Texas blocks Pornhub

This will be interesting to see how it impacts Republicans in Texas. I'm thinking there's not going to be too many happy men.


One article said this is what shows up when a Texas user tries to log on:

""As you may know, your elected officials in Texas are requiring us to verify your age before allowing you access to our website," the statement reads in part. "Not only does this impinge on the rights of adults to access protected speech, it fails strict scrutiny by employing the least effective and yet also most restrictive means of accomplishing Texas’ stated purpose of allegedly protecting minors."

I'm sure most will be researching how a VPN works very very soon. Until the case goes to the Supreme Court and then... whether porn is free speech or not will depend on the quality of the yacht trip that the right-wing justices get....

Did you know that you have to prove proof of age to engage in interstate commerce?

I remember when I had to show ID in order to get into a theater showing an R rated movie.

 

Browsing a website isn't interstate commerce unless you're actually buying something. And no, you can buy all kinds of stuff w/o proof of age unless tobacco, alcohol, porn, etc

Porn is a giant industry. Some say porn was why VHS won over Betamax. If definitely set off tech advances on the Internet like credit card payment, streaming, etc. But you're right, most will just go to other sites until they are blocked too.

 

That's not true. I recently had a problem with my outbound emails not being sent - Comcast was blocking them for some reason. After going nuts with their lack of support I contacted the New Mexico Public Relation Commission and they told me internet service is considered to be interstate commerce and said I needed to contact the FCC.

 

I think there was a place to submit age but no requirement to prove.

 

My kid can go online and buy a toy from another state without having to prove age. Not illegal at all.

 

And that's a recent development, gonna get worse too.. The internet is quickly losing it anonymity

 

You already have to claim it. That's not what the is about. Texas is saying you have to PROVE it.

 

A toy? ADULT toy? Their not considered pornographic and not subject to or limited to age restrictions..

 

Most folks seen it coming, it's not just porn but ATF too..

The net has enjoyed far to much freedom and somethings should be kept from ten year olds..

If local law enforcement and especially FFC, FBI, NCIC or any of the big boys want to track your IP nothing can stop it from being disclosed..

A lot of sites now restrict registered commercial VPN providers.. Regardless, the registered VPN's address will be included in the tracert "has to be" and most sysops servers flag them, in fact interNic sends out an update file of all registered VPN and its as simple as copy and paste it into the servers.. Even small providers, have the same options..

 

Pretty sure that's not the top of the priority list in this situation..

 

I dont see how this would help the problem they claim they are working against. Just seems like a massive waste of money and time.
