the only absurdity is thinking that a ban on law abiding citizens owning guns will disarm those who own guns contrary to the ban on criminals owning them.

 

Under 18 USC 922, those with felonies, those under indictment, etc cannot legally own guns. Yet 80% of the murders-or more-are committed by those who were banned from possessing guns prior to their act of killing. Does anyone actually believe that a law that bans currently lawful owners from owning firearms will disarm felons?

well here is the issue

we all know that criminals already own firearms despite felony laws against them doing that. So if you pass a law banning all private firearms, then criminals will continue to own them and those who follow the law will be disarmed. It is obvious that will mean a society where only the government and criminals are armed. Most rational people oppose such a scenario
