This is one of those instances when the narrative the prosecution has put forth is the only one with any credibility. The 40K foot view is this all transpired exactly as the evidence and all the witnesses say it did. But as you say, it'll only take one moron to blow the whole thing up.

Aileen Cannon Threatens To Sanction MAL Prosecutors

In the up-is-down world of the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case, prosecutors attempted to stanch Donald Trump’s vitriolic attacks on federal law enforcement – the kind of thing criminal defendants would not typically be allowed to engage in while on pre-trial release – and wound up themselves threatened with sanctions by the judge.

As Morning Memo recounted yesterday, the move by prosecutors to modify the terms of Trump’s pre-trial release came late Friday before the Memorial Day weekend and prompted a heated response from Trump.

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon weighed in Monday, denying the prosecution motion, chastising them for playing loose with the local court rules, and threatening to impose sanctions on them in the future. One small bright spot, if you can call it that, is that she didn’t accede to Trump’s request to sanction the prosecution team immediately. Cannon’s denial was without prejudice, meaning prosecutors can refile their motion.

Cannon insisted that prosecutors had not sufficiently conferred with the defense team before filing and ordered that all future filings contain a statement of no more than 200 words by the opposing side of its position.

In a normal case, I’d applaud a judge keeping a tight leash on the prosecution team. But we’re in such uncharted territory here that you can’t attribute this to i-dotting or t-crossing by Cannon. Given any chance to chide the prosecution, she takes it. Given deplorable behavior by Trump that would normally never fly, she finds herself mute again and again.

Aileen does not like that Smith's team has humiliated her. Any pretense to impartiality went out the window long ago. She needs to be removed.

Why Trump’s team thinks he can survive any verdict
The former president’s advisers and allies plan to situate any outcome within the same grievance narrative he’s been cultivating for years.
    https://www.politico.com/news/2024/05/30/trump-verdict-campaign-spin-00160506

Donald Trump’s pollsters have been tracking the impact of his indictments throughout his first trial and, moving to get ahead of events, are arguing that regardless of the verdict in the New York hush-money case, they can spin it in his favor.

In the campaign’s internal polling, two-thirds of respondents say politics played a role in his criminal indictments.

That is at odds with public polling, which has found that somewhere between a plurality and a majority of Americans believe the case has been handled fairly, with a sharp partisan split. Some 60 percent of voters have said they think the charges are very or somewhat serious. Even 6 percent of Trump voters say they would be less likely to back him if convicted.

Like I said yesterday, if he is convicted he will whine about the system being unfair to him. If he is acquitted he will whine about the system being unfair to him. It's all the same to The Following.

In Trumpworld there is no possibility of him being treated fairly. No matter what, they have been brainwashed in to believing in the fundamental corruption of the system. Just the way Trump wants them to think.

TRUMP GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS IN HUSH-MONEY CASE

Donald J. Trump, the former president and presumptive 2024 Republican nominee, was convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in a case stemming from a payment that silenced a porn star.

Former President Donald Trump has at least one group of supporters he won’t have to worry about losing even after he was found guilty in his New York criminal hush money trial: Republican megadonors.

“I haven’t heard anybody who gives a s---,” said New York businessman and Republican donor Andy Sabin, when asked whether major GOP contributors he knows care about the verdict in Trump’s trial.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/30/trumps-republican-megadonors-shrug-off-his-guilty-verdict.html

And there you have it. They don't give a sh** if Don is a rapist, a felon, an orchestrator of a coup, a tax cheat, a thief of charitable donations, a multiple adulterer, an incompetent buffoon, a bigot, who consorts with criminals.

"I obviously disagree with this verdict as do many others," Turley tweeted, saying that he believes that the case will be reversed "eventually" either at the state or federal level. "However," the George Washington University Law School professor added, "this was the worst expectation for a trial in Manhattan. I am saddened by the result more for the New York legal system than the former president. I had hoped that the jurors might redeem the integrity of a system that has been used for political purposes."

It shows that our "Justice" system can be hotwired by some corrupt Democrats into a political weapon.

"It was one of the most bizarre moments I've had in a courtroom..."

Anyone who thinks these folks can be reasoned with, compromised with, worked with, is on notice. It's time to put on the legal and political brass knuckles and sink punches.

And clearly we are under no obligation to listen to the sickening moralizing of those that supported this thrill kill in a canned hunt for political purposes.

Multiple Trump Witnesses Have Received Significant Financial Benefits From His Businesses, Campaign

Nine witnesses in the criminal cases against former President Donald Trump have received significant financial benefits, including large raises from his campaign, severance packages, new jobs, and a grant of shares and cash from Trump’s media company.

The benefits have flowed from Trump’s businesses and campaign committees, according to a ProPublica analysis of public disclosures, court records and securities filings. One campaign aide had his average monthly pay double, from $26,000 to $53,500. Another employee got a $2 million severance package barring him from voluntarily cooperating with law enforcement. And one of the campaign’s top officials had her daughter hired onto the campaign staff, where she is now the fourth-highest-paid employee.

These pay increases and other benefits often came at delicate moments in the legal proceedings against Trump. One aide who was given a plum position on the board of Trump’s social media company, for example, got the seat after he was subpoenaed but before he testified.

3 Organizers Of Trump Fake Elex Plot—Including Chesebro—Charged In Wisconsin

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul unveiled charges on Tuesday against three people who helped devise and implement the 2020 fake electors scheme, a complaint first obtained by TPM shows.

Attorney Ken Chesebro, former state judge Jim Troupis, and GOP operative Mike Roman were each charged with one count of entering into a conspiracy to commit forgery.

An attorney for Chesebro declined to comment to TPM. Roman and Troupis did not immediately return requests for comment.

Per a copy of the complaint obtained by TPM, prosecutors cast the three defendants as trying to use the alleged forgery of Wisconsin’s electoral college votes as a means to overthrow the results of the 2020 election. That, the complaint says, was done in concert with senior, unnamed Trump campaign officials.

Prosecutors cited in the complaint text messages and other records that Chesebro provided while cooperating with state prosecutors as part of the case.

It would appear the unraveling will go on for some time.

As I am fond of saying, imagine my surprise. After all, it's Georgia.

Appeals court halts Trump’s Georgia case during appeal of order allowing Willis to stay on case

ATLANTA (AP) — An appeals court has halted the Georgia election interference case against former President Donald Trump and others while it reviews the lower court judge’s ruling allowing Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to remain on the case.

The Georgia Court of Appeals’ order on Wednesday prevents Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee from moving forward with pretrial motions as he had planned while the appeal is pending. While it was already unlikely that the case would go to trial before the November general election, when Trump is expected to be the Republican nominee for president, this makes that even more certain.

The appeals court on Monday docketed the appeals filed by Trump and eight others and said that “if oral argument is requested and granted” it is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 4. The court will then have until mid-March to rule, and the losing side will be able to appeal to the Georgia Supreme Court.

This is on those who will stop at nothing to protect Trump from facing prosecution in a highly partisan, pro-Trump state. I mean he's innocent right? So what's the problem? That call to Raffensberger was perfect, right? Nothing to see there. Nothing to see even though 4 co-defendents have pled guilty to the crimes they committed on Trump's behalf.

Putin says America is ‘burning from the inside’ and U.S. courts are being used by Trump’s rivals

Russian President Vladimir Putin lambasted the U.S. judicial system, saying it was being used by former U.S. leader Donald Trump’s political enemies to damage the Republican presidential nominee.

“They [the U.S.] are burning themselves from the inside, their state, their political system,” Putin told media editors at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Wednesday.

“It is obvious all over the world that the prosecution of Trump, especially in court on charges that were formed on the basis of events that happened years ago, without direct proof, is simply using the judicial system in an internal political struggle,” he said, in comments translated by Reuters.

Normally, having the leader of a foreign adversary against which we are involved in a proxy war in your corner would not be something to brag about. But not in the POT.

Judge orders Steve Bannon to report to prison on July 1 for contempt of Congress sentence

WASHINGTON — A federal judge on Thursday ordered former Trump adviser Steve Bannon to report to prison on July 1 to begin a four-month prison sentence for defying subpoenas from the Jan. 6 Committee after a higher court rejected his appeal.

Bannon was found guilty on two counts of contempt of Congress in July 2022 for defying the committee’s subpoenas, but his sentence had been put on hold while he appealed the case. U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols said Thursday he did not believe that the “original basis” for his stay of the imposition of Bannon's sentence existed any longer after an appeals court upheld Bannon's conviction. Bannon could still appeal Nichol’s ruling that he must report to prison.

Bannon was sentenced more than a year and a half ago, in October 2022, to four months behind bars, the same sentence currently being served by former Trump adviser Peter Navarro, who also refused to comply with a Jan. 6 Committee subpoena.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/ju...steve-bannon-begin-prison-sentence-rcna155209

Consider how loudly RWM would be screaming if Biden pardoned his former chief of staff for the crime he committed. Then that same criminal went on to defy a congressional subpoena.

BTW, Joe has stated he will not pardon Hunter if he is convicted.

Trump Claims He Has Every Right To Prosecute His Enemies

‘I Would Have Every Right To Go After Them’

Surveying the news of the past 24 hours, we’re presented with a particularly sobering reflection of our current state of affairs. I will lay it out brick by brick in the items below, but first I want to circle back to Donald Trump’s appearance two nights ago on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program.

Hannity asked a leading question, clearly trying to throw Trump a softball that will let him deny his intention to use the office of the presidency to exact retribution against his political foes – even though Trump has spent many months now promising to do precisely that.

At first, Trump took the easy swing and suggested that he won’t perpetuate what he implies is a cycle of retribution he’s already been victimized by. But then he launched into an extended justification of doing exactly what he had just disclaimed and asserting that he has “every right to go after them”:

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/morning-memo/trump-claims-he-has-every-right-to-prosecute-his-enemies

This could be one of the better cons he's invented in a while. Setting up a scenario by which should he be re-elected he can claim righteousness and get credit for going after his enemies or not. If he goes after them he'll say he's justified. If he doesn't he'll say he is showing great restraint. The Following will love him either way. The guy is a genius at malevolence.

New York’s top court dismisses Trump’s appeal of gag order in hush money case

Judge in Trump Documents Case Rejected Suggestions to Step Aside

Shortly after Judge Aileen M. Cannon drew the assignment in June 2023 to oversee former President Donald J. Trump’s classified documents case, two more experienced colleagues on the federal bench in Florida urged her to pass it up and hand it off to another jurist, according to two people briefed on the conversations.

The judges who approached Judge Cannon — including the chief judge in the Southern District of Florida, Cecilia M. Altonaga — each asked her to consider whether it would be better if she were to decline the high-profile case, allowing it to go to another judge, the two people said.

But Judge Cannon, who was appointed by Mr. Trump, wanted to keep the case and refused the judges’ entreaties. Her assignment drew attention because she has scant trial experience and had previously shown unusual favor to Mr. Trump by intervening in a way that helped him in the criminal investigation that led to his indictment, only to be reversed in a sharply critical rebuke by a conservative appeals court panel.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/20/us/politics/aileen-cannon-trump-classified-documents.html

Duh. Of course she wanted the case. What a great chance to express her gratitude to the convicted felon otherwise known as the Orange Menace.

Judge questions Trump lawyers, prosecutors about Jack Smith appointment

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Former president Donald Trump’s attorneys argued in federal court here Friday that the classified document case against him should be dismissed because the top prosecutor in the case was improperly appointed.

The long-shot argument is based on a legal premise pushed in some conservative circles that the Senate should have approved Attorney General Merrick Garland’s appointment of special counsel Jack Smith, who is overseeing the federal investigations against Trump.

Smith’s team called that argument “unsound” and said Garland has clear authority to appoint lawyers to fulfill Justice Department functions. Similar challenges to other recent special counsels, including Robert S. Mueller III, have been rejected in court.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati.../21/trump-cannon-jack-smith-pretrial-hearing/

If we have learned anything about conservative judges it's they give no regard to sound legal precedent if going against it fits their ideological desires.

Judge dismisses charges in Nevada fake electors case over venue question

A Nevada state court judge dismissed a criminal indictment Friday against six Republicans accused of submitting certificates to Congress falsely declaring Donald Trump the winner of the state’s 2020 presidential election, potentially killing the case with a ruling that state prosecutors chose the wrong venue to file the case.

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford stood in a Las Vegas courtroom a moment after Clark County District Court Judge Mary Kay Holthus delivered her ruling, declaring that he would take the case directly to the state Supreme Court.

Special counsel probed Trump Mar-a-Lago trip that aides 'kept quiet' weeks before FBI search: Sources

A trip to Mar-a-Lago taken by former President Donald Trump that aides allegedly "kept quiet" just weeks before FBI agents searched the property for classified materials in his possession raised suspicions among special counsel Jack Smith's team as a potential additional effort to obstruct the government's classified documents investigation, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News.

The previously unreported visit, which allegedly took place July 10-12 in the summer of 2022, was raised in several interviews with witnesses, sources familiar with the matter said, as investigators sought to determine whether it was part of Trump's broader alleged effort to withhold the documents after receiving a subpoena demanding their return.

At least one witness who worked closely with the former president recalled being told at the time of the trip that Trump was there "checking on the boxes," according to sources familiar with what the witness told investigators.

Because we know Don is a law abiding citizen who would never do anything like refuse to comply with a subpoena or ignore a gag order or orchestrate a coup I think he should get the benefit of the doubt.

CREW files bribery complaint against Trump over oil industry donations

The watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has filed a criminal bribery complaint urging the Justice Department to investigate former President Trump’s solicitation of campaign donations from fossil fuel executives.

The former president met with oil industry executives in April and asked for $1 billion in campaign contributions, The Hill reported last month.
