebow will be on the bench...as back up..but the Eagles arent' going anywhere, even with a new head coach under Michael Vick as starting QB.

Umm I didn't say he was, I said he did it, and that drew attention to his religion which you said he didn't do.

And he had better overall numbers last year than Tebow did in Denver....so...........

And that is awful and he should have gone to prison for it. But a lot of schools protect great players. Oh where is Randy Moss playing this year? BTW way he had better stat averages in 2012 than in 2010 or 2009 and didn't play in 2011. He averaged 15.6 yds a catch last year which is about his career average and he is likely a first ballot hall of famer.

Who? oh the guy who was a lock for the first round and didn't get drafted and brought into the NFL as an undrafted free agent.

    And?

so how did he not get punished.

Yes. he was given a second chance...probably more demonstribly Christian than Tebow. Loved in Baltimore and hated everywhere else. One sports writer still calls him a murderer. But you know, nothing bad happens to him?

Hmmmm perhaps we can talk about white NFL who got passes for things.

Let's start with Paul Hornung back in the '60s
How about Big Ben Roethlisberger...two sexual assaults that go uncharged because of lack of victim cooperation or evidence and he gets a small suspension.

Why some angry, white guys obsess over Tebow's race and religion is bizarre.

Aren't the overwhelming majority of NFL quarterbacks also white and christian?

Is this the part where I remind you that football is a team sport? The fact remains, there is no comparison between the two in terms of passing the ball.

    Tebow won't make it IMO.

When he's under pressure he folds up like a cheap card table.

The really great quarterbacks like Roger Staubach and Joe Montana always played better under pressure.

    Look at the salaries....last year.

    Mr. Vick = $13,900,000
    Mr. Tebow = $4,072,500

Clearly Tebow is over-paid...and over-rated...for his performance in 2012.
but you're saying that only Mr. Tebow is over-rated....?

Vick is the 9th highest paid player in the NFL....

this year...Vick will make $15.2 million

you're telling me he's in the top 10 in the NFL?

    Ok....just checking....

Hornung also owned up to his mis deeds and took the punishment like a man.
Roethlisberger is a jerk off, I never said that white players dont get in trouble or are all angels. But this list is disporportionatly black.

    - - - Updated - - -

You obviously have never watched him play.

No, I'm not telling you that, I'm telling you Tebow is no where near as good of a QB as Vick was at his worst. Numbers don't lie, and a guy that can't complete 50% of his passes has no business starting as a NFL QB.

The pay is irrelevant. Pay has nothing to do with where you rank in the NFL. If you have a good agent, and a team is in need of talent at a position, they will pay. The bottom line is Vick has proven he can throw the ball accurately down field, Tebow has shown the opposite.

Also, Vick had actually started all 16 games at one point (well only once, but still) and Tebow has never done that.

Tebow has never been given the chance to.
Cant fault a guy that has never been given a real shot. And the half shot he got he took his team to the playoffs.

Yea, because Sanchez's 55% is so much better and look at the money they throw at him.

Yeah, 9% better is actually quite a big difference. Sanchez sucks, it's just that Tebow is quite a bit worse.

    Loot at the thread.

    13 pages of posts...

Pro-football is ultimately a business, right?
We can all agree on that I hope.

here it is...late Spring...and we're talking about football...
it's not even college football season yet....and we're discussing football.

Tim Tebow is good business....whether you root against him or for him...or don't care...everyone has an opinoin on him.

he certainly is not detrimental to the league in terms of image....he doesn't shoot himself in the foot at a New York nightclub...or sexuallly assault women in Pittsburgh bars....

he may sit on the bench all season..maybe get one or two minutes of playing time...but he's good for business...folks talk about the NFL and will watch just to see Tebow on the sidelines....

What are we left with really in terms of "cult of personality" in the NFL?

    Not much.

Maybe Tony Romo...a guy you either love or hate.

I hope he makes the cut and plays a few downs...

Do you know why the NBA is popular?

    Cult of personality...
    LeBron James....same thing.
Guys you either love or hate...but either way, they are not bland.

    Tiger Woods...a cult of personality.

Tebow is good for the NFL, and sure he's not the greatest..but that's what makes it fun to watch him play...
it's like train wreck and sometimes he actually keeps the locomotive on the rails.

I'm telling you ...him at QB will generate TONS of viewership ratings...and ultimately the NFL..all pro-sports
    are a business.

But, hey, he's a "White Hispanic".........and diversity is good for the NFL right?.........except when it comes to white players at certain positions.....
