Texas Pastor To Set Himself Aflame If SSM Wins At SCOTUS.

I can understand people having differing viewpoints but I think this is probably going a little too far.

Also it will have no effect. Same sex couples will still be getting married long after this gentleman's last embers are doused. I'm thinking he probably won't go ahead with it but as visceral reactions go.........

I was just thinking that. Either the pastor is not very good at reading the court or he really just wants to set himself on fire.

Ha! I also somehow doubt that he will follow through with it but if he does then I hope that he at least does so in a designated smoking area. Good citizenry is good citizenry.

I think this is a wonderful way to protest. Only if he is allowed to burn to ashes. That will show us.

 

Gives a whole new meaning to the word flame wars... and it seems a little hypocritical for him to complain about other people being over the top flaming after making this threat. But I respect his right to express himself in this way.

I just have a vision of him being pushed around in a wheelchair covered in bandages from head to foot with holes cut for his eyes and mouth.

It's not funny and I shouldn't mock but, even if I squeeze my eyes tight shut, the image will not go away!

And I respectfully disagree. We should be mocking him. When a man announces something this indefesibly stupid it's the obligation of the community to share their wisdom with him... by mocking. If enough people send this guy Stay Puft dolls it's possible (unlikely, but possible) he'll learn something from the experience and not flame out on us.

The guy saying he has thousands of people ready to die...? That really isn't a very smart promise.

A U.S. soldier once told Gen. Patton he was ready to die for his country. Not sure if Patton slapped that one or not, but he did correct the young fellow. He told that soldier America would not appreciate his wasting it's resources, that we expect more from our soldiers. Patton told him "the object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his."

The general would have smiled wickedly at the guy in that picture and would have promised to accommodate. "Just have them line up over there..." Kind of feel the same way about this flaming idiot announcing he is ready to die for his... well, whatever it is he thinks his self immolation will accomplish.

Unlike this grandstanding idiot, there was a Texas pastor who actully did it, set himself on fire, a year ago. for a much better reason. Who heard of him?

We do not know if this pastor will actually do it or not, but according your article Rev. Moore was trying to 'grandstand'.

Moore was trying to send a message with his dramatic act -- both to the United Methodist Church and to the country at large. "Reverend Moore thought this was going to be a whole lot bigger of a deal than it turned out to be," Hood told HuffPost. "He expected it to make national news."

Now I suggest we treat both pastors as though the depth of their passion, and the sincerity of their religious and theological stance is equally felt. It is either a tragic loss, that these men feel they have only this option left in the face of events, or a great statement of the glory of their conviction that they are willing to die, to burn for their beliefs. But one is not a clown and the other a martyr. It sure is not a 'good riddance' if a socially conservative anti- gay marriage cleric dies by self immolation. It is also not a joke. its incredibly sad. This is a desperate act contemplated, just as Moore's was, and desperation in the human spirit is not a topic for cavalier speculation. Can't we pause and wonder what good this pastor may have done, and could still do or does his politics so blind us, that we see his entire service to others through that prism.

Geez guys.
