Where'd you get the idea that their values come from "atheism"?

if I'd had that idea, it of got it the same place you got yours; out of thin air.

the presentation is that "god" as in the xian version of what a god might be,
is the source of morality, and unless people is xians, why they will backslide*
    into uncivil and immoral behaviour.

i think Chinese and Japanese are more spiritual than Amerians.
    More civilized.

Very few young Asians of my acquaintance are any kind of "religious'.

Religion as such is kinda dumb, really. Atheism is merely recognizing that.
Belief in astrology is dumb too.

Values dont come from atheism or a-astrologism. They dont come from religion either, not in the sense that some "god' said hey hey do and dont do or else. THAT is dumb.

Values come from the society, the civilization. It is up to the individual to come to terms with those values.

    * first time i heard the word "backside" it gave me this funny image of persons skidding about on their backs.

As I may believe? The word has no scientific meaning at all, it simply means whatever some creationist wants it to mean.

You figure noah only had to gather two bugs and he has all the insectss covered? Seriously, how is that supposed to work?

may as well get only two mammals, whatever type. Two dogs maybe. Because there are no Marsupials in the old world.
to say that placental and marsupial mammals are the same "kind" is getting pretty silly.

They study the formation of ice layers, yeat by year, to compare what is seen there with what they find elsewhere.

(similarly, you can find fossil bones that show the cracking and susrface checking that happens when a bone lies on the surface of the ground for a time. Forensics people and paleontologists both have of course put bones on the ground and studied how they dedteriortae over time. You dig up a bone from 20 million years ago that shows it was on the surface for a year before burial, you can tell that looking at it)

Way off on the ice dating?
No. Picture this: you do a core, and pull it up. You can see the layers.
You can count them. One two three. Go back to AD 79, get out your microscope and your lab kit. Here is the ash from Vesusvias, and the sulphuric acid. Take some of the pollen etc, and do a radiocarbon date.
    Same answer.

That is just one of the many ways that it can be cross checked for accuracy.

They run an e-log (electronic) along with the visual count. Each year, the acidity is different, so the condictivity is different. And, of course, you can also do a radiocarbon date back to 60,000 years or so.

They arent just guessing they are not failing to verify. The ice really is that old.

There is a line between attempting to be 'noble' and accepting all scripture 'literally' in honoring the authority of the scriptures; and, being a truth seeker, open to 'all truths' no matter what the consequences, and giving different perspective to the scriptures---but still acknowledging the consistency of the Spirit of 'inspiration' and those messages behind them. Not being 'intellectually honest' about the total of scripture drives ppl away from the Gospel of Jesus Christ and makes it unprofitable.

The premise of 'one must believe all of it as valid, else then NONE of it is valid' is a false premise.

I look for the 'spiritual nuggets of truth' in the scriptures, using the harmony of the total as from cover to cover?

For I dont look at the personalities of the men who wrote them, but the 'inspiration' in their msgs and the stories with morals and teaching particular truths.

I see the message in the Bible, looking from cover-to-cover as: fallen man (from the ideal), cannot save himself from himself, needed a Savior on his behalf, Who was prepared from the 'foundations of the world' by a God & Father Who knew man's free-will frailties, and then the prophets who pointed to the coming of the Savior (another 'man' who could identify with those He was to bring salvation), and that Man came with the Word of God and as an obedient servant, obedient to dying on a cross with humiliation, and then did resurrect being the 1st of many Sons, leaving behind the Holy Spirit as the comforter & teacher for His Church.....that's the 'digest' of the harmony of the scriptures en total, w/o focusing of allegories or perceived discrepancies in individual scriptures.

This is the way I have read it & studied it, and the whole makes sense to me....'another' fallen & imperfect man.

Iread it much the same way, tho i see those as accumulated folk wisdom, and do not attach any supernatural to it.
