The Australian government has made millions of dollars for corona fines. A pregnant woman was arrested for being against the lockdowns. A different woman got tazed for refusing to wear a mask. I could go on, but you get the picture. These lockdowns are a gift to authoritarians everywhere. Fear is the most efficient way to rule the populace. r/LockdownSkepticism and r/NoNewNormal are just two of the many subreddits and internet forums discussing the lockdowns and mask mandates. As time goes on, more and more people are opposing these authoritarian policies, and being sent to prison because of it. Sent to prison for wrongthink. How anyone could support this is beyond my understanding. And now we have Biden saying he'd extend the shut down until a vaccine appears, that's absurd! The increasing civil unrest due to lockdowns and mask mandates is making for a very tense situation all across the western world.
and we now hear that the virus can remain active on some surfaces for 28 days. It sure seems like masking up isn't the answer, but good hygiene of washing hands is
Can you provide us some examples of people going to prison for their thoughts on lockdowns, instead of for their actions?
Which is the wrong answer. The right answer is that both are important. Along with other mitigation measures.
uh huh so lock down mask up social distance and finally cleanliness why mask up if you are 10 feet away? Why lock down if you clean surfaces and are 10 feet away? why impose penalties for not masking up? why believe that we have control over a virus? we don't
Yes these are all important, although lock downs, at least on a widespread level, are probably only going to be used during dire circumstances, if even then. The mood of the people right now and the fatigue of having to deal with the consequences of a highly contagious virus may make a lock down bring more harm than good, unless it's being used because medical resources are at a tipping point. If or when that happens, folks will just have to suck it up I guess. But we can stave off that need by adhering to the things you listed above, if we can get the adult children to quit the tantrums about why you shouldn't have to wear a mask or follow other safety guidelines. Because people are not robots who are programmed to maintain a consistent or minimum distance. Nor do we control air currents which can carry water vapor. I think a good rule to go by is this. If you're close enough to hear a person talking in a normal voice(assuming you have average hearing), put your mask on. Because surface cleaning is not happening consistently everywhere. And we all know how folks feel about being told safety guidelines. Their inner 3rd grader takes over. For the same reason we impose penalties for other actions that put people at risk. Speeding tickets? Discharging firearms in public places? Even building construction codes. These are all things that we regulate because they put people at risk. And even more than that, we all accept it. I've never heard someone bitching and moaning about having to drive on the right side of the road and that the government shouldn't get to dictate what side of the road they drive on. We don't have to control the virus, only it's spread. And we can, through the methods that have been proven to work over the past 8 months.
I've never read the Australian Constitution if there is one. But regarding mask mandates here in the US, and the rights to assembly and travel and association with others, might you provide any places in the US Constitution that empower the government to implement such things? If you are Australian, there is no need to engage. The Penal Colony Down Under lives up to its heritage.
Nope, I cannot. I'm not a constitutional scholar. And it wouldn't change the necessity of the actions in the first place.
What it would change is your perception of the legality of the measures. I appreciate your candor in acknowledging your lack of knowledge regarding constitutional legal principles, but if you did have such knowledge, you too would understand that the mask mandates and lockdown measures have been utterly illegal, as the federal judge ruled a few weeks ago. More, the measures taken were not necessary. All they accomplished was bad.
According to Trump fans, the lockdowns were supposedly to keep hospitals from being overwhelmed. Well guess what...they are becoming overwhelmed. What now?
That's my question, I had no idea that the hospital business was one that got the most protections and the most sway in public policy, if I were a lobbyist I'd go after that contract.
It's got nothing to do with business and everything to do with the fact that hospitals in several states are at 100% capacity. During a deadly pandemic Do you understand what that means?
Rather than "Hyperbole", there will be the USA Republican "solutions" that these growing numbers of people from COVID and othe of excess cases of illness simply die. Problem solved.
A lot of sheep in this thread didn't even watch the video. Most prominently, a pregnant woman was arrested for anti-lockdown facebook posts in Australia. Get out of your bubble you morons.
I watched the video you provided and agree that things like arresting someone for an anti-lockdown Facebook post is inexcusable. Maybe it's because of where I live, (Cent. VA) but other than restaurants, funerals ("large gatherings") and Retirement Communities, I haven't noticed much else that has suffered terribly from "lockdown". Other people's experiences may be significantly different since I'm self employed / semi-retired and live in a rural area but I don't feel like wearing a mask, maintaining some sort of social distance & washing my hands more frequently is the equivalent to life in a Stalinesque hell hole. The virus is an ugly reality but there has to be some sort of middle ground between cowering in your basement in a Haz-Mat suit via mandate and the freedom to go French Kissing random strangers on the subway. As with most unpleasant situations, the extremists on both sides are simply making a very real dilemma worse.
Not only do they not understand, they will run away screaming if they get close to understanding. Cult...
Its so nice your neighborhood is so peaceful, but maybe it might be illuminating to visit outside some ICUs as people wait even weeks hear if their parent or their husband is dead or getting better. And if the patient lives, deal with the sometime long-term recovery, enormous bills and sometimes permanant disability or mind damage from this disease. This is a reality millions of people have dealt with. The "two-sides" of this story doesn't exist. There is NO ONE who is cowerring in their own basement in a haz-mat suit. But their LOTS of people face kissing, hugging cheek-to-cheek, not washing hands and simply doing NOTHING to even slightly reduce and threaten with revolution for even minor public care! The most basic middle-ground is already in place to wear a mask IN PUBLIC ONLY (do whatever you want at home) and wash your hands now and then. But somehow, most Republicans and Trumpies and Trump find this kind basic hygiene is "too much and destroying America"!
The Republican Way! If regular people and the poor cannot afford to go to the hospital, the hospitals won't be overwhelmed! Ta Dah! Trump and the Republicans solve USA'S healthcare problem!
1: You wear a mask to protect others. 2: The lockdowns are effective just so long as people recognise their duty to their fellow citizens. 3: Where citizens do NOT recognise their duties, the police and health authorities have very wide powers to enforce lockdowns / quarantines and so they should. The US's and Australia's problems (among many other nations) stem from people forgetting that their rights come with responsibilities.
Then they will die which, I suppose, is fine as long as 'they' are not you or your loved ones / friends.
