Me too. Human beings have incredible herd instincts when driving that simply can't be duplicated no matter how much computer power one throws at it. Last serious thing I heard about self-driving was the experts bemoaning computer limits and trying to contemplate what kind of logical program could possibly replicate the minds ability to recognize a cat walking even though all you can see are the ears. When you think about it, the human mind is really extraordinary.

And then if you look up traffic fatality rates on the DOT website (fatalities are the only real consistent statistics available due to different jurisdictional reporting methods that might report a concussion in one state but not another. Fatalities are easy- there's either a corpse or there isn't) you'll find that the traffic fatality rate on US roads is about 1.7 per 100 million miles. Yes, that's correct- 100 million miles. Reversed that means that one would have to go through roughly 100-200 lifetimes of driving before there was a significant chance of dying in a car accident. And that includes every idiot driver you've ever been angry at while driving to work.

I'm seeing lots of reports these days of self-driving test bucks running over dummies (and the occasional live person). Here in the DC area there are commercials by folks begging Congress to shut testing down since it sucks so much. The ad's complete with footage of kid sized test dummies getting mowed down.

The fortunate thing about it all is that it won't happen. Good for us.

I'm originally from Michigan. The only Governor stupider than Witless was Granholm. Great bunch they have there in the Biden cabinet. Not a half second of real world experience in anything to be found there.

    A look behind the claims:
Charging Electric Cars Like “Spilling Liters Of Petrol”…(Hidden) Losses During Charging Are Huge
    By P Gosselin on 16. August 2022

    Green technology debacle
“Hidden gas guzzlers”…The wonders of electric cars are turning out to be pie-in-the-sky fantasies.

Massive energy losses from generation, to transmission, to charging and during battery storage are turning electric mobility into a cost nightmare.

E-car drivers are in for a cost shock

“E-cars lose massive amounts of power during charging,” reports the online 24hamburg-de here, citing results of tests conducted on a variety of electric cars of different price classes and sizes by Germany’s ADAC automobile association.

This makes electric cars even more expensive, and less affordable, than previously thought.

The ADAC’s results show, “electricity consumption when charging electric cars is significantly higher than indicated on the consumption displays.”

Manufacturers forgot to tell e-car buyers that lots of energy – about 10% – in fact gets lost during charging and battery storage.

    Wasting huge amounts of energy

“The result is devastating,” reports 24hamburg.de.

“With a gasoline-powered car, that would be like spilling a few liters when refueling,” says the ADAC. . . .

Well, today CA is a major power grid issue due to high heats. Imagine if EV's were trying to be charged????

I'm imagining using that as an excuse to call in to work. "Hey boss, haven't been able to charge my car since Thursday. So I'll be out until this Wednesday at least."

Yup. As a person who owns an EV, they are not cheap. And I wouldn't take it on any kind of a long haul. But, if you own a garage, a second gas car and are using it to do all of your motoring around the city (which is 99 percent of our driving) then they are value!

Fun, cool and futuristic rides. You push a button and things just light up! The car is on. No noise, no vibrations...it's neat. I like that.

But this is not a cheap thing to buy. And not everyone should buy one. And I didn't buy ours because I was trying to save the world. I bought it because I can avoid getting taxed on gas, because **** gas prices and their arbitrary system in how much they want to **** us on any given day. Because our lifestyle and financies provide us the privledge to do so.

Yup. Like many people we have two cars with different missions: one local runabout and one highway cruiser.

Hurricane Ian reveals another problem with electric vehicles: They explode after hurricanes
    By Monica Showalter

    Excerpt:

Joe Biden and all his minions have allowed gas prices to go sky high in a fanatic quest to force Americans into electric vehicles.

One problem: They tend to explode after hurricanes.

That's what Fox News found, citing warnings from local authorities about this latest health hazard from the purveyors of those who vow to make America "go green":
