Some scientists speculate that the Universe began with 'the BIG BANG' (an extremely complex event to say the least) that originated in one single uber-super dense point and that that was followed by INFLATION. (the little Universe's expansion into the unknown void). Akin to a balloon being inflated. As it expands outward, the objects contained in the Universe gets further and further away from each other. But there is a 'weak force', gravity, that somehow manages to keep everything from flying about willy-nilly. And that, at some point in time, trillions of years from now, gravity will reach it's limits and reverse itself. Thus INFLATION will have run it's course stop inflating and reverse it's course. Universe will enter a phase that I'll call CONTRACTION. CONTRACTION will last approximately as long as INFLATION the end result being all matter, energy and whatever is out there that we have yet to discover will compress back into a tiny point. (Of course, this is a very loose interpretation) After some time passes, or what passes for time passes because time itself will cease to exist...again. The process will begin over ad infintum. I call this 'the BIG THROB THEORY'. Providing that the BIG THROB THEORY is accurate (the concept, not the details) Do you suppose that what has occurred in this cycle of the throb will reoccur in the next cycles of the throb and has occurred in the previous cycles? In other words, are we destined to do this all over again? Have we done everything, exactly the same before? Or is each throb cycle a tad different than all other throbs?
A collapsing Universe has already been considered. Look up "Big Crunch." With results from experimentation, the current view today is that the Universe is expanding and that expansion is accelerating. At the current rate the Universe is expected to continue expanding forever.
yeah the crunch hypothesis was d.o.a once the expantion/acceleration was confirmed...which fits the multiverse hypothesis, new universes continually popping into existence as others wink out...
Now here's the thing: Dark Energy is responsible for the accelerated expansion of the Universe. Until about 5 billion years ago things were slowing down. Metric expansion of space
Googled it, couldn't find it and it's not on Xfinity's On Demand, in any category. If you got a 'big throb' at 1AM at a Cinemax. It must have been something else. Maybe Obama passed by or sumthin'
This is called the Pulsating Universe Theory. It is old news and one of the three possibilities the ancients surmised. But the evidence is now that everything in the Universe is speeding up. Galaxies are moving away from each other faster and faster, as the Cosmos expands. This sort of destroys the Pulsation Universe Theory.
