Dominion voting systems is suing Fox News for, in its words, giving life to a false story that Dominion had riggged its machines to switch Trump votes to Biden. It always seemed ridiculous on its face, but a jury, not we, will decide whether is FOX is liable. I don't care either way. The to-me-confusing latest update is that Fox's most prominent stars, including Ingraham, Hannity, and Carlson, knew and said privately, in real time, that the claims by Trump and his attorneys were ridiculous, but allowed them to be promoted anyway. The ostensible reason for this, the claim goes, was that the network knew it would lose MAGA viewers if it scoffed at team Trump’s claims about rigged machines. And there is some evidence tending to support this part of the claim. What I don't get is why anyone at Fox would knowingly help Trump tell an easily falsifiable lie (and they did not all of them do so, especially Chris Stirewalt, Neil Cavuto, and Jacqui Heinrich) and thereby get egg on their face. https://www.salon.com/2023/02/17/fo...s-carlson-and-hannity-tried-to-get-her-fired/ https://www.npr.org/2023/02/16/1157558299/fox-news-stars-false-claims-trump-election-2020 The knee jerk response to the question by CNN and others is already out there: Fox wanted to keep MAGA Republicans tuned in and not switching to the more credulous NewsMax. So they knowingly perpethe lie. "Ratings, baby, duh!" I get that crude point. In the short term, it makes sense. But Fox, it seems to me, stood to lose more viewers over the long term as the obvious truth -- that Dominion did NOT conspire with team Biden -- became more and more manifest. A lot of liberals watch Fox. Why purposefully alienate them if you KNOW they will find out that you never believed Trump's claim about Dominion in the first place? Tucker Carlson is quoted saying that reporting any skepticism of Trump's ridiculous claim would hurt the brand. He indeed called for Jacqui Heinrich to be fired. But the same Tucker Carlson went toe to toe with attorney Sidney Powell, live on air, over this same claim of machine tampering. "WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE??" Carlson demanded, as one Republican judge after the other threw out the lawsuits team Trump had been filing to "stop the steal." There is something incongruous going on; either that, or the new claims that Fox was trying to suppress skepticism are based on cherry picked and out of context fragments of a few text messages. It is also apparent that supporters of Dominion in the media simply hate Fox because it has higher ratings and they want those liberal viewers to switch over to CNN. "Ratings, baby."
~ The attorneys will make some easy money here. Other than that — just another ridiculous $hitt-Show .
It may all come down to what was specifically said. If it was "There are reports of fraud by Dominion" they are fine as they are reporting on others' statements. If it was, "Dominion clearly rigged the election", it is bad for the network. In between there is a whole lot of gray area.
You know something... we don't hear that term "gray area" much any more. We are in a black and white world.
The private emails in which Fox entertainers confirmed that they knew Trump's lies were lies should play well to a jury. April 4, 2023 ...Fox has argued that its coverage was protected by the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment because election fraud claims were inherently newsworthy, and its hosts and guests were entitled to express their opinions. But on Friday, Judge Eric Davis rejected much of Fox's defense, and said Dominion's case was strong enough to go to a jury. "The evidence developed in this civil proceeding demonstrates that (it) is CRYSTAL clear that none of the statements relating to Dominion about the 2020 election are true," he wrote. Fox faces a similar lawsuit by another voting technology company, Smartmatic, which is seeking $2.7 billion in damages. None of the statements about Russian collusion were true or that Hunter's laptop was Russian disinformation. The statements they are trying to claim were defamatory came form GUEST, go and sue them. FOX was just the platform allowing for both sides to present their case.
Your attempted diversion ignores the reality that I never claimed that Trump colluded with the Russians who conspired to help him and hurt Clinton in the 2016 election (as confirmed by the FBI, NSA, CIA, and two Republican-run Senate investigative committees.) The mater was investigated by a Republican Special Counsel, Robert Mueller, appointed by a Republican Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein, under the Republican Trump regime. (Neither did I ever claim that the tales concerning Citizen Biden's computer were Russian disinformation.) It was Trump adviser Steve Bannon who was reported to have commented regarding the propriety of Trump campaign officials secretly meeting with Putin's agents: "The three senior guys in the campaign thought it was a good idea to meet with a foreign government inside Trump Tower in the conference room on the 25th floor – with no lawyers. They didn't have any lawyers... Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad sh¡t, and I happen to think it's all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately." Rupert Murdoch admits Fox News hosts endorsed election lies
ROFLMAO.......MY diversion.....now you go to the Trump Tower meeting where the Trump people told the Fusion/GPS fake Russian to take a hike and if she had any dirt on Clinton to take it to the FBI??? There was NO Trump campaign collusion with Russia not Russian influence on the election. The only dealing with Russia was the Clinton campaign, the only one pushing Russian dirt was Hillary Clinton.
This is definitely worth a watch Joy Reid interviews the Australian ex Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull about that piece of human excrement known as Rupert Murdoch.
